Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Yesterday I went and saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I wasn't sure what to expect since while I had never read the book, I had seen the 1971 version, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and the screenwriter for Charlie had not seen the 1971 version, and was instructed not to see it.

That's cool. I was debating seeing this movie just because I'm a fan of Tim Burton. The original movie wasn't bad, to me, after they got into the factory.. and even then there were random bits of song and dance that seemed to drag it on.

Good to hear that's been removed.. I was questioning the ability of Depp to carry a tune after hearing about this movie about a month and a half ago. :)

I was willing to suspend disbelief for the elevator since they at least showed some inertia effects. If the elevator was going to bother me, I'd ask questions about where all the fuel is coming from.

I can't wait to see this movie. Judging strictly by the previews, though, I do have an observation. While the movie seems very colorful - that is, it uses lots of bright, kid-friendly, candy colors, Wonka himself seems very gray... even grim. I've heard his character is rather grim. It'll be interesting to see how this symbolism is dramatized in the movie.
