Its for the name of epic shounen. :D mayovice October 20 2009, 09:24:21 UTC
It didn't take long before Hijikata was up on the top deck of the Victoria II, and even shorter than that before he was starting to bark out orders towards the crew members who were doing nothing but running around and doing nothing but being utterly useless annoyances to everyone else.

"You there, go aid the passengers! And you, seaman! Go help with the mechanics in stabilizing the ship!" Honestly, it wasn't as if this was the first battle this vessel had been in - granted, the crew did have a very high turnover rate but still... okay, maybe that could help out with the reason why a good part of the crew was just going around being totally lost. But goddamnit, the idiots could have some fucking initiative at the very least! This was a military ship, not a place to babysit assholes!

The first wave of pirates from the 4423 has made themselves known by now, and there were of those who were (foolishly) brave enough to try and attack him the moment he was spotted. Hijikata wasted no time in drawing out his sword, countering and ( ... )

Phoenix took another step back for good measure. "I know," he said.

He would stay out of Hijikata's fight. Trying to ignore the smell of blood and gunpowder, Phoenix focused on keeping his head clear and his eyes open for anyone coming at him with a sword, or any pistol barrels pointed his way. He knew he was an easy target.

Somehow... he couldn't help but feel a little insulted that they were talking so easily while he was standing right there. What was he, invisible? Or were they just retarded? At least Hijikata was looking at him now, but even when he did, he talked. Well, Shinji couldn't deny that he faced idiots daily, so this was really no different.

He skillfully flipped his blade around in his fingers like a baton, swinging it around almost playfully. "Spoken like a true hero, Mr. Fancy Uniform. But how're you gonna protect your boyfriend here--" The sword stopped and pointed right at Phoenix. "When your attention's on me?"

To that Hijikata only tightened his jaw and took two steps to the side, so that now Shinji's sword was pointing at him instead of the reporter. His eyes were steady and unfaltering as he faced the pirate, his pride on the line as he got into stance and prepared himself for the fight that was to come.

"Its by duty to protect those on this ship," he started, "And I'm not going to let assholes like you stop me." Saying that, he swiftly lunged out into another attack once more with his blade out, aiming for an attack at the side with not the intention to strike, but to lead Shinji further away so that the battle could go on further away from the passenger in order to prevent any necessary danger from happening.

B-boyfriend?! Phoenix sweatdropped. He would have argued, but....he had a distinct feeling that now was not the time, and it would only make things worse, anyway, and he didn't particularly want to talk when there was a sword pointed at him. His hand tightened on his gun --

--then Hijikata stepped in. Phoenix kept his mouth shut and watched the fight, wishing very much that he had been as lucky as the other passenger. Why was it always him who got caught up in these messes?

Because sometimes when you charged head first into trouble, you had a tendency to get stuck in it. Like a fly getting caught in a web because it didn't know it'd actually get glued to its fibres.

There really was no way to explain to Hijikata that Shinji had no intention of harming Phoenix, since the point would've been moot and probably ignored, so all the focus on was bringing his sword up and blocking the swing. He flipped the blade around in his hands with relative ease, their swords crashing against each other once again in a loud scrape of metal. He could fight him all he wanted, but the blond's goal was to get past Hijikata, not to engage in yet another battle with someone who looked completely unarmed. Of course, he had no idea that the reporter had a gun; he couldn't exactly see through clothing, fortunately.

But Shinji did completely remove his attention from Phoenix to concentrate on the fight at hand, idly wondering just how long it would take to incapacitate him.

Unlike Shinji, Hijikata did not have the privilege of being able to wholly redirect his attention away from the battle - one being because the reporter was still in danger since this wasn't the only battle that was taking place, and the second because he didn't know that the blonde had no intention of attacking the spiky-haired man. The boatswain had always been the somewhat paranoid kind (due to his family background, not that he wanted to admit that anytime soon) and so couldn't allow himself to fully concentrate in his battle ( ... )

Lucky news for Hijikata, then, that Shinji wasn't going to use magic until he was pushed to the very brink of his restraint, and that would probably take a lot given the circumstances and predicaments he was currently facing, being here on the Victoria II. It was a military ship, for crying out loud-- nevermind the danger of getting attacked by people coming at him; he was already in danger by being on a military vessel at all, where people could recognize him or Kensei.

He noted the swing coming at his knees and swung his sword around to counter the attack, his blade slamming low and hard into the other man's. The lithe blond found an opening in that split second after their swords clashed, and he brought his foot down on Hijikata's blade about halfway to stop him from moving it away immediately.

"How 'bout if I asked ya t'move outta the way? Would y'let me go by?"

It was most probably a good thing then for Hijikata join the navy without much knowledge about the whole thing regarding Shinji and the company - he had been assigned to the Victoria II ever since the beginning and paid little attention to the affairs of the military, so he was pretty much in the dark. For him, Shinji was just another pirate and nothing more.

Hijikata swore mentally as the blonde avoided his attack, gritting his teeth as his arm shook from the force that the blades clashed against each other. He just had enough time to turn around and get a stable stance before the other blocked his blade with his own, and for a moment he felt his arm shaking just slightly from the effort.

His eyes narrowed, sweat running down his jaw as he eyed the other with evident distaste on his features before he responded in a harsh, hoarse voice. "The only way you'll pass will be over my dead body." It was his duty to defend the ship, and he'd damn well do it.

Shinji increased the pressure on both his sword and his foot, pressing down as if with the intention to break the sword, even though it was unlikely that he could with brute force alone. He was strong, almost scarily so given his frame, but he couldn't snap blades in half, much to his chagrin. It would've made things too easy.

"That can be arranged," he shot back, a smirk growing over his lips despite the dishonesty of his promise. This guy was a nuisance, but he didn't want to kill him. And if agreeing was the only way to get him to move, then he'd gladly play along.

The boatswain gritted his teeth as Shinji pressed down on him, his arm shaking just slightly from the strength used to keep the sword down against his at bay. It was seriously quite annoying how the blonde could be so strong despite his lanky looks... just another reason to make him all the more frustrated. The damned magic users were a serious pain in the butt at times - not that he had any grudge against them. Magic was alright, but when against him it was the biggest pain in the neck.

Without wasting time to speak, Hijikata twisted his sword so that the edge met against the flat of Shinji's blade, and the swords ran against each other in a flurry of sparks. The samurai snarled once ha managed to put distance between them, jaw set in a thin line as he kept his gaze down at Shinji, this time waiting for the blonde to make the first move.

lmfao KB, he was stepping on Rou's sword, but it's okay pharaohking October 27 2009, 05:14:24 UTC

He had to quickly draw his leg back to avoid his foot getting lopped off, and when he finally got it back on the ground and they'd been separated, he watched the boatswain with interest. The guy seemed to know how to fight, that much was obvious, but he was more of the swing-a-sword-around-crazily-and-hope-it-hits-something type -- or so it appeared. Nevertheless, he had no idea what Hijikata had up his sleeves, if there even was anything, so Shinji had to be on his guard.

The taller boy bit back a remark, his smile slowly disappearing as he dashed forward, sword down at his side before he swung it up diagonally, aiming for the guy's chest.

Shinji was almost right on that - Hijikata never had an opportunity to learn formal swordsmanship when he was young, only picking it up proper when he was taken in under Kondo's wing. And even by then, the man was already roughened up through the countless battles he was forced to fight in from living out in the streets of Solare. He knew his style was unrefined, not holding to any standards - it was simply a hack-n'-slash killing method. But that was the beauty of this style - it was simple, easily adaptable and when he used it properly, could cut through iron as if it were butter ( ... )

That strike, however, was easily met with a block. Without moving anything but his arms, the Vizard swiftly brought the sword up and over his head to hold it firmly behind his back as his blade met another. It ground heavily against metal, particularly when he shifted his weight and pivoted to face the man, sword still in place and muscles straining in his wrists and arms. Pressing his lips together tightly, Shinji channeled his strength into one particularly rough shove to get Hijikata's katana away, a painful screech ripped from split as a result of the friction.

He had to admit, the guy was good. But not good enough, he thought grimly, lunging forward in the blink of an eye with his sword held high and aimed for Hijikata's head.

The boatswain snarled as he saw his blade meeting the cold steel of the other's - he had expected the strike to hit. But if anything, this just proved to him that the blonde certainly was more than just another sword wielding amateur; he knew how to use a sword for more than just 'to kill'. He knew more... much more than that. Maybe under different circumstances, he might have asked for a spar...

But this was not the time to consider such possibilities. There was a battle to be fought, and he wasn't going to let such thoughts distract him. Senses flaring, Hijikata felt himself moving as he raised his sword up on his head in order to block the strike coming down from his head. There was a clang as the swords met, followed by the grind of metal against metal as he dragged the sword up free from the other's and stumbled back from the force. He quickly regained his ground though and lunged forth himself, directing his blade as a jab to the other's good shoulder.

mm didn't you say you wanted to have him fracture his leg? pharaohking October 27 2009, 07:59:35 UTC

Shinji easily evaded the jab, pivoting on one foot away from the blade so that he almost ended up shoulder to shoulder with the other man for one brief second. But instead of staying there, he took a further leap back and aimed his own sword at the boatswain's back, swinging fast and hard in a mirror move of the other's earlier one.
