Вторая серия фотографий посвящена Кафедральному собору Турку - главному храму лютеранской веры и национальной святыне Финляндии.
Собор, которому уже более 700 лет, находится в центре Турку, на холме Униканкаре. В XIII веке было решено перенести главное святилище Финляндской епархии в Турку, который к тому моменту стал важнейшим торговым центром страны. Церемония освящения собора состоялась в 1300 году. Современная башня собора была возведена заново после сокрушительного пожара 1827 года, уничтожившего почти весь город. Кроме того, в XIX веке заново был создан внутренний интерьер собора в стиле новой готики. Красочные витражи северной стены здания выполнены русским художником Владимиром Сверчковым в семидесятых годах XIX века. Полная реставрация собора была завершена в 1979 году, а три года спустя на южной галерее собора был открыт Кафедральный музей.
The second series of photos is devoted to the Turku Cathedral, the mother church of the Lutheran Church of Finland, and the countrys national shrine.
Cathedral, which history is more than 700 years, is located in the heart of Turku, on Unikankare Mound. In the XIII century it was decided to transfer the main sanctuary of the Diocese of Finland to Turku, which at that time become an important trading center of the country. The ceremony of the Cathedrals consecration took place in 1300. The modern tower of the cathedral was built anew after the devastating fire in 1827 that destroyed almost the entire city. Furthermore, in the XIX century the interior of cathedral was recreated in the new Gothic style. The colourful stained-glass windows in the chapels along the north side of the nave date from the 1870s, and are the work of Wladimir Swertschkoff, a Russian artist. The full restoration of the cathedral was completed in 1979, and three years later at the southern gallery of the cathedral was opened the Cathedral Museum.
