Crossover antics with Erky~

"Kyonko-chan! It's time to get up!"

Kyonko groaned, pulling the covers over her head and mentally cursing whoever decided that her little brother just had to be her own personal alarm clock. Really, why did he insist on waking her up this early every single day? It wasn't fair to her or ( Read more... )

Erk's eyes flickered open slowly. "Mnuh? What is it, love?"

His headache must have been so bad he couldn't feel it now, because he thought he wasn't in pain but this room didn't look familiar at all.

"Shhh!" she hissed, pressing a hand over his mouth. The last thing she needed was for her parents to catch a boy they didn't know in her bedroom.

"Come on, Kyonko-chan! Breakfast!" her brother cried, having finally stopped banging on the door.

"I'm up! I'm up! Let me get dressed and I'll meet you in the kitchen!" she shouted back before looking nervously back down at Erk.

Erk blinked as his head cleared. Oh, dear. He wasn't hallucinating.

How he'd gotten to Kyonko's world, he didn't want to speculate. Well, he did, but not now. Preferably somewhere he was less likely to get caught.

"Do your parents usually check your room?" he whispered. He was hoping there was some way for him to get out of the house without getting caught.

"No," she said quietly to make sure no one heard as she climbed out of bed, "But you might want to duck into the closet just in case."

She pulled her uniform out of the closet while she continued speaking.

"I can duck back after I leave for school with my brother claiming I forgot one of my workbooks, then give Nagato a call? He'll probably let you stay at his place for a bit while we figure this out."

"KYONKO-CHAAAAN! MOM MADE PANCAKES!" came her brother's voice and a renewed banging on the door.

"I'm coming!" she shouted in exasperation as she pulled off and threw aside the oversized shirt she'd worn to bed and began to change. She'd done this so many times in front of Erk she wasn't that embarrassed by it anymore.

Kyonko trudged through the streets, still feeling incredibly lucky. Her parents had been lenient when she'd said a friend was in trouble and needed help.... she just wasn't allowed to go anywhere unless she could claim it was related to school somehow for a month.

Oh, and she had to call her parents every hour on the hour for the next week whenever she was out of school or the house.

And the chores she had to do on her days off from school ( ... )

Erk, true to his word, was indeed still in the library; he'd been steadily chewing his way through most of the history and culture topics in the encyclopedias in an attempt to look less like someone who really didn't know what he was doing. Occasionally he'd pause and note something that seemed important or that bore further research down. If it seemed really important he'd stop and go read up on that topic.

He looked up as they approached. "Afternoon."

Kyonko's face lit up with relief upon seeing him safe and sound and she reached into her bag, holding out a lunch she'd made that morning.

"Here, you usually forget to eat when you're left in a library long enough," she told him with a small smile and then glanced at the books he had, "What are you looking up?"

Nagato merely inclined his head in greeting, but was otherwise silent.

Erk smiled at her. "Thanks, love." She was right; the money Nagato had given him was still in his pocket. When she asked him what he was looking up, all he could do was shrug and give her one word. "Everything."

"I can't believe he actually demanded we get paired up together," Kyonko said the next day while the two of them wandered through the park.

She was still shocked her parents had bought the story of her going out to study with the Brigade and even more shocked she was getting time alone with Erk on top of that. Kyonko had honestly thought that morning in her house would be her last chance for a long time and here Haruki was just handing her what she had wanted since she left Nagato's apartment the other day!

'Okay, is the world seriously ending. Haruki normally isn't this nice--even if he doesn't realize he's being nice to me for once.'

She looked up at Erk, unable to stop smiling when she did so.

"Anything you want me to show you? Haruki's little 'searched for the unknown' always wind up producing absolutely nothing, so we're pretty much free to do whatever until he calls and demands I pay for lunch for everyone."

Erk sighed. He wondered how long he could avoid having to explain what he'd been told to do; he had a feeling her good mood would vanish very quickly once he did. "I don't have anything particular in mind... anything you really think I should see that I haven't yet?"

"Not off the top of my head," she said with a shrug, "It's weird, I spent months thinking of all the things I'd show you if you were here and now that you are, I can't remember a single one."

She ran her hand through her hair again, wondering if she should let it down. This would probably be the closest she'd get to a proper date with Erk for a while, but how would she explain it if she ran into Haruki?

....why was she acting like such a teenage girl?!

Erk would probably have felt even guiltier if he'd known what she was thinking. He was pretty sure it showed on his face, at this point, too...
