Chapter 20 “No, Bam, and that’s final…” The motherly tone in April’s voice rang out shriller than she had intended.
Not being one to take no graciously, Bam fired back. “Why the hell not?!”
“You listen here, Brandon… I think I’ve been a lot more accepting of all this than most mother’s would… but I refuse to let you climb back in that truck and cross state lines… how will you get back hom?!”
“I’ll ride the Greyhound back with Ryan.”
“Have you seen the people that ride those things…?!” She raised her voice.
Slamming the fridge door, Bam seethed. “Yeah, Ape, I have… I’ve fucking slept in bus terminals to keep out of the cold… they’re just people like you and me.”
Another tidbit concerning his life between home and Dunn served to shut her up quickly. April whispered her response. “You’re not going, Bam… drop it.” She set down the dish she had been putting away on the counter and left the room.
Bam crumpled into a chair at the table. Pressing his forehead to his crossed arms, he closed his eyes only to sigh in frustration when the memory of Ryan’s naked body appeared behind his eyelids. He groaned and sat up. With a frown etched deep into his face, he wandered around the house in search of the trucker. At long last he found him outside at his truck… packing. He walked up beside him. “I can’t believe you… doing all this… for me.” Bam spoke with a sense of disbelief.
Dunn forced a smile and slithered an arm around Bam’s waist. “It’s just under a year until you’re 18, right?”
“…yeah.”
“Not so long, in the scheme of things…”
Leaning into Ryan’s touch, Bam sighed. “Ape’s not gonna let me ride with you…”
“I didn’t really expect her to…” He confessed.
“But she leaves us alone and unattended here…”
“Where she can at least tell herself that she has some kind of presence… in this truck… we might as well be on the other side of the world as Youngstown.”
“… you’re coming back, right?!”
Taking Bam’s face in his hands, Dunn kissed him. “Of course I am!”
“Where are you going to live?”
“I’ve been talking to Deron about moving in with him until I could afford my own place…”
“…I’m going to miss you, Ry.”
“You too, Bam… I‘m going to miss you too.” He squeezed Bam into a hug. When the drew apart, he looked back up at the truck. “Will you give me a hand with these boxes… I’ll hand them out of the truck to you… so I’m not climbing in and out over and over…”
“Sure…”
Inside the house, Phil had motioned April over to the window and they’d both stood with baited breath as Bam had approached the truck. Now they looked on in ever increasing shock while their son helped Dunn with moving at least five cardboard boxes. Each day he was proving just how much time had changed him.

Dinner time came and went at the Margera household. Ryan and Bam found themselves back in the den. Bam was shredding back and forth on his ramp while Dunn sorted through some paperwork he needed to send into his company now that he was quitting.
“Mind if I play some music? Or will it distract you?” Bam stood in front of the jukebox with a question upon his lips.
“Nah, go ahead…” Dunn mumbled.
Grinning like a Cheshire cat, Bam turned on a CKY disc, knowing that Ryan wouldn’t have a clue who they were and began skating back and forth once more.
“Failed attempts have turned us into one pathetic twisted wreck… all is eerie, you’re standing near me… I feel you breathing down my neck…” So lost in his organization, Dunn didn’t realize he’d been singing along quietly until Bam nearly fell off of his board with shock laced in his voice.
“You know this band?!”
Ryan glanced up from his work. “Uh… yeah… they played in Medina a couple times… I never saw them live or anything… but they were all over the radio stations for a while… why you thought I wouldn’t? I’m more surprised that you know who they are…”
Flipping his skateboard up into his hand, Bam replied. “They’re CKY…”
“… the band your brother seems to be into so much?” Dunn asked distractedly never meeting Bam’s eyes.
“No… the band that my brother is IN.”
That gave Ryan pause. He looked up at Bam. “No shit?! Damn… wow.”
“Yeah… wow.”

April walked in a few moments later wiping her hands on a dish towel. She sat down on the other side of Dunn trying not to dislodge his work. “Jesse tells me that you’re talking about moving in with Deron?”
“…yeah.”
Placing a hand on his knee, April replied. “Stay with us… I can fix up the guest room.”
“But…”
“No buts… it’s the least we can do…”
“…okay…?” He made eyes shocked and confused eyes at Bam.
Patting his leg, April stood and left them alone in the den. Bam was about to curl up on the couch next to Ryan when Jesse walked in. “Jesus… there’s not a moment’s fucking peace in this house…” He grumbled.
“Yeah, yeah… little brother. Just thought the two of you might like to know that Ape and Phil went out for a few drinks with the Rothsteins… it’s just the three of us… and I’ll be in my room.”
As soon as Jesse left, Bam resumed his trek and crawled across the couch. He slowly and meticulously placed each organized stack of paper neatly on the floor before straddling Dunn’s lap with a smile. “I’ve been wanting to do this all day…”
With little to no hesitation, Ryan’s hands clasp onto Bam’s hips as their lips met roughly giving way to frustration and comfort all at once as they opened their mouths wide allowing their tongues to desperately coil around each other.
Running his hands over the bubble of Bam’s ass and slowly over his spread thighs, Dunn thrust up forcefully. Bam gasped as his knees left the slick leather of the couch. Both cried out in need and pleasure. But Bam pulled away suddenly. “What if Ape’s right… what if I’m just confused…?” He whispered.
“Do you feel confused?” Ryan asked trying to mask the hurt in his voice.
“No.”
“Did Bethany make you short of breath… or… make your cock twitch?”
“Fuck no.”
“Do I?”
“Uh huh…” Bam zeroed in on Dunn’s neck licking and sucking at it.
“I think…” Ryan let out a surprised gasp when Bam literally bit him. “That you’ve been listening to your mom too much.”
“It’s hard not to…” Removing his mouth from the trucker’s neck and resting his forehead against his shoulder, Bam sighed. “I feel like we’re lying to her… when we immediately jump each other as soon as she’s out of the house…”
This shocked Dunn more than he‘d let on. He‘d been expecting to have to breech the subject with Bam… probably causing a fight. Not for a second had he entertained the thought that the boy would be feeling the same way. “Me too… do you want to stop?”
“…Yeah.”
Even knowing that he felt just as guilty, Ryan couldn‘t help but feel a sense of loneliness and desperation wash over him. “Want me to sleep in your room with you tonight?”
“Please.” Was Bam’s simple and solemn answer.
“Let me get this cleaned up…” Dunn motioned at the scattered piles of papers. Bam quickly climbed off his lap and knelt on the floor. Stack after stack, he picked them up and placed them in alternating directions on a combined . “Thanks…” Ryan whispered and gave him a peck on the cheek as they left the room.

The cotton of Dunn’s shirt clung to his stomach with sweat. He didn’t want to wake up, but the unbearable temperature wasn’t giving him much option. Bam must have the heat turned up all the way in his room. As he peeled off his shirt, Ryan looked around Bam’s empty room in search of a clock. Upon not finding one, he fished his cell phone out of his pocket. It was damn near noon. No wonder he’d woken alone. Groaning he held a pillow over his face. A few minutes later, the door slid open and Ryan could hear footsteps softly crossing the room. A little too softly… He grinned into the purple linen and waited for Bam to stretch out over him and pull away the pillow to wake him with a kiss… possibly something more explicit. Cold fingers ghosted over his stomach and tugged gently at the waist of his jeans. Explicit then definitely explicit. Wait… cold? Bam’s fingers were never cold. Dunn started to lift the pillow from his face when a small handful of ice slid down his boxers and came to an abrupt stop just above his cock and balls. Jumping off the bed he hopped up and down trying to shake the cute down the leg of his pants. Nearly crumpling to the floor in laughter, Bam’s eyes twinkled. Ryan ended up unzipping his pants and dumping the ice out of his underwear. He leered at Bam as he zipped and refastened the jeans. The boy had began inching towards the door. Dunn grabbed a few cubes that had fallen to the floor.
Bam’s laughter echoed through out the house as he sped down the stairs. The unnoticed inhabitants of the living room looked up startled when Ryan pounced and tackled him to the floor. Writhing and screaming in mirth, Bam finally squirmed away when Dunn’s revenge was complete.
Dico was the first to speak as he stood and clasp Ryan’s hand as if he’d just won some award. With a pat on his shoulder, Dico congratulated him on giving Bam as good as he got. Raab and Jesse just snickered. Bam, however, was slinking back up the stairs holding his wet pants away from his skin. Dunn’s eyes followed him. Normally he would have followed, but with so many watching eyes. Ultimately it was April’s shocked face at his state of near undress that sent him high tailing it up the stairs to grab himself a shirt.

It had been trying but Ryan had finally managed to get away from Bam and his family and friends. As per the norm when the boy wasn’t around, he ended up in the den. This time he squatted and ran his hands over the smooth yet worn wood of the ramp. It was clearly a testament to one of the great loves of Bam’s life. Dunn’s thoughts fell suddenly on the ramp outside. The words of hate were still clearly painted across it. Suddenly he had a plan for the day. Seeking out Phil, thankfully up in his office away from the madness of the hyper crowd downstairs, Ryan knocked on the door frame before entering.
“Hey… Phil?”
Bam’s father looked up at him and after a few seconds a polite smile spread across his face. “Yes, Ryan?”
“Do you have any paint sitting around… I was thinking about going outside and fixing Bam’s ramp while he hung out with his friends downstairs…”
With a grunt caused more by his size and aching knees than the request, Phil got up and led Dunn to their garage. He pointed at a few cans. “There’s some of the paint left from the den in that can.” Phil picked up two unopened cans. “April bought these a few months back. She was threatening to convert the den into a craft room after Bam dropped out of school… they’re…” He peered at the label. “A light gray-blue… think that’d work?”
With a nod, Ryan searched the walls for a paint roller and tub. He grabbed them and turned back to Phil. “She won’t mind if I use them?”
“Can always get more if she does…” Phil bent over and picked up the cans. “Grab another roller I’ll help.”
Within an hour, the sun had chased away the chill in the air. Dunn could hardly believe how nice the weather actually seemed to be. Pulling his hair back into a pony tail, he took a step off the ramp as he rolled on the last coat of the blue. Bam’s dad had taken to detailing the ramp with the pastel purple. “You think he’ll like it?” Ryan called out to Phil as he focused on removing the paint soaked tube from the roller.
“I fucking love it!”
Wide eyed and smiling, Dunn turned towards Bam. “I didn’t see you come out of the house…” He swept his eyes over their work. “You really like it?”
Walking around the still wet ramp, Bam stopped at Ryan’s side. “Yeah… I really do.” Their eyes met and the world around them faded. Dico and Raab’s sudden wrestling match on the lawn never met their ears. Bam’s voice faltered and shook as he ran the palm of his hand over Dunn’s cheek and beard. “Thank you…” He leaned forward and pressed his lips to Ryan’s. It was chaste but lingering and left them both grinning sheepishly when Phil cleared his throat and they finally noticed three sets of eyes watching them closely…
