In Sum

I watched The Dark Tower recently. It wasn't The Dark Tower, not even close, and it wasn't even good for what it ended up being. The plot managed to be boring and too much about the kid, Idris Elba came off as just perpetually grumpy, and Matthew McConnaughey somehow had zero menace. i took one look at the trailer for the movie and said 'oh fuck nope, i am noping out of this atrocity entirely'. i actually hate the dark tower series so much that when the final book came out i read it, hated it so much that i couldn't remember what it had been about, reread it, and chucked it in the dumpster. anything good out of that whole series was gone before it ended, and i will not go NEAR the movie. ugh, ugh, and triple ugh.

Yeah, I read the last two books in the series out of wanting to see how things ended, not so much out of liking anything anymore. (Part of it was the loss of a character before that, along with everything he brought to the series.) I felt that the one character's "happy ending" in the final book had a ton of flaws in it.

The movie wasn't a good adaptation and wasn't a good movie, so you're missing nothing.

Yeah, I slogged through the never-ending backstory too. There were several points in the series where I felt that someone needed to have a firm talk with Stephen King about editing.

I haven't read Cujo, Pet Semetary, It, or Carrie in at least ten years, maybe more, though I still remember thinking that Carrie was a rather oddly written book.
