Finished writing 7 and omfg the chapter lengths are insane and beyond my control and I'm pretty sure this will be at least 11 chapters long, which sucks because I wanted a neat number of chapters, like 10. Suck.

Heechul was kicking his bed while muttering obscenities, but Donghae didn't pay him much attention.

“Fucker,” Heechul said, kicking one last time.

Donghae merely sighed, sort of melodramatically, but then, he just didn't care. He'd screwed it up. Royally, this time, and he was pretty sure it wasn't going to be fixed. And he wanted Heechul to know that this time, it really was different.

He hadn't actually ever lusted after his previous shrinks. It had just been this peculiar little game he liked to play, to make them uncomfortable, to make them distracted, anything so he could just work his way out of annoying psychological things like figuring himself out or working through his mental issues. Manipulation was fun. There had been one female therapist whose looks had been quite pleasing (what had been her name? Ara?), and one nice male one, Kangta, with whom Donghae had tried out the whole being sane thing (which, admittedly, had been sort of dull). He'd played with their heads, too, oh plenty, but he hadn't actually cared when they'd been switched to another.

This time, he did care. And he was pretty sure this time other things were different, too. Like maybe he genuinely would like to be sane this time, rehabilitated and so on. Not that he knew what the word meant, exactly.

He could - or could have, now that he probably would never see Dr Kim again - tell a sad story of being just a boy who wanted to be the center of attention, a flaw that turned him to a life of crime. It wasn't exactly true, though. The crimes he ended up committing didn't put him onto the spotlight much (if anything, his stealthiness had been fantastic - up until one of his customers ratted him out to the authorities), as illegally distributing foreign pornography wasn't one of those things you bragged about to anybody. He liked attention, so much was true. The porn thing was just a way to make money, really. He hadn't really ever been sure what he actually wanted to do in life so he strung along with the illegal things and having fun with the money that it paid, until he got busted.

But if Dr Kim thought he would've had a chance of becoming an un-ruined human being somehow, then maybe ... Donghae paused his thinking. It was too late now, and he could really only blame himself.

It had been going so well. Casual flirting, watching Kibum awkwardly shift in his seat, and then - so cruel of Dr Kim to threaten to give Donghae to another shrink - actually being honest with him, and a little pathetic, begging, “Please don't leave me,” really meaning it. He hoped Dr Kim understood that, and then, okay, maybe switching onto manipulation mode for a moment, he wanted Dr Kim's promise for it, that they'd be together, even if not in the full sense of the word.

And that did it. The smallest physical contact and Donghae had just completely lost it, pulling and kissing and needing Kibum like the only and the worst thing he'd ever needed. And Kibum had struggled at first but then, goddamn him, had seemed willing, his hands sneaking underneath Donghae's shirt, his mouth opening and his tongue making contact with Donghae's--

This was not doing Donghae any good, he realized grumpily, noticing he was about as turned on as he had been that day. He thought about masturbating but just then Hyukjae entered their cell, and Donghae was forced to forget about it.

Everything sucked, plain and simple.

**

She knew most of the steps already, and a part of him was sad about the fact. Shindong had hoped - secretly - that this wouldn't be over in a flash, a week or two or so. He still had some things to teach her, about posture and rhythm but the way she moved to cha cha cha was already pretty damn near perfect.

“Wow,” he said.

She smiled. “You're very good yourself.”

“I suppose,” he replied, shrugging.

It was awkward, his hand on her hip as they moved onto a different dance, tango or whatever have you. It was becoming glaringly obvious that he liked her, a lot, but what made him even more nervous was that she seemed to like him, and that puzzling revelation was something that made him almost mess up his steps while trying to teach her to get hers right.

She shouldn't like him. And not just because of the usual reason, the fact he was not worthy of her, and that she was so amazing, and he absolutely wasn't, but because of the other very important reasons, like the fact she was his superior, and he was in prison and she was his boss in here and all these other very rational and good reasons.

“Donghee,” she said suddenly, looking at him quizzically. “What are you thinking about?”

“Nothing,” he said with a small smile. “I just really like this song.”

“Are you okay?” Sungmin asked Kyuhyun after lockdown, their cell all dark and quiet now.

“I'm fine,” Kyuhyun insisted.

“I should've told you why the shower rules existed, it's like an open secret, everybody knows and wishes they didn't. If you had known the reason, you wouldn't have even considered going there.” Sungmin paused. “I'm really sorry.”

“It's not your fault, forget about it,” Kyuhyun said, moving over the edge of the bed to look at Sungmin.

“Still,” Sungmin said with his eyes closed. “I don't want you to be scarred for life or anything.”

“It's fine.” Kyuhyun stopped to think, and then asked the question he just .. wondered about. “Why do they do it there, though?”

“Because we're not allowed, you know, in cells. If the guards see, they come break us up.”

“Then how come Yesung and Ryeowook..?”

“Oh, they don't actually do it. They're gross because they're the schmoopiest pair you'll ever meet. Shindong knows 342 disgusting pet names they have for each other - that's why he hates sharing a cell with them. He says it's actually better when they're in the same bed, as that way they don't get so loud with the whole wishing each other goodnight thing.” Sungmin giggled. “You've heard them, Shindong says it's like two hours worth of 'no, you go to sleep first', 'no, you go to sleep first, silly', 'noooo I won't, you do it, muffcakes', 'I love youuu, go to sleep', 'nooo, you sleep first, and dream of me!'”

Kyuhyun laughed out loud at Sungmin's uncanny imitation. “So technically we're not allowed to sleep in the same bunk?”

“Technically, yes,” Sungmin replied.

There was a pause in the conversation. Kyuhyun swallowed nervously. This was going to be the most awkward moment in his life thus far, and he truly didn't want to ask but if it was a choice between not sleeping at all or asking Sungmin, he had to.

“So would it- I mean, I'm just wondering, because I've had some, um, geez, I'm not like a baby or anything but I just, would it be okay if I - aishhh, I, um,” he continued stumbling around the question, and he didn't dare look at Sungmin, even the dark, anymore, so he just flopped down onto his bunk and struggled.

“Kyuhyun,” Sungmin interrupted. “It's fine. Just get down here.”

Kyuhyun's heart beat wildly inside his rib cage. “Um, okay,” he just said and slowly, as quietly as possible, climbed down from his bunk and onto Sungmin's.

There wasn't much space and Kyuhyun settled next to Sungmin awkwardly, not wanting to touch Sungmin inappropriately but finding it next to impossible not to. Sungmin shifted on the bed to make more room for his new bunkmate and finally finding a comfortable position - trying very hard not to think about how he was maybe sort of very much spooning Sungmin in the process - Kyuhyun closed his eyes.

And just like that, he fell asleep.

It was weird. Heechul had gone to to Hyukjae because of necessity. If his otherwise best friend was busy being peculiar and lovelorn over some young hot shrink, and was from then on unwilling to listen to Heechul's witticisms or just unengaged to them. This sucked, and he missed the old Fishy, but there wasn't really anything he could do. Except maybe slap Dr Kim around a bit in his own sessions with the doctor for breaking Donghae's heart but even Heechul understood that Fishy had had it coming all along.

You couldn't fall in love with the staff, it just wasn't something people did. You could lust after them, sure, but falling in lust was completely different, more detached and less emotional, less involved and quite simply easier. Heechul still thought the warden was smoking hot - facts like that don't just change one day - even though he had sort of given up on him. But that was the thing - he didn't care that he couldn't bonk Warden Choi. He didn't cry about it.

“What are we going to do about him?” Hyukjae asked, staring pensively at Donghae sleeping on his individual bed.

“I don't know, why should we do anything?” Heechul said honestly. “He'll get over it.”

“But it looks like it'll take a while,” Hyukjae replied.

“So let it. Eventually he'll realize what a fucking idiot he was for falling in love with a member of the staff and just get over it.” He emphasized the insult, just a little angrily.

“Rella,” Hyukjae said with a sigh. “It's not like he could help it.”

“Wah wah whiiiine,” Heechul said. “I'm fucking sick of him moping around. It's not like he can lead a normal life and have a fantastic psychologist boyfriend. He's in friggin' prison.”

“Stop, he's depressed enough as it is,” Hyukjae said with a stern tone.

“Fuck,” Heechul concluded. “Fucking fucking fuck.”

“Fuck,” Hyukjae agreed.

Heechul chuckled. “We're quite good together, aren't we?”

“What do you mean?” Hyukjae asked, his expression worried suddenly.

“Fuck off, I don't mean it like that. As friends.”

Hyukjae nodded with a grin.

“Want to dump Kim Junsu and get it with me?”

“Screw you,” Hyukjae, frowning again. “I'm not together with Junsu.”

“Sweet. Mind if I date him?”

“Yes,” Hyukjae said immediately. “I mean, fuck, you're not going to. He's straight. We're straight.”

“So cute,” Heechul said sardonically.

“Sometimes I don't like being your friend, Kim Heechul,” Hyukjae said with a sigh and flopped down on his bunk.

“I always like being my friend,” Heechul just replied, and turned over to stare at Donghae's sleeping form. This thing wouldn't just fix itself, he knew.

Unfortunately.

“Come on in, Dr Kim,” Warden Choi replied at the knock of the door.

Dr Kim looked - in contrast to his usual, neat and tidy appearance - like a mess. He had panda eyes and there were wrinkles in his suit jacket. Little things that gave big things away. Siwon began to think maybe this guy hadn't been a good hire after all. Sure he had the credentials but if he couldn't handle the stress..

“Slept okay?” he asked casually, and it took a while for Dr Kim to even register the question.

“Hmm, yes, quite well thank you.”

“I called you in to discuss some upcoming parole hearings, hear your thoughts on the individual cases..” Siwon looked up at Kim Kibum. The young doctor put up a brave face. Maybe it was something minor affecting him right now. Reviewing the case files, it seemed everything was mostly in order - counselling for nearly all prisoners was gaining positive results all around.

“What cases in particular?”

“Park Yoochun of TVX5Q. Your report suggests he's pretty much ready to re-enter society.”

“Apart from his peculiar English that he keeps speaking to me with, he seems that way, yes.” Kibum nodded. “Any idea what the hell is a 'bling bling ball'? In all my studies I never encountered such a term..”

Siwon chuckled, opening the next file. “Shin Donghee, of S1J3..”

“Oh, he's very stable. He just seemed to be a case of bit badly focused energy but the shrink before me has done well in making him channel that energy in something positive and non-criminal.”

“Lee Donghae of S1J3..” Siwon raised his head and saw Kim Kibum swallow, visibly nervous. So this was the new psychologist's Achilles' heel. “Still seeing aliens?”

“No, or, well, so he claims. He seems very ..willing to recover,” Kibum said, making an effort to phrase things diplomatically.

Siwon frowned. “Is he stable, in your professional opinion?”

“Whe-when is his parole hearing?” Kibum asked.

“On the 2nd of next month.”

“So.. in two weeks.”

“Yes.”

“He'll be ready for it. If I can just, meet him often.” Kibum glanced at the Warden nervously.

“You're okay with him?” Siwon raised his eyebrows. “A guard told me that just this morning, he left your office looking rather annoyed.”

“A clash of personalities occasionally occurs,” Kibum explained awkwardly. “We'll be fine.”

“We can get him another shrink, it's not a huge problem as Seoul is so close by.. You don't have to be burdened by this, Dr Kim.”

“No!” Kibum said, flushing slightly. “He wants, uhh, he is willing to work with me. For now. I'll get him ready for the parole hearing.”

“And you're sure this is fine?” Siwon asked. Sometimes employees puzzled him. He only wanted their best, and yet their decisions were completely irrational in every way. Here, it was plain and obvious that the case of Lee Donghae bothered Dr Kim Kibum for reasons Siwon couldn't quite figure out himself. And yet, here he was, insisting to still continue working with the difficult patient. Perfectionist, maybe, Siwon thought. Never willing to admit they can't do everything.

“It's fine. Trust me, you'll see results,” Dr Kim said determinedly but as he spoke, Siwon could see his uncomfort.

“Very well. Go get some lunch now,” Siwon finally said, giving in and allowing Dr Kim to leave.

Sometimes he felt like he worked in the loony bin, Choi Siwon thought idly, and returned reluctantly to the stack of papers on his desk that said, “Prisoner Transfers - FT Island”. Another fun day of paper work ahead, he thought grimly and took a sip of his coffee.

a/n: It's shorter than the last chapter, it's MUCH shorter than the next one, it's definitely one of those lame in-between chapters where nothing amazing happens but is needed - or so I feel anyway.

Okay, maybe it just feels like that because tada, no KiHae therapy. :P You do get Donghae's side of their last session.

But there's ShinBoa and like omfg - actual plot! Parole! Excitement. KyuMin snuggling. I don't know.

Oh, and all these references - FT Island, Kangta, Ara - are not going to come back. They're just that, references. I couldn't work in FTI if I wanted to since I don't know them at all. Sorrryy.

Next chapter is KiHae and HyukSu and ..um you'll see then. ;)
