Moon's room - Moon's dream: Moon, Danni, (Salene, Mouse)

Aug 23, 2004 18:02

Moon was still sleeping from earlier. Initially she slept quietly and blankly, her body taking the opportunity to recharge itself. Then, she started to dream, clearly and vividly, tossing and turning in her sleep as she did so.

Danni entered the room seeing Moon sleeping, and didn't really wish to disturb her. She looked troubled, like there was something in her dreams causing her bother. Danni placed the plate of food down on Moon's small bedside table, and sat down on the bed next to Moon. Danni pondered on whatever Moon may be dreaming about. She hoped that she hadn't caused her to have nightmares.

Dann was about to reach over and gently wake her up, but then without warning Moon jolted awake, causing Danni to feel shocked and to retract her hand. Moon looked wild, frightened, and completely disorientated. Danni was unsure of what to do. She didn't want to frighten her any more, so she spoke softly. "Moon, are you ok?" She asked concerned.

Sitting up abruptly, looking around her wildly yet hardly seeing, Moon struggled to control her breath from the shock of waking so suddenly. As it did she looked up and saw Danni, and without thinking Moon clung to her as the dream came flooding back to her, all its emotion seeming to rush through her at once.

"Please, no... don't let them take me, I don't want to go back," she sobbed, "I don't want to go back." She shook with fear, still not yet fully awake, not yet able to discern the boundary between sleep and consciousness.

As Moon clung onto Danni she was initially surprised, but then the concern she felt for Moon hit her hard. What had she dreamt about for her to react in such a way? She wrapped her arms around Moon, hoping to offer her some form of comfort, and hoping to reassure her that Danni would never let her come to any harm.

Danni listened to what Moon was saying. She didn't understand what she was talking about; go back where? Where ever it was, it must be a terrible place to scare Moon so much. "It's ok she said, still holding onto Moon. "I won't make you go anywhere, you're safe with me, I promise." Danni didn't know what else to do other than to confort Moon, hoping that she would explain more so that maybe Danni could uderstand and help further.

Slowly, as Moon started to realise that she was awake, she heard Danni's voice, promising her she was safe, soothing her. For a brief moment she wondered how she had managed to end up in Danni's arms again; however it had happened, she was glad she was there, she felt safe.

Moon was silent for a while as she calmed down, letting the haze of sleep clear a little. Her eyes were distant as her mind replayed the dream, disjointed and in fragments. Finally, she spoke, though her words were as jumbled as her thoughts.
"I was so scared, they were chasing me... I didn't see them but I know it was them," Moon frowned as she tried to remember, "and then he had me but then I was falling - I only wanted to touch the water..."

Danni looked down at her hand in Moon's and smiled. She was nervous about telling Moon exactly how she had ended up at the Mall, how Bray had found her, but somehow having Moon hold her hand made it okay. She took a deep breath and thought carefully about how to phrase what she had to say. "When Bray found me I was hiding. I was in one of the old government buildings, one of the places where scientists had been working on a cure for the virus." Danni paused, thinking about how to tell Moon about her father, not sure if there would ever be an easy way to say what she had to say. She no longer blmaed herself for the virus, but it would never be easy to talk about ( ... )

Moon listened in silence as Danni began to talk. She could tell by the way she was speaking that it was going to be quite a story - though as it progressed, Moon could hardly believe what she was hearing. Danni's father had caused the virus?! The whole hiding-with-crossbows thing started to make more sense now. Moon couldn't imagine how scary that must have been for a young girl, alone, waiting for your own death sentence. More than ever she was amazed at how Danni seemed to have coped through it all. She would never have guessed ( ... )

Feeling Moon brush away a tear Danni felt the urge to cry once more, feeling that with Moon she would be safe to show her emotions, but she stopped herself. Now wasn't the time. She had been here to try and comfort Moon and it wasn't fair of her to place any burden on her ( ... )

Moon could sense a lot of emotion going on inside Danni, which was hardly surprising. She felt it best to stay quiet, though, reasoning that if Danni wanted to talk about it then she would. Besides, she knew that she could never really grasp the enormity of what had happened.

"...I do believe that fate had a hand in introducing me to you. I..."
Moon wondered what Danni might have said if she had finished that sentence, but then Danni drew her attention to the food.
"Oh, thank you, you are very kind," she said gratefully, leaning over and picking up the plate and fork. As she started to eat, she realised that she was actually quite hungry, and for a minute or two she ate steadily in silence, her mind solely on the taste of the food. Once she slowed down, she spoke again.
"I wonder if it rained at all. Do we need to water your herbs?"

Moon smiled softly, touched at Danni's words. She was so warm and eager in her manner, but Moon could tell that Danni would be sad if she ever had to leave. She shook her head gently.
"No... I wouldn't allow it, I know your heart is here," she said. "I may not belong anywhere, but you do - here, in the city, with the Mallrats."

She paused, interlacing her fingers with Danni's, her thumb automatically taking up an idle stroking motion. It seemed to ground her, keep her calm. After a few moments she looked up into Danni's eyes.
"I guess that means I'll stick around a while," she said, a shy smile on her lips.

"I'm glad." Danni said, warmly smiling. Looking down at where Moon was gently stroking her with her thumb, Danni thought how insane it was that at one moment she could feel totally at peace yet have shivers running down her spine at the same time, simply from Moon touching her. She'd never felt like this before, her emotions had never been so conflicted with Bray. With him there was a sense of safety and security, reliability, which was what she thought she had wanted. But now she had experienced this new feeling, with Moon of all people, she knew there was no turning back. She would have to follow this path and see where ever it would lead her and hopefully Moon would be by her side all the way ( ... )

Moon lost herself in the tender kiss, nothing could have humanly stopped her. There was no way she could leave this, ever. Her breath was taken away at how sweet Danni's kiss was, making her crave more and more. For a long moment she had no concept of where she was, all she could concentrate on was these wonderful sensations.

Running a hand through Danni's hair, Moon kissed and kissed again, almost alarmed at the way her body was responding. Suddenly Moon heard someone walking past her room - she pulled away from Danni in reflex, wide eyes fixing upon the curtain that served as her door. People hardly ever came to Moon's room, and if they did they knocked or called, but Moon just couldn't help her reaction, her paranoia that this would be the one time when someone walked straight in.

No-one did, however, and the footsteps faded away. Moon let out the breath she had been holding in, and looked back to Danni with a guilty expression.
"Sorry."

Danni's heart couldn't help but sink as Moon pulled away. Danni could hear the footsteps and assumed that that must be the reason why. She thought back to earlier when Moon had said that they mustn't tell anyone and figured that even though Moon was more comfortable around Danni, it would be a long while until she would be comfortable with this around all the Mall Rats. Danni could partially understand this, though couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. She knew that everything would be fine, but still, the paranoid side of her brain took it as a sign that maybe Moon wasn't that interested in being with Danni. After all, if she really cared, she wouldn't care who knew, would she ( ... )

"Hawk is back. Did you see Hawk? Does that mean Pride is coming back too?" Salene shifted Mouse on her hip, she only wished she could shift her heart and the pang that sent through her, the guilt. She forced a smile, soft and closed lipped, it wasn't Mouse's fault, she was innocent in this, and Salene was just still really irritated with Pride that he hadn't even written the kids yet. "I did see Hawk, he came to visit Trudy and Brady," she said softly, walking towards Moon's room. "I don't know if Pride is coming back, maybe someday, now let's be quiet I don't want to wake Moon if she's not up," she instructed, shifting her once more before walking to the curtain. She would normally have knocked, or called out her name, but Salene really didn't want to wake her if she was resting. She peeked into the room, between the bead curtain and stopped. Was...that Danni ( ... )

Mouse bit down on her reply about Pride when Salene asked her to be quiet. Though questions buzzed around in her head. She really wanted to see Pride and she hoped he'd come to visit her. Even though Ryan seemed really nice, Mouse still wanted Pride to come back.
Salene poked her head into Moon's room, and then drew back. Mouse was getting restlss. All this waiting was getting really boring. Finally Salene nodded to her, as if she had decided something. Then she started to talk to Moon. Mouse smiled widely at both Moon and Danni.
"Hi!" She chripped.

Danni was partialy sated by Moon saying that she wasn't ashamed, she could understand the reflex of pulling back, of not wanting to be caught. But still, the small paranoid voice inside was beginning to make itself very vocal once more. Danni listened to Moon, and as she touched Danni's face, Danni's skin tingled and burned, making her want to kiss Moon once more ( ... )

Moon fairly leapt at the sound of Salene's voice. Head buried in Danni's shoulder, she had not heard Salene enter the room, and to make things worse, she also heard Mouse's voice. Moon looked up, with an expression like a deer in headlights, her heart pounding wildly in her ears - she'd been caught ( ... )

Danni had a feeling that this would happen. She couldn't help but look disappointedly at the floor, unsure of what to do or say. She certainly believed that Moon was worth fighting for, worth anything perhaps, but if Moon didn't feel the same way then what was the point? Danni had just lied to her friend for Moon's sake, and now Moon was telling her there was no chance. Something about that didn't exactly strike Danni as fair ( ... )

Through closed eyelids Moon listened as Danni reacted in an only natural way - anger. She could tell that Danni was trying to stay calm and not raise her voice, but that the emotion was there. Why do I always seem to incur people's anger? wondered Moon miserably, feeling very sorry for herself ( ... )

Danni followed Moon's gesture and sat down next to her. She was expecting the big let down, the grand speech about how all this was a nice idea but it just wasn't going to work. She put her head in her hands and waited for the inevitable. As Moon spoke it took Danni a couple of seconds for it to register what exactly Moon was saying to her. She listened carefully and felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe things could work out, just maybe ( ... )

It was of some comfort to Moon to know that Danni was struggling with the same issue. Danni's words made an impression in Moon's mind, and she repeated them over in her head. "I'm fed up of living by other people's rules so I choose to follow my heart." Moon had not consciously acknowledged how affected she was by other people's standards - until now. With Danni, she felt like an individual, worthy of respect, and above all - she wanted to follow her heart ( ... )
