Perhaps it's because I'm jaded, but Paprika wasn't nearly as weird as I thought it would be. Not that it wasn't twisted (the anime-agnostic person with whom I was watching required an explanation afterwards), but once all the odd dream-states are taken out, the narrative becomes very linear and simple. It's still entertaining enough, and the art is pretty, if not particularly original (unlike, say, Tokyo Godfathers, a preview of which was on the DVD). The English localization could have used some work, though.

Some comments on Macross Frontier: 25 years of modernization still doesn't make My Boyfriend is a Pilot any better. Cleverly splitting Minmei into two characters can't hide the fact that she is still a bimbo. Giving Veritechs energy swords takes away one of their best differentiators from other mecha. Cutting integral character introduction/development to show another minute of holographic bikinis isn't the best way to repackage the first episode.
I'm still enjoying it, though. There's very little that go wrong with space opera + GIANT ROBOTS.

The title alone is another reason to like the The Bad Astronomer. There's some really good ones in the comments, too.
