Moon was still sleeping from
earlier. Initially she slept quietly and blankly, her body taking the opportunity to recharge itself. Then, she started to dream, clearly and vividly, tossing and turning in her sleep as she did so.

Walking a winding path through a murky forest, Moon looked around nervously. There was no sound, no breeze, just a chilling calm. For as far as she could see, the tall trees surrounded her; there was no choice but to keep walking. Uneasy, Moon quickened her pace, feeling that something was lurking, watching and following silently. As she walked, she started to hear faint breaths swirling around her, haunting whispers that spoke her name. "Moon. Mooooooooooon."
Moon broke into a run. Something about these voices filled her with terror, and as she ran, they seemed to get louder. "Moon! Moon! Do you think you can run from us?" Running blindly, her breath wild, following this path - where was it going? - Moon heard the voices even louder. She could now distinguish them, there were two, and although distorted, she could tell one was male, the other female.
"Moon! How dare you run away! Look at us when we're talking to you!" boomed the male voice, and though she didn't stop running, Moon turned to look over her shoulder. There, behind her, two ominous black shadows were tailing her, gliding effortlessly above the ground in their pursuit. Moon let out a terrified cry as she tore her gaze away from them, and put even more effort into her escape, though her legs seemed to be so feeble and slow.
"Why do you always insist on being different, Moon? Why can't you just be like other girls your age?" The female voice was stringent and disapproving. "You always have to be difficult, don't you?"
Moon tried to cover her ears, shut out the sound, but it was as if it was coming from inside her head, it was everywhere. It always had been. Feeling weak and small, Moon could hardly see where she was going for the tears that had started to course down her face - not that it mattered, the path didn't seem to be leading anywhere, it just went on and on, twisting and turning... and getting steadily narrower.
The booming sound of, "Moon! Get back here!" negated any thought of turning back, though, not with those terrifying things following her. Not again.
"No, no," sobbed Moon, so out of breath that she was barely audible, "I can't! Please, leave me alone! Please!" She ran further, tree branches starting to brush against her as she pushed past, gnarled twigs catching on her clothes, hindering her. The shadows were gaining on her, and Moon could only think of somehow escaping them, she just knew that she had to. "Moon! You will not get away with this! Moon!" the voices howled in unison. The path was now ever thinner, the trees suffocatingly close, and Moon could feel the pain of each scratching branch, the ripping of her clothes as she tugged away, protecting her face with her arms as she pushed blindly through...
...and suddenly, she was free. There were no trees, no path, no darkness. The shadows were gone, she was no longer being chased. Wiping her eyes as she caught her breath, Moon looked around her. She was stood in an bright and sunny open plain, the long grasses and wildflowers swaying softly in the breeze that came in from over a beautiful, clear lake. Moon gasped at the sight of it, hypnotised by the way the sunbeams danced over its surface. Forgetting the distress and terror she had just experienced, Moon was overwhelmed by an urge to dive into the pure water, let it engulf her completely, her worries dissolving away.
Eyes bright, Moon ran towards the lake, heart swelling in anticipation. Without warning, a cavernous hole appeared in the ground in front of her, deep and inky black, and before she could stop her momentum, Moon tripped and fell in. As if in slow motion, as she fell, she heard the thundering of hooves behind her, and someone grabbing her ankle with a firm grip. As she dangled there, over the abyss, she tried to see who it was that was holding her - they didn't seem to be trying to pull her out, just keeping her suspended there.
"Help me!" pleaded Moon, "Please, get me out of here!"
But nothing happened. She heard a laugh, the laugh of a young man, who then spoke.
"Oh, Moon, Moon," he chuckled coldly, "why would I do that? I've got you right where I want you..."
Moon took in a sharp breath as she realised who the voice belonged to. If the choice was to be held here by him, or fall, she would rather fall. She struggled, wrenching her ankle free of his crushing grip, and falling, falling endlessly into the darkness.

Moon awoke with a jolt, gasping for breath, sweat breaking out along her hairline. Completely disoriented by her nightmare, she didn't have the faintest idea where she was.
