Rikku had a plan. Sneak in, steal a snack, sit around, and wait for Kimi to notice that she was in there. The first steps went off without a hitch: it was simple to get in there and find a few cookies to munch on while she sat on a counter and waited.

Now, to see how badly he'd flail this time...

Watanuki had been organizing the spice cabinet when she came in; surrounded by the smells of the little jars around him and the general clatter of putting them in order, he didn't notice her presence until he ducked out of the cabinet, saw her from the corner of his eye, jumped, and cracked his head on the shelf above him.

"Rikk-- OW!" He held one hand to his head and pointed furiously at her with the other, trying to ignore what he was sure would soon be a truly spectacular lump. "What are you doing?! Get off that counter! I just cleaned it! And put those down! I just made them!"

She just giggled, taking a huge bite of cookie. "I didn't track anything in, and of course you just made them. Why do you think I stole some?"

"But you're sitting on the counter! It's like-- like taking a giant pile of dirty clothes and just leaving them there!" In his eyes, standing on the counter was about the only thing worse she could do. "And those cookies are not for public consumption!" Seriously, how long had she known him?!

Milk's plan was perfect. Honed over years spent dodging the Kitchen Tyrant's wrath; tested under lesser, more lenient cooks in his absence; absolutely guaranteed to net her the baking chocolate at the front of the third shelf in the pantry by the door.

She had popped into her original form, grabbed an innocuous-looking box that was just her size, and slipped into the kitchen, stopping whenever she heard any sign of movement. Nothing to see here. Just a box of peaches. Really.

She was forgetting that in a Watanuki-run kitchen, boxes were not left on the floor. Ever. When Watanuki turned and saw it, his eyes narrowed in suspicion - either someone had already been here and he had somehow missed them, or...

He stalked over to the box, and picked it up in one decisive motion. "...I should have known."

"Miru!" Deprived of her hiding spot, Milk made a break for it in the direction of the pantry. "You ruined my perfect plan ~miru!"

Watanuki lunged forward, ending up sprawled full-length on the floor but with a hand around Milk's foot. "Don't you go near that pantry! You think I wouldn't see through that?!"

Justin had spent a while looking around for both the current and past food supply inventory sheets, and anything else that might be of interest to the new cook, before settling in to do his other work for the day.

From their brief network interaction, he'd gotten the impression that Watanuki was likely to be here sooner rather than later, and want all the information he could get his hands on.

His impression was correct. Watanuki was used to working with the Amestris's supply; the Convoy's, while nothing to scoff at, was much lighter on the exotic fare that the Amestris had found no trouble procuring at any season of the year. Not a bad thing, but a difference he needed to learn to keep track of as soon as possible.

He knocked on the door to the records room somewhat hesitantly; though the sign on the door told him it was the right place, he still didn't know most people on this shop terribly well, and hoped he wasn't disturbing the records keepers on their off hours or interrupting something important.

Justin was the only record keeper the Convoy currently had, and - unlike Watanuki - he didn't mind being disturbed at any hour of the day. If he was in the records room, he was fair game. None of the work was difficult enough to require much of his concentration, anyway.

"Come in!" he called out at the knock.

Watanuki entered, nodding a greeting to Justin as he opened the door. "Good afternoon," he said. "I'm Kimihiro Watanuki - we spoke on the network a few days ago. If it's not too much trouble, could I have a look at the kitchen inventories...?"

Bumblebee honestly had no functional use for the ship's kitchen, being wholly unable to consume anything there. Still, the process of combining organic materials, with or without then subjecting the mixture to heat of one kind or another - and there were so many!...boiling, baking, frying - was endlessly fascinating to him. That fascination led him to the kitchen now and then just to see what the cooks were up to and enjoy the smells wafting from whatever they were doing ( ... )

Well. If there was one thing on Reial Watanuki had not been expecting to see.

He froze for a second when he turned around at the sound of knocking (people on this ship knocked? Really?)-- either someone had just left their large toy automaton here and run away, or it had just--

Oh.

He remember his manners when Bumblebee spoke. Startling though he may have been, it was just rude to leave him hanging. Even if he hadn't concealed his open staring very well. "Er-- hello!" he said, backing out of the cupboard completely and finding his way to his feet. "Sorry! I was just-- I mean, I heard you, I'm just-- I, er-- have we been introduced?"

No, he didn't think they had. He would have remembered this.

Bumblebee was pretty sure the human would have remembered too.

The little scout couldn't help but laugh, tossing up his hands good-naturedly. "No, I'm probably the one who should be apologizing. I know I'm . . . um, unusual. To put it mildly. And no, we haven't. I'm called Bumblebee." He stepped forward with the last, offering his hand. Watanuki would find the metal a bit pliant and surprisingly warm - not by much, just noticeably above room temperature.

Watanuki took the proffered hand-- and he was surprised at the warmth of it. He'd spoken with the captain a few times but had never had cause to touch one of his... kind before. "I'm Kimihiro Watanuki. It's a pleasure. I'm very sorry-- I didn't mean to be rude." Bumblebee was unusual, sure, but who was he to judge what was unusual? The magitech eye screwed to his face and the ring on his finger spoke for his own differences clearly enough.

Gaara hadn't been to the Convoy's kitchen very many times. What with having a weaker-than-average appetite, and spending most of his time holed up in his room, he just never got around to it. He saw no reason to go into the kitchens randomly. Not when he could stay in his nice, dimly lit room.

But, right now, Gaara was hungry. And the kitchen had food.

The little redhead wandered into the (at that moment) empty kitchen with relative ease. Hefting the massive, sand-filled gourd from his back and setting it down on the floor, Gaara searched out an apple, pulled up a stool and started to eat. Perfectly calm.

He'd only gone out for a moment. Really. He'd needed to retrieve a box from the hold. He'd been gone maybe five minutes total. And in that time, someone had walked in, deposited their... large squash-like thing in the center of his floor, and stolen food from right under his nose.

Watanuki stormed in like an avenging hurricane, all but blowing the door shut in his wake. One could almost imagine the floor shaking beneath his feet, or fire spewing from his mouth. "What are you doing?!" he demanded, somehow contriving to wave an arm accusingly and support the box with the other. "Put that down! Right now! Do you not watch the networks at all?! Did you somehow miss that what you are doing is forbidden?!"

The storm that was Watanuki had so completely destroyed the silence of the kitchen that it was almost physically jarring to the redhead. And, for the record, his gourd was not in the middle of the floor, it was right next to his stool, leaning up against the counter.

"I'm eating." Gaara replied, regarding the other with his usual blank intensity, totally unfazed by the show of anger. Though the last thing the cook had said made him contemplate the half-eaten fruit in his hand for a few seconds before taking another bite. "But I'm hungry." And he kept right on eating.

His calmness only served to set Watanuki off further. "Hungry? Hungry? What excuse is that to break a rule I expressly set down?!" He dropped the box on the counter with a decisive thunk and commenced to windmill both arms. "Did you eat nothing at lunch?!"
