Thoughts on the speeches?

Thought McCain's was incredibly gracious and short. Obama started out strong and then got a little meandering but he's pulling us back with the 100+-year-old-woman who lived to see so much. And the sermon like "Yes we can" is bringing it back to the crowd. What did you think?

elections, obama

It's e pluribus unum time, folks. From many, one nation. Or, as Ben Franklin said, we should all hang together, gentlemen, or we shall certainly all hang separately.

Let's get on with it.

It seemed like the booing crowd ticked McCain off as well.

Obama: Yes We Did!!!! zeitgeistbuzz November 5 2008, 05:21:32 UTC
Yes he did, folks! Say hello to President Elect Barack Obama. Now, can he pull off the hat trick? President Obama is now responsible for restoring America’s economy, Americans’ faith in themselves, and America’s place in the world. Yes, Obama has won…a shot at the toughest job in the world. There’s a lot of work to do. Let’s get on with it.

Let me remind you - there is still 2.5 months of Bush left. And there is still a lot to destroy in our economy.

That was my thought exactly. Bush and Cheney have the opportunity to pull out all the stops now. I took over a receptionist position once from someone who did not like me at all -- I think she was being fired -- and she took it upon herself to completely disorganize everything in the filing cabinets, etc.. Not a completely parallel scenario, but I think you know what I'm getting at.

Obama's speech was a home run.

The minute the McCain supporters started booing and McCain "attempted" to stop them, I was really hoping that I would've been there and could have told them to close their mouths. I just thought it was rude. Of course I can see why they were mad, but then again that's no way to act.

I was proud of John for excluding the mudslinging in his speech.

What I noticed was the near complete absence of reference to God, which seems to me to be unprecedented (but I'm not a presidential-acceptance-speech-ologist). As an atheist who figures there won't be an atheist president until the sun expands and snuffs out all life in the solar system, I'm just thrilled at the concept of seeing a true separation of church and state. Plus, Obama is good at talkin'. He stuffed that speech full of pull-quotes.

Maybe I'm a sap but it sure does make me happy to hear other people say stuff like this.
