How do you use Userpics?

A friend of mine recently posted that she had some new Userpics. Looking them over, I realized that not one of them was a recognizable picture of her.

I then looked at mine and realized all my Userpics are pictures of me, and most of them are quite recognizable:

I've got this userpic which is the only flattering snapshot that's been taken of me in about ten years, and another which is a photo of the Ivory-Bill Woodpecker applique I did for my current purse, and another that is a photo of a pillow I did so long ago that it has disintegrated from wear and tear since the photo was taken.

I put a lot of thought into "msminlr" as a screen name, because I wanted something that wasn't a nickname I'd get tired of within three months. I use it on any system that will let me.
I suppose whenever we retire to Mississippi I'll have to replace the "LR" with "MS".

my real name is VERY common, so it's usually difficult to get any form of it as a username.

Userpics are a combination of real photos and mood-describing comic pieces, and pictures of the kids and such where appropriate.

I use a variant of my actual name as my username; anyone who knows me and pays attention can figure that out. My userpics are a melange of photos that relate to what I might be posting about, and four are semi-recognizable pictures of me.

I have my hat-with-horns. It is part of my recognizeable self - so people who half know me can go 'oh-yeah her'. The ones I have loaded but don't use are all mermaids... probably in echo of my studio name - but I tend not to use them.
