Hail the Conqering Heroes [closed]

It was one exhausted, tired, alien puke-covered, acid blood-burnt group of people that trundled out of the hangar and into the ship proper. Their mission? Had sucked. Their intel had been wrong. Their lives had nearly been forfeit ( Read more... )

As they made their way to Medbay from the Hangar, it was a perfect time to grumble.

Or, in Kettch's case, celebrate.

Tobias was relieved to be out of there and out of morph. He didn't need to worry about injuries, but he was still tired and unsettled, like he was after most any big battle. He looked around, taking stock of who was in what condition. It was a miracle no one had died.

Time to get patched up! Good thing they have doctors on hand and that one of their own is an army medic herself.

Leon had mentioned that there would be the need for patching up after the situation with Kawalsky and Cassie, so Katara had come here, willing to help. After her talk with Billy she felt a little better, but not much. She was still thinking about what would be done for morale, and what SHOULD be done in the future when fighting foes like these. She would be ready, she swore it to herself.

But for now, people needed patching up, and she was at medbay, scrubbed up and ready to help.

Stoick grunted as he wearily made his way down to medbay. He was one big solid bruise except for places where the acid blood had burned his arms. He cradled his shield arm against his body, fairly certain he'd broken it, and walking gingerly to prevent unnecessary pain. Viking he might be, impervious to pain he was not.

Still, he nearly stumbled and was grateful for Kang's support at his side. At least Hiccup seemed to be alright.

Kang was easily able to support Stoick, being no light-weight himself, though he did wince slightly. He had a few minor injuries, mostly scratches, but he had also twisted his ankle at some point in the tunnels.

"Take care of him first, Katara. He's got the worst injuries."

So, someone's stomach just had something explode out of it. Your thoughts, people of Medbay?

As soon as the... whatever it was, burst out of Hiccup's chest, Kang took a step back, wings flaring slightly in surprise, and let loose a loud (and extremely filthy) curse in Nerakese.

Holy shit. Holy shit.

After Stacy effectively killed it, all he could do was stare at the boy's body in complete shock and send a prayer to every god he'd ever heard of, even the ones in the good pantheon, that he wasn't dead, he would be okay.

Kettch recoiled with a cry at the burst of blood and Hiccup's high pitched screaming. Blood spattered across his fur and the floor and he stared aghast at the human boy and the demonspawn ( ... )

With the parasite having chosen a slightly (slightly) less fatal route of exit, there was still a chance Hiccup could survive.

But it was a small one, and would only possible if the medical staff worked fast.

"I said, get back! I need room to work and you need to be scanned along with everyone else," said the hologram to Stoick. "The best thing you can do for him is stay out of my way."

Even as he spoke, his hands were moving, setting up some sort of device on the boy's temple, injecting him with various things. Stacy's tentacles assisted, preparing donor blood and peeling away the plantsuit and covering the lower half of his body with a sheet.

Stoick stumbled back, away from his son, watching with large eyes as the medic got to work on his son. He wasn't sure he could watch, but he couldn't look away either. Come on, Hiccup. Fight!

For the first time in his life, Stoick felt helpless. Not weak, not unable to defend himself, but downright helpless. He could do nothing for his son, except watch and stay beside him. Or at the moment, out of the way and pray to whatever gods were listening that his son would be spared Valhalla.

Katara had been speaking with Stoick for a little while, but had thought that after all they'd talked about, Hiccup would be OK. But she'd seen what had happened, and it had taken everything not to jump up and scream. The moment she'd seen what had happened, she knew what she had to do.

"ADEAT!" She called, and the chalice manifested, sparking a little as of settled onto her lap. She closed her eyes, concentrating.

She hoped he was ok.
