Hail the Conqering Heroes [closed]

It was one exhausted, tired, alien puke-covered, acid blood-burnt group of people that trundled out of the hangar and into the ship proper. Their mission? Had sucked. Their intel had been wrong. Their lives had nearly been forfeit ( Read more... )

So, someone's stomach just had something explode out of it. Your thoughts, people of Medbay?

As soon as the... whatever it was, burst out of Hiccup's chest, Kang took a step back, wings flaring slightly in surprise, and let loose a loud (and extremely filthy) curse in Nerakese.

Holy shit. Holy shit.

After Stacy effectively killed it, all he could do was stare at the boy's body in complete shock and send a prayer to every god he'd ever heard of, even the ones in the good pantheon, that he wasn't dead, he would be okay.

Kettch recoiled with a cry at the burst of blood and Hiccup's high pitched screaming. Blood spattered across his fur and the floor and he stared aghast at the human boy and the demonspawn ( ... )

Astrid's scream broke Kang from his shock, and wings rustling, he moved over to her and knelt down next to her, putting a hand on her shoulder. He was unsure of what to say; he didn't want to lie to her and say that Hiccup would be okay when he didn't know if that was the case. So, he just settled with the physical comfort, hoping it'd help at least a little bit.

Kang had seen quite a few horrible things in his life, and had done a few of them himself during the war, but this... this was easily one of the worst.

He blocked the view of Hiccup's body from Astrid, putting his other hand on her back to help steady her.

He thought he'd had a handle on everything up till now.

The abduction, the escape, fighting the aliens, getting off the planet, he'd managed to get through all of that without losing it. But this? Watching that - thing rip its way out of Hiccup's gut?

He'd pressed himself into a corner, as far away from the body as he could get, and he braced there, breathing hard and shaking like a leaf. He could still see it, the gore and slime all over Hiccup like it'd been on the woman and girl down in the caverns, could still smell it, the slime smell was all over him...

- this was simply too much to take on top of everything else and he very suddenly didn't want to be here anymore. He felt himself uncontrollably sliding back toward that black pit in his mind, the place he used to go when Wild Eagle took control - only Wild Eagle was gone. There was nothing there, nothing to take over, nothing to hide him from the sudden overwhelming panic and horror.

Nothing left but himself, gasping and retching his way through his fear.

"HICCUP!" Stoick's voice broke. Actually broke when his son's eyes rolled up and he appeared to be fading away. Dying.

But something erupting from his son's chest was far from what he would have expected and had he been carrying his warhammer, that thing would have been goo on the floor. Perhaps it was just as well he wasn't carrying it, since the amount of blood his son was losing was far more worrisome than the creature that Stacy had just taken care of.

"Hiccup, come on, son, you've come this far, ye can't give up yet." Desperation, pure desperation; he couldn't afford to lose his son. He was all he had left.
