I am a gentleman, didn't I

"The fix is in. It remains only to be seen what it's been traded for. To get to this stage, anyone wanting to be a referee has had to learn to enjoy the special flavor of pressure-group dick. The question is: will the referees stagger off ice with lungs half full of steaming Winnipeg semen? Or will they merely be licking their lips ( Read more... )

Okay, this "no eating before Mass" thing is not something I have heard of before...though we *did* always go Sunday morning and only eat breakfast afterwards, I kind of thought it was always because we were in a hurry. Huh. Do you know what the roots are with that?

Sha-zam. See near the very end. Has to do with the Eucharist, since we're all about the transubstantiation.

Of course, after the third time I flopped because of low blood sugar, my parents were pretty much, "Have you had some juice? Eat some toast."

So what you're telling me is they gave up on you experiencing the purity of receiving the Lord into your body because of some minor "low sugar*" difficulties? Did your parents not care about your immortal soul?!? I FEEL FAINT.

*this was clearly either faked, or all mental. Put your mind to it, Thorne! Don't you recall the famous Catholic hymn, "We Shall Overcome"? What they were overcoming, I don't recall - it clearly wasn't important enough for me to remember - but I'm positive it was Catholicism-related. Ish.

Meh, I think they wanted to cut down on the church jumping the gun and calling the ambulance. In retrospect, I was lucky they didn't try to jam last rites down my throat!

I OVERCAME MANY THINGS, THE LEAST OF WHICH WAS NOT HAVING TO WEAR DAMN PANTYHOSE TO CHURCH! Heh.

...want fic? Still feeling the meme, a bit.

What about myocardial perfusion? (Haha, bet nobody else asks you about that part of your LJ entry.)

I actually forgot it was Lent until one of the techs mentioned no-meat meals yesterday. I was like, "You're a vegetarian unwillingly?"

Quantitative myocardial perfusion imaging using rapid kVp switch dual-energy CT. ...nope, usually not!

Oh, I know, it's like that Simpsons episode.

"Catholics can be a peculiar bunch. No birth control, no meat on Friday..."

"No meat!? What do they eat? Lightbulbs?"

Also, I forgot to ask if you wanted fic, because I kinda feel like writing some swimming. BUT ONLY IF YOU WANT.

I dooooo want fic! I always want swimmer fic! Maybe something about Michael's recent Sports Illustrated pictorial? Or those new (well, new to me) French swimmers who are so easy on the eyes? I love it alllll. Bonus points if you somehow work in Lent.

I have always been fascinated with the trappings of Catholicism, probably because they don't seem that far removed from Ancient Egyptian rites or the like. At least, they seem that way to a little unbaptised heathen girl raised by lapsed Baptists.

In high school we were required to attend church service, and I always attentded Catholic mass because a) my friends went and b) it was the earliest service, which meant we were back on capmus first and first to get in line for delicious Sunday brunch.

They do! As Twig said, "Man, Catholicism and voodoo kind of go great together. Like peanut butter and chocolate."

That is an excellent and pragmatic way of choosing a service. Plus, you know, actual wine. Blood. You know what I mean.

I always had a weird time explaining to my Catholic schoolmates why I went to a Baptist youth camp, though. The Baptists totally have more fun songs.

Man, I really need to be better about reading LJ. I was at that Winnipeg game, and it was awesome for two periods, and a disaster afterwards. But! There was a singsongy Thrashers chant! It wasn't the whole arena, but it started somewhere in the 400s and floated down to where we were sitting in 109. I was so proud. I guess it didn't come through on the TV?

And the Ovi chants were spontaneous and made of pure love. Too bad he's decided to stop playing like his ass is on fire. It would be nice if he remembered how now to, you know, get us into the playoffs, and maybe make some noise, once there.

Oops, this comment was for your other post about the Thrashets game in DC. That one in Winnipeg was seriously rage inducing for the refs and their clear fear of the crowd. Also, I got bitched at on Japers' Rink's GDT by a Jets fan for calling Jets fans classless (I didn't call that fan in particular classless, mind you, just the obnoxious assholes who fill the barn), on a Caps blog's GDT! So I defended myself heartily, and then, after the game, when in a blind rage, I called that fanbase bullying thugs who managed to intimidate NHL refs into ignoring blatant and dangerous penalties, I got more shit from the moderator (not that I had broken any rule or was even any more out of line than anyone else ( ... )

Oh, no worries. Hey, you're on Japers Rink? Awesome! What's your username? I'm always lurking there on GDTs, because I find it much easier than being on ontd_pucking; not that pucking isn't nice, but I'd rather be surrounded by fans of my own team where I can yell and not have to worry about anyone else's feelings. (There's been this one person who keeps using Craps and Crapitals on pucking, which is why I've sort of given the place a wide berth of late, for fear I'm going to try and reach through my screen and punch them ( ... )

I'm Aliceanna at the Rink. You shouldn't just lurk! There are many friendly folks--at least right when the GDT starts, before anyone has a chance to be suicidal and all the sane people leave for the comfort of their poison of choice. Also, I love how woman-friendly it is. Hell, I think the ratio may even be tilted toward the female. I have learned a ton there. I even occasionally post in the Daily Clips comments, now (though seldom), without fear of making stupid n00b mistakes (of course, I totally have, but they were pretty forgiving). There are some posters I can't stand, but, as you say, it's a place filled with smart, friendly people who love hockey and the Caps, and that's pretty awesome ( ... )
