Saturday was generally uneventful for me. I did go and see Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, but before that went to KFC for lunch. KFC has "boneless wings" which are indeed boneless and probably are wings, but somehow didn't do much for me. Even with having lunch before going to the theater, I wound up at the concession stand. It's like he took chocolate syrup, chocolate shavings, chocolate cake, ice cream, cream-cheese frosting, oreo cookies, and whipped cream, and managed to create a lima bean and brussel-sprout salad.

After my last LJ post I got curious about the Oompa Loompa lyrics and went looking for them. First, the lyrics from the movie can be found in this web board thread. And the much lengthier versions from the book(s) can be found here.

Yesterday I went and saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I wasn't sure what to expect since while I had never read the book, I had seen the 1971 version, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and the screenwriter for Charlie had not seen the 1971 version, and was instructed not to see it.

That movie has been showing now. Even Fairmont's little theater did the bit with selling tickets late at night and then showing the picture just after midnight. I am planning on seeing it, eventually, though only to have an idea of what many are going on about rather than as a true fan. And, well, it's a movie. It's not a great movie. It's not a terrible movie, either. It does feel a like it's misfiring - existing in the incredible state of Almost. Remember The Giant Spider Invasion? Want more? You're in luck. I'm not sure it's good luck, but you're in it. This time it'll be a UFO picture. I don't know which is more disturbing, that Rebane is making another movie or that there is a DVD documentary about his moviemaking.

Before Mystery Science Theater 3000 and before Elvira, there were other local productions where older B movies were shown. There was a short-lived, I think, one in the late 1970s from a TV station in Wausau, WI that was on sometime on a weekend afternoon.
