Power Loss

Oct 24, 2013 23:58

I lost a lot of power to my legs today while out in Manhattan, which is one of the things I fear. If I'm driving, I can take myself home easily just by sitting down and driving with the pedals, but today I was using mass transit. I usually take a 20-block walk after this particular doctor appointment, but today I managed 12 before I had to leave. ( Read more... )

That does sound scary! I hope you find out what caused ti and can avoid it in the future.

Me too, though this wasn't the worst example of this happening to me. I remember one time a while ago when I had to pull myself up the stairs by my arms on the handrail getting out of the subway because my legs lost all strength.

So what does the doctor say about this symptom? This is not a normal thing.

They have no idea why it happens, as usual.

That does sound very frightening. I'm glad you got home all right.

Thanks. Things like this make me go out less often.

fuck, that would scare the shit out of me. I know why my right leg flips out sometimes, nerve damage from when I dislocated it, not knowing would really bug me. Maybe you could get a doctor to try and look it in non connection to the Chiari, perhaps a pinched nerve in your back or something? Whatever it may be, I hope it pisses off and sorts itself out

It does scare me, and it's a major reason why I've become more of a homebody. I'm also sometimes prone to myoclonic jerks, where my legs kick out on their own while I'm lying down in bed.

I saw my neurologist two weeks ago, and I'm pondering if I should call his office about my Thursday power drain. I've gotten out of the habit of telling my doctors everything because I get tired of hearing that they have no clue and/or they've never heard of that before.

you gotta wonder if doctors ever listen to anyone or read the new information that comes out, because so much of this shit I HAVE heard of, and not just from one person but see it regularly on support boards.

My support groups show so many people with exactly the same symptoms and problems I have but when I bring it up to the doctors they look at me like I'm nuts, even doctors that the list resources say are the good ones. One of the neurosurgeons at The Chiari Institute said that this many years after the surgery I should be "cured" by now. I was stunned because there is no "cure," just things that work on the symptoms for some people, and surgery is no guarantee!
