|D Sorry I was in a rush. mayovice October 27 2009, 05:32:22 UTC
Shinji was almost right on that - Hijikata never had an opportunity to learn formal swordsmanship when he was young, only picking it up proper when he was taken in under Kondo's wing. And even by then, the man was already roughened up through the countless battles he was forced to fight in from living out in the streets of Solare. He knew his style was unrefined, not holding to any standards - it was simply a hack-n'-slash killing method. But that was the beauty of this style - it was simple, easily adaptable and when he used it properly, could cut through iron as if it were butter.

The boatswain kept his gaze on the blonde as he dashed forth, instincts immediately telling him what to do. Taking a step back, he brought his sword up horizontally in front of his chest, the blade flashing against the sunlight as steel struck steel and the sparks flew up from the friction, barely missing his face. Tightening the grip on his blade, Hijikata immediately twisted around using his foot as the base and made a whip around, sword following his arm as he directed a strike towards the pirate's back.

That strike, however, was easily met with a block. Without moving anything but his arms, the Vizard swiftly brought the sword up and over his head to hold it firmly behind his back as his blade met another. It ground heavily against metal, particularly when he shifted his weight and pivoted to face the man, sword still in place and muscles straining in his wrists and arms. Pressing his lips together tightly, Shinji channeled his strength into one particularly rough shove to get Hijikata's katana away, a painful screech ripped from split as a result of the friction.

He had to admit, the guy was good. But not good enough, he thought grimly, lunging forward in the blink of an eye with his sword held high and aimed for Hijikata's head.

The boatswain snarled as he saw his blade meeting the cold steel of the other's - he had expected the strike to hit. But if anything, this just proved to him that the blonde certainly was more than just another sword wielding amateur; he knew how to use a sword for more than just 'to kill'. He knew more... much more than that. Maybe under different circumstances, he might have asked for a spar...

But this was not the time to consider such possibilities. There was a battle to be fought, and he wasn't going to let such thoughts distract him. Senses flaring, Hijikata felt himself moving as he raised his sword up on his head in order to block the strike coming down from his head. There was a clang as the swords met, followed by the grind of metal against metal as he dragged the sword up free from the other's and stumbled back from the force. He quickly regained his ground though and lunged forth himself, directing his blade as a jab to the other's good shoulder.

Shinji easily evaded the jab, pivoting on one foot away from the blade so that he almost ended up shoulder to shoulder with the other man for one brief second. But instead of staying there, he took a further leap back and aimed his own sword at the boatswain's back, swinging fast and hard in a mirror move of the other's earlier one.

Yes! But not... so soon? IDK. mayovice October 27 2009, 09:16:32 UTC
Barely, just barely, Hijikata just managed to avoid the strike from completely hitting him - his instincts warned him in him, and the boatswain turned around in time before the sword made its mark; instead it would have to contend with nicking the sleeve of his coat. The samurai grabbed it instinctively as he backed away, scowling harder than ever before. Damnit, this battle wasn't in his favour at all...

He wasn't one to give up so easily though. Gripping his blade tightly, the samurai made his move again - he lunged forth, but this time in a feint as he made a swift move to the side instead of his intended position and made a complex twist as his sword aimed for the opposite side of where he had seemed to attack.

i was just wondering, if you wanted shinji to do it or if rou will just be dumb and hurt himself pharaohking October 27 2009, 09:40:03 UTC

Well, this was going to be some battle then, because Shinji? He didn't give up so easily either. If stamina wasn't an issue, he would fight all day until he named himself victor, but because it was, and because he didn't have time for this playfighting, there was no use in bullshitting around when he had to get this guy to move the hell out of his way.

As Hijikata advanced on him, he set in his weight and used it to leap back some distance, but the very second his foot touched the deck, he assumed offensive position and sprung back at the man, their blades clashing once again. His eyes fell to the frayed sleeve, noting the slice. So, he'd managed to get him somewhere, huh? Well, at least it was a start. But he had to give the guy credit; Shinji was already fast as it was, so for him to keep up with him was almost impressive.

Still, all he was doing was swinging his sword like a madman. Not assessing the blond's weak spots, or trying to infuriate him with talk. (Though, he didn't seem like much of a talker in the first place. Like someone else he knew.) All he was doing was hacking at him with little to no restraint, like he didn't care what happened, as long as he brought him down.

It would be commendable if it wasn't so foolhardy.

...I will give him some pride and have Shinji hurt him. mayovice October 27 2009, 10:04:03 UTC
To be honest, strategy was not one of Hijikata's stronger points - sure, he could stragetize well enough when needed, but he was the kind of person to think more on his feet rather than sit behind a desk and plan stuff out. It was the kind of life he had lived in through his time in Solare, and working on the Victoria II did nothing but strengthen that fact.

Still, it was endlessly frustrating that even until now, he hadn't managed to land a blow on the other after all this time. Usually he would have already managed to deal a slash on other opponents; he supposed the magic was helping the other somewhere around there. But regardless, he still wasn't going to let the other past him so easily.

Gritting his teeth, his eyes blazed as Hijikata held his position this time, dark blue eyes narrowing as he studied the pirate and waited for his move now. So far, he had managed to do... nothing, and he in return had received a frayed sleeve.

Seriously, seriously annoying.

And hopefully he'd end up with more than that sometime in the near future, like another cut or a bruise or a concussion. Anything. By now he should've done more than just slice up his sleeve, but at least it meant that Shinji was getting closer to nicking something else. The taller boy gripped the hilt of his sword tighter and directed Hijikata's blade away in a scrape of steel, only to bring his own right back up in a quick diagonal sweep in the close proximity.

Juuuust a little more.

Acting on instinct, Hijikata reacted with every strike and swipe that Shinji directed towards him, letting his senses and body take over what reason couldn't handle. For a moment his mind went into what could be best described as a 'stream of conciousness' - the blur between reality and dream, the line right on the edge of conciousness and into unconsciousness. He more of felt his body rather than making it move, instincts and senses taking hold as he fought with every being in his body.

The sounds of the battle were the only thing in his ears now, senses filled with the sounds of battle and war the one thing he could register - moving without thinking, he lunged forth once he had the opportunity, sword flashing as struck at his opponent in every possible angle that was present to his eyes, attacking and not giving the blonde any reprive.

Well, Shinji sure hoped he wouldn't give him any.

Every blow was met with the best block that he could manage, but on one particular one, he found himself being slightly overpowered, his blade shifting an inch or two closer to his face with the brute force. He was having a hard time catching his breath with the fast pace of the battle, so he inhaled deeply and pressed on, determined to get at least one gash on Hijikata.

And for a moment, it almost seemed like the boatswain would get his wish of striking Shinji, but as the blond leaped back, only an article of his clothing got caught. And not just any article. His fucking tie, which lay abandoned on the dusty deck floor. Half of it was missing when he took one spare second to glance down, and sighing, he brought his right hand up to the knot, sword not quite lowered yet.

"Man, and I liked this tie," he whined outloud, easily undoing the windsor knot and pulling the mutilated red necktie off. "Guess we're even now, huh?"

He didn't wait for an answer, though, and flung what remained of the tie at Hijikata's face, waiting for him to react before lunging forward in an opening.

Harder and harder he pushed on with his strike, giving his foe no time to think, no time to relax, no time to even know what was going on except for the endless attacks that were directed towards him. Hijikata himself was used to such battles - back in Solare, his instincts were all he could rely on to help he tide though the countless life and death battles he was forced to fight in, just in order to preserve his own life.

It was the only reason why he could fight as he was doing now; attacking with such rashness and velocity that no other sane swordsman would ever try to pull. This was the simplicity and concept of his own swordstyle - as unrestrained and wild as it was, it was a style that had no boundaries, no restraints; it could shift and adapt when necessary, and it was strong by itself.

Eventually though, he finally snapped out of his trance the moment his blade managed to cut though the blonde's tie, eyes snapping back into focus once his sword cut though something more than just air. He immediately stepped back by instinct, breath coming out in quiet pants as he readied his ground and watched Shinji - though the last thing he expected was for the other half of the cut tie to be chucked at him.

Instantly his instincts kicked in, raising his blade to slice through the tie right before Shinji jumped in before him with a lunge towards his shoulder. Again he just barely managed to dodge, twisting to the side so that all the sword would get was the frayed sleeve. He twisted around right after that, sword reaching out and trying to jab the other on the shoulder once again.

Breathlessly, the Vizard slammed his blade into Hijikata's so that he could deflect it away from his shoulder, unwilling to have anything severed just quite yet. Earlier he'd figured he had the upper hand in this fight, but now, it really seemed like anyone's game. The other man seemed to be getting more into it, his swings becoming more violent, less concentrated and more focused on skewering him. His head could easily be rolling around on the ground soon enough.

It was almost a little alarming, and narrowing his eyes slightly, Shinji swung his sword around to go in from the side to prevent him from attacking head on once more.

Another loud clang resounded through the area as the two blades met once again, followed by the screech of metal scratching against metal when Hijikata twisted his blade to scrape against the other's in a bright flurry of sparks. Managing to deflect his blade, the boatswain gave distance between themselves once more, hand clutched around his sword in a death grip. His breaths were still quiet, controlled - a sign that he still had more than enough stamina to go on with the battle.

He wasn't too sure how much longer the other was able to go on, but no matter what the officer was still going to damn well try his best to bring the other down. This was his duty, as a crew member of the Victoria II. Taking the first strike this time, Hijikata sprung forth, charging head on with his sword at the ready as he swing it down towards Shinji's head.

And again, it was blocked.

The blond was feeling the strain resonating in his wrist and thigh muscles, and the back of his shirt was beginning to stick lightly to his skin in a show of just how strenuous this fight had become. It wasn't difficult by any means, but Shinji was already growing somewhat breathless from the speed and intensity of every powerful swing, on both his end and Hijikata's.

He curved his fingers around sharp enough of his blade, pushing into the other man's sword as he tried not to grit his teeth.

Meeting the push head on now, Hijikata pushed back as well against Shinji's blade, never giving the blonde an inch. Shinji may have his magic, but when in came to physical strength the samurai was going to make sure that he was in no way going to lose out to the other. Still, he had to be careful - if the blonde decided to use his magic, then things were going to take a very big turn.

Narrowing his eyes, the officer bit down on his lip in order to still himself from the effort used to hold his ground. A bead of sweat rolled down his face, dripping down from his jaw and to the floor of the deck.

The use of magic probably would've been a smart idea, but Shinji had already accepted early on in the fight that he wouldn't use any unless his life was at stake. And right then, it wasn't. It wasn't so much out of a niceness directed at Hijikata, but moreso an example of his own restraint. Hijikata was strong, so he'd fight back against him. But he didn't seem to know any magic, as far as the Vizard could sense, so using magic against him would be extremely unfair, no matter how badly he wanted the guy out of his damn hair.

Of course, that didn't mean he was taking it easy on him. Just that, this time, the boatswain didn't have to worry about blasts of reiatsu knocking him off his feet.

With a shove at the other's blade, Shinji backed up, his fingers curling once again around the hilt. They seemed to be on more even ground now, which meant he'd have to take him out sooner rather than later.
