I read The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System 1 and had a good time aside from the rough start/infodump and occasional inelegant translation issue. I just read #2 and it is a ride. I'm still facing a lot more headaches and tiredness than usual. It doesn't help that the high winds have been making it feel like it's in the 20s Fahrenheit. The temperature killed any impulse toward going into Manhattan to watch Saks Fifth Avenue unveil its Fifth Avenue window displays in the evening.

I couldn't really get into reading The Conductors by Nicole Glover for an unusual reason: its paperback cover felt weirdly gritty and very unpleasant for me to hold. The texture just about made my skin crawl, making it impossible to get past that sensation to pay attention to the text. I'd never encountered this before. While the Stephen A Schwarzman building with the lions, Patience and Fortitude, out front is the famed NYC library, the more "actual library with lots of books for people to take out and places to hang around" building was nearby on 40th Street and Fifth Avenue. It wasn't pretty but it did its job admirably, until it was closed for renovation.

I really enjoyed A Memory Called Empire so I was excited to read its sequel.

After a somewhat slow start illustrating the Addie's modern life of being forgotten over and over due to her curse and taking what she can from people and places--I got it already, thanks--I found this novel difficult to put down. It can be a bit too self-indulgent at times though.
