I agree. I wanted to badly to like this poem, too. It seems she made a conscious effort to freshen up some potential clichés -- but certainly not all.

Her performances are so powerful. I got to see her about a month ago and it was amazing.
I swear she could probably read the back of a cereal box to me and I'd call it gospel.

God, i know. I saw her on St. Patrick's day and she was just outstanding. Did you see her perform "ashes" ?

I didn't like the baseball part, but a lot of the lines were really magic (I loved the icicles thing!), and I guess she managed to tie it together in the end. I get the sense it might have worked nicely as a lot of smaller poems, too.
