I am a gentleman, didn't I

"The fix is in. It remains only to be seen what it's been traded for. To get to this stage, anyone wanting to be a referee has had to learn to enjoy the special flavor of pressure-group dick. The question is: will the referees stagger off ice with lungs half full of steaming Winnipeg semen? Or will they merely be licking their lips ( Read more... )

I have been pretty good in my Catholicism, as it has gotten me through some tough times. I went to a Jesuit college, and they helped me immensely in preparing for graduate school through rigorous expectations.

It was mentioned at work by some Wayward Catholics regarding Lenten Fridays, and they said the same thing. They seldom go to Church, but they do not eat meat on Fridays. Things parents grill into you from birth! In my house growing up, my mother never prepared meat on any Fridays and Sunday morning Mass was already followed by bagels for breakfast.

I was raised Catholic and I'll probably die Catholic-- I see it as more of a cultural thing than a belief system I actually hold, since I disagree with several of the fundamentals. But there's also parts of it that inspire me and that I take great comfort in, so, you know. Cafeteria Catholic, that's me.

Shit, even at college IO managed to stick to the no-meat thing! Heh. Interesting to hear how other people were raised with it.

I'm fascinated by all the rituals and trappings of Catholicism. It's too bad that there's no way we'd line up on abortion/gay rights/etc.
Was the documentary good enough to rec with a title? :)
Sephiroth, "sacrifice".
Mmmm, bacon.....

It is a rather gaudy religion, yup. I think one can be interested by the rites and rituals and still completely disagree with the stance of certain issues, like you list. I dislike having to use pro-life and pro-choice titles and all, because I think there are insulting or inaccurate connotations any way you go, but much as I don't think I could go through with an abortion, I don't see it as my right to forbid anyone else from it. So, yeah, I'm with you on that ( ... )

I still always capitalise 'God' as well (unless I'm referring to the word as in the multiple way like the Angient Egyptian gods). I was never really Christian but I went to a Church of England school and they sure do hammer these things into you.

Also, nuns with rulers can't hurt you if you're on a mission from God. ;D

Okay, characters ... I'm going to have to go with Reno, Zack, and Hi-Jinks. Because I freaking love the silliness you write with Reno and Zack.

Shit, man, I still have traumatic dreams of nuns throwing chalkboard erasers at me. My high school nuns didn't fuck around.

I ended up filling out a chunk from a body swap fic. Kinda got too big for one comment.

"…and then, bam. We were like this," Zack finished ( ... )

"Look, just, just…" Cloud took a deep breath. "Please don't break my body before I can get back into it."

"It's in excellent hands, little buddy," Zack said, though the words were slightly undermined by the way he had to jump in order to slap Cloud on the shoulder. "Don't you worry about a thing. I'm sure once we get that materia back, we can just make this all go away. I mean, if we can get it back."

"Right," Sephiroth said. "No one panic." He took a deep breath. "I will go get the material. Is it still in Hojo's lab?"

"Not… in a manner of speaking," Zack said carefully. "You see, Reno was there too…"

"You were with Reno. You let Reno touch-" Sephiroth said, and then broke off abruptly because Cloud was visibly quaking and Zack was shamelessly hiding behind him again. "The fact you are in Cloud's body and only the fact you are in Cloud's body is the sole thing keeping me from either killing you or letting you suffer ( ... )

Ha, that's funny. I kind of love lent because it's pretty much the only time in Ohio that fish is widely available...even if only in the fried variety. But I'll take what I can get.

I think the only bit of Catholicism I have left is crippling guilt. Though I will grant them that they got some of the best art. And being Irish-American there's come cultural Catholicism there. One of my favorite bits bu Irish comedian Dara O'Briain is where he talks about being an atheist and how everyone back home says "Yes, but are you a Catholic athiest or a Protestant atheist?"

I don't really mind Lent. I just think it's funny that despite my widely known love of bacon and other meats, I still can't bring myself to break that last rite. Which I don't mind, anyway; it's sort of a comforting thing.

Oh, I got the guilt still. I don't think any Catholic ever truly shakes it. I still think it's hilarious that most ex-Catholics go straight to paganism, given the fact the religions are so similar with their love of rite and ritual and props. Costumes, yo.

No sentence fic?

Damn, I totally forgot about the sentence fic bit. Ok, well, I'm not even sure what fandoms we share so I'm gonna go with...

Pope fic, pick your favorite pontiff. And something about food. (Trufax, the beaver at least at one point was classified a fish to make it Lent Friendly. So the Pope can totally eat beaver on Fridays)
