The first time John went back to the Roadhouse after returning Bill's personal effects, he thought he saw something flicker out the corner of his eye. He swiftly turned, but nothing was there.

He told Ellen, but she just glared.

He dreams of Bill, sometimes, dark and sad dreams where everything goes exactly as it did that night. In the dream, he knows everything that will come, but can't change it.

Bill still dies, bleeding out in John's arms, until John puts the gun to his head and pulls the trigger.

He wakes up with Bill's sobs echoing in his ears, and his own voice crying, "Billy!"

After getting captured by Azazel and his spawn, while locked inside his own head, John thinks about Bill. About that night. How he got one of his friends killed.
