Characters: Rufus and anyone who wants to say hello Content: A bit of exploring and introductions Setting: Here and there on the Silvana Time: Shortly after Rufus's first journal post
Well, all the guns checked out fine, and Hinamori just had one more to go. It hadn't taken that long, either, so once she was done giving the last one a look-over, she'd have a lot of free time on her hands. Of course, that posed the question of what to do with the rest of the day... maybe she could have a late lunch or something.
Rufus stepped onto the gun deck, glancing around. He wasn't entirely sure he was supposed to be down here, but so far nobody had tried to stop him. And he had to admit a certain amount of curiosity in seeing the ship's weaponry himself.
Everything checked out fine on the last gun, thankfully. Now Hinamori could-...huh. She didn't think she'd seen that man before. Well, she didn't have any problem with people wandering onto the gun deck, so...
"Oh, hey!" she said chipperly. "Are you new here?"
Rufus gave the young woman a somewhat amused smile. "Fairly obvious, I suppose. I just boarded this morning." He walked over to one of the guns to have a closer look, and then glanced over at her. "You work here, I assume?"
"Ahhh, well, I wasn't sure if I just never met you or... you know," said Hinamori. There were definitely people on the ship who she still didn't know too well, and she could've seen him and not remembered, so... but at least it was an accurate assumption this time.
"No, we've never met - I'm certain I'd remember if we have." Just the barest hint of a compliment there - subtlety was best when dealing with unknowns. He extended a hand with a smile. "I'm Rufus Shinra. Just a passenger for the moment."
"I'm working on it at the moment." He dropped his hand again. People here were a little reserved with names - though with this one, it seemed to be flightiness more than any real attempt to keep a secret. "Care to show me around your domain, Ms...?"
Rufus gave a small, elegant shrug. "What ever you'd like to show me. I'm always interested in learning more about the ship's defense. Particularly as I'm likely to be onboard for a while." Firearms were something of an interest to him - even if he was more familiar with the smaller varieties.
"Okay!" said Hinamori with a cheerful nod. "Anyway... I'm sort of new to these, so I don't know as much about them as I could, but I've been here long enough that I've picked a few things up," she said, walking over to her usual position. This was actually true. She could at least hit the broad side of a barn now-although she had no idea whether or not she'd be able to hit a moving target when the time came.
"Still more than me," Rufus replied, amused. The eager ones were always the most fun - unless that eagerness was directed at getting him to do something. That could get a bit annoying. "I've only dealt with handheld firearms."
"Ah, well... I haven't dealt with those myself," said Hinamori, cocking her head slightly. "I'm pretty familiar with gunpowder because I've worked with it before, but not... handguns or anything like that."
"They require a certain amount of practice - though I suspect your guns here are no different," Rufus said, gesturing at the larger weapons. "Skill with firearms is a very satisfying feeling, I find.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the case," said Hinamori with a nod. "They make it sound really easy in the radio dramas, but I know you really can't just pick up a gun and expect to know how to use it well right off the bat."
She paused. "I... don't really know about firearms, but I'm good at magic? So I can sort of relate, just... from a different perspective."
"You might manage at point blank range, but being a good shot takes practice," Rufus agreed. Her next statement genuinely piqued his interest, however. He had been making small talk, so far, but this was intriguing. "What sort of magic, if I may ask? It's not a subject I have a great deal of familiarity with." He was careful to keep his voice casual - interested, but not too interested.

"Anyway, it's nice to meet you, Mr. Shinra. Have you figured out your way around the ship, or...?"

"Anyway, sure. Is there anything in particular you'd like to see? I mean, it's mostly just. Guns."
