I ran four days last week for a total of 8.4 miles.

A good start. All of these were basically 30 minute sessions. I'm building slowly to significantly longer sessions over the next couple months. On Friday through Sunday, I also walked outside with my wife with each walk ranging from 1.4 to 2.5 miles. Thursday saw some strength training for the USAF ( Read more... )

My goals for 2012 are:

1. Stay healthy
2. Train consistently
3. Finish MCM, secondary goal of marathon PR (<6:45)
4. HM PR (<2:28)
5. 10K PR (<55 minutes)

Last year, I ran a remote version of this race in Iraq. That is still my PR for 10K. However, the tag line for this race is "Sea Level is for Sissies". Since Balad is only at 164 feet ASL, I felt the need to remedy that by running the real thing. The highest point on the course is at 5391 feet.

Looking at my previous year-end post, I only made progress on one of the goals mentioned for this year:  I lost weight.

I had hoped to do better, but I am 6 pounds less now than then.  I have also run several 5K races, 3 10K races, and 1 half marathon.  I feel better than I have for a while and don't dread (as much) seeing myself in the mirror.

I ran the Big House Big Heart 5K this morning.  This was mostly to see where I am after the half-marathon two weeks ago.

Results have been posted.  My chip time for the race was 29:16.7 for an average pace of 9:25/mile.  Fairly good starting point considering minimal training and the hilly course.  I will definitely need to work on speed during the ( Read more... )

Today's 5K went much better than the last one.

Official time was 27:39.

I'm back into regular training for running.  Today is the end of the second week of training for a 10K in mid-April.  Progress is being made.  Knee is an issue, but it is getting better.  I have a "soft" goal for the 10K of just finishing according to my plan before the race.  (I went out too fast during my first 5K on 1 Feb.)

I completed my first 5K this morning.  My time was less than stellar and I am having issues with my knee, but I did finish.
