Kanda stood at the railing looking out over the land below, he'd been resting for a while but had needed some fresh air. Hence why he was outside on deck enjoying the fresh air.

He was wearing his black leather boots, white shirt and some black pants, a long black jacket draped over his shoulders. He looked quite tired, glancing over his shoulder when he heard someone step onto the deck close by.

This person was obviously new to the ship, he didn't recognise him.

Rufus stepped out on the main deck, and immediately squinted in the brighter light outside. He blinked a few times, waiting for his vision to adjust, and then looked around. One person nearby, who glanced over when he stepped out. Crew, perhaps?

He walked over and leaned on the rail next to the other man, returning the look. "Nice view from up here," he said casually.

"yeah...." said Kanda sighing, there went his peace and quiet. He remained where he was though, he stil hadn't had enough of the fresh air.

Kanda remained focused on the scenery watching it slip underneath the ship, he sighed deeply leaning down to rest his chin on his arm. Then glanced at the man beside him.

"... Haven't seen you before," said Kanda not really making it a question.

"I arrived this morning. Bit of a scheduling mix up." Rufus made a dismissive gesture. The logistics had been an annoyance, even if it got sorted in the end. He contemplated the view in silence for a few minutes. There was always a certain exhilaration in being so high up, the slight tug of the wind - although maybe one best savoured when it was a little cloudier out.

He finally glanced back over at his quiet companion. "Are you crew here? Or a fellow passenger?"

Well, all the guns checked out fine, and Hinamori just had one more to go. It hadn't taken that long, either, so once she was done giving the last one a look-over, she'd have a lot of free time on her hands. Of course, that posed the question of what to do with the rest of the day... maybe she could have a late lunch or something.

Rufus stepped onto the gun deck, glancing around. He wasn't entirely sure he was supposed to be down here, but so far nobody had tried to stop him. And he had to admit a certain amount of curiosity in seeing the ship's weaponry himself.

Everything checked out fine on the last gun, thankfully. Now Hinamori could-...huh. She didn't think she'd seen that man before. Well, she didn't have any problem with people wandering onto the gun deck, so...

"Oh, hey!" she said chipperly. "Are you new here?"

Rufus gave the young woman a somewhat amused smile. "Fairly obvious, I suppose. I just boarded this morning." He walked over to one of the guns to have a closer look, and then glanced over at her. "You work here, I assume?"

It was nice to be out on deck. The weather was fair and the ghost was gone. Somehow, even after all this time it was odd to not feel as though at any moment a piece of the ship would come out and attack.

Clad in just his dark vest, white shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows, and dark pants tucked neatly in black boots that rose to his knees, he leaned against the railing. He sighed softly as he thought about days, even years past, as he was wont to do at times like these. With nothing else to distract him, all he could do was think.

Rufus glanced out over the main deck from just past the doors. He had come by earlier of course, and run into that very reserved pilot, but it was always worth another sweep. Particularly as it was a bit less sunny out now.

The other man on the deck appeared to have not noticed him - it seemed that with things relatively calm, this was the refuge of the ship's loners. He took a spot at the railing near the stranger, but opted to remain quiet for the moment, rather than interrupt the other's thoughts.

Gwendal didn't notice the man until he had taken a spot near him at the railing. He looked over and noticed that he had not seen this man before. Had he missed something over the journals or perhaps this man was actually a passenger and not a member of the crew?

Either way, Gwendal gave a light nod. "Good evening."

Rufus gave the other man a small, polite smile. "Good evening to you as well." There was a short silence, before Rufus remarked casually, "It seems like the main deck is very popular with people who prefer privacy; I keep bumping into them." There was a hint of amusement in his voice.

Somewhere between the engine room and living quarters flyfrommyself November 24 2009, 00:43:47 UTC
A small, lithe figure made its way through the halls, aiming for the common showers on the level of the living quarters. Fresh from the repairs in the engine room, the young man was dressed simply in a work shirt, jeans, steel-toed boots . . . and a great deal of dirt and grime. Oil had dripped into distinctive red-black hair, matting a section of the thick, unruly locks and staining a length of lightning-blond bangs. Grease smeared his face here and there and coated his hands and arms to the elbows like uneven, patchwork ladies' evening gloves. He'd been exceedingly clumsy, much to his chagrin, but it could hardly be helped - he was on only light duty for the time being, his dominant arm still healing from the fractures he'd taken fighting the ghost, and he was not ambidextrous. Still, it felt good to be back to work, to be doing something again, so he little begrudged the mess he'd made of himself, taking it as proof of his productivity ( ... )

Rufus almost managed to pass the crewman by - it had been a long day, and he was more than ready to return to his room and finally sit down. All of the standing and walking he'd been doing was starting to make his knees act up. Something about the smaller man's appearance seemed familiar, though, and he slowed slightly as he approached him, frowning slightly in concentration as he tried to dig up the memory.

And then it clicked - how could he ever forget that crazy hair, even if it was splattered with grease right now? Still, he was supposed to be dead - that alone was enough to put a note of reserved caution in his voice. "...Atem?"

(OOC: Cool for Rufus to know him by his actual name, I hope?)

(OOC: Yep, cool! It's the only name he'd know yet, so... XD)

Yami froze, stiff with alarm at the unexpected sound of his given name. Who-?! He looked up to meet light blue eyes in a pale face, and he took a step back. "R-rufus?! Rufus Shinra?" Though he didn't really mean it quite so, his tone of voice was a fairly clear 'what the hell are you doing here?'.

Perhaps he shouldn't have been so surprised - the Silvana did take passengers of all kinds - but it had been a long day.

Well, looked like he had been right. Very interesting. He was looking forward to hearing the explanation behind this. "That would be my name, yes," Rufus replied evenly. "I must say, I hadn't expected to see you here." From Atem's expression, he hadn't either. Well, surprises weren't always a bad thing.

On the highest deck, where he'd once nearly fallen to his death in a sparring match, Kira practiced his swordwork, blending formal maneuvers from his Academy days with those that developed from instinct. The repaired guard rail eliminated the element of danger, but the memory of it was still strong enough to give him that extra push.

Imaginary opponents coaxed a strong performance out of him, but the young man was not so invested in the scenario that he wouldn't notice a person's approach. One had to be vigilant in combat, after all.

Rufus stopped a respectful distance away from the swordsman to watch. It wasn't a talent he had, but it was one he could admire anyway - he understood the drive behind the sharp, precise motions of the sword, the push towards perfection. He knew enough about swordplay to tell that the man was well-trained, and there was always something satisfying in watching someone who knew his art practice it.

He caught the other man's eye with a glace, and gave him a polite smile. "Don't mind me."

(OOC: Kira would have been 14-15 last time Rufus saw him in person, so he hasn't recognized him - feel free to go the other way, though, Rufus hasn't changed a whole lot since 17)

"That's quite alright." Kira sheathed Wabisuke after the maneuver's completion. Being observed didn't bother him, but he'd never seen this man aboard before. A break couldn't do much harm. "You're... one of the new passengers, correct?"

With Kira's thoughts far from the past, the sense of familiarity never occurred to him. Of course, with an exchange of names, that was bound to change.

Rufus nodded in response to the question - not exactly a hard guess, there. He offered a hand. "Rufus Shinra. You're quite good, you know." For once, the compliment was a genuine one - and there was something about the other man that seemed familiar, niggling at the back of his mind. Frustrating - and increasingly common lately. Some society function, perhaps - he'd never bothered learning the names of half the people there, and that went doubly for the handful he'd make it to in the last half a year.
