In Sum

I watched The Dark Tower recently. It wasn't The Dark Tower, not even close, and it wasn't even good for what it ended up being. The plot managed to be boring and too much about the kid, Idris Elba came off as just perpetually grumpy, and Matthew McConnaughey somehow had zero menace. People really thought they could build a series off this mess ( Read more... )

Serendipitous!
I'm reading the series now. My family tried watching it (one had read it, one had not) and they turned it off ~20min in. The one who read the series was frothing and snarling at how terrible it was and how Roland wasn't Roland. The other was just bored to tears.
I hadn't really planned to read the series (finishing book 4 now) but I watched Gerald's Game after I had read the book and suddenly went "shit, now I'll have to read all the King books that I've seen the movies for to see how badly or well done they were"
From the bits and pieces I saw of the movie (was half paying attention), it was...If someone showed me it, bleeped out all the names, and asked me what the movie was based on, I wouldn't have a guess.
I've enjoyed the series, but somehow with the book I'm currently on (Wizard & Glass, aka Roland's never-ending Susan back-story) is slogging a bit for me. I suppose it has something to do with knowing that it all ends (kinda like Titanic, you know the ending, it's how it all gets there)? Anyway, serendipitous that you mention this.
On my list to read (having seen them): Cujo, Pet Semetary, It, Carrie, ...uhmm more.

Yeah, I slogged through the never-ending backstory too. There were several points in the series where I felt that someone needed to have a firm talk with Stephen King about editing.

I haven't read Cujo, Pet Semetary, It, or Carrie in at least ten years, maybe more, though I still remember thinking that Carrie was a rather oddly written book.
