Amy's vegan rice crust pizza

Dec 05, 2006 17:38

Anyone try this? I was so happy to finally find it locally after seeing it last month online that I plunked down the $8 without question. I love most of Ammy's products. My top faves are the roasted veggie pocket and the thai tofu with jasmine rice ( Read more... )

the garlic sauce used to be vegan, but they changed the recipe a few years ago, so it isn't anymore (though I haven't checked recently, they could have changed it again)

Here's the info from the Papa John's website:

Does your garlic sauce contain animal derivatives?
NO. Our garlic sauce contains lactic acid, but this is not classified as an animal derivative because it has been fermented.

I think they must have changed it again, because for awhile it had whey (or something similar that was also def. dairy derived, though I could be misremembering) in it--I'm glad to know I can eat it for sure now!

I've gotten Papa John's before, with just veggies and no cheese (and you can order it like that online, there's an option). It was very disappointing though because they aren't very generous with the toppings - it ended up like pizza sauce on bread with a random pepper or mushroom around.

You might check with local chains, depending on where you live. There are two in my area that deliver and are fantastic with making delicious, topping-laden vegan pizza. There are also a few other sit-down/take-out places that are very veg-friendly.

tofutti pizza is awesome if you can find it! i cover it with italian seasoning and black pepper and then cook it longer at the lower degree option on the box. i get KILLER pizza cravings and this satisfies my high standards, i was a total ninja turtle about pizza before i went vegan.

I like to make pita pizzas a la Sarah Kramer in, I think, The Garden of Vegan

Here's a basic explanation, however.

Get some pita bread - you can make two per batch -

Add pizza sauce, toppings and grate Follow Your Heart mozz. over it, and then broil for 3-5 minutes. CHECK IT AT 4, though, because it can burn in the blink of an eye! I can eat two of these myself. It doesn't cost much; it's ridiculously quick and the cheese melts and is tasty.

For some reason I found the artichoke to be too overpowering for me, which is lame because it looked so good on the box! Hah.
