Masamune hadn't even bothered to go to his cabin once he'd boarded, lounging on his trunk instead. He hadn't had some fun in a while, and hell, dealing with his stuff could wait while he saw what this Jabu guy was worth. If Lowell thought they were worthy of comparison, he was gonna be really fun. Even if he was the first mate. Shit like rank didn't matter in this kind of fight, it was just to get to see what he was like.

When he saw this short red guy (who looked jacked as hell, but tough little guys like that usually were) running up and shouting at him, he smirked in glee. This guy seemed like he was going to have as much fun as Masamune himself was. Like he was looking for a fight. "Date Masamune, Dragon of Oshuu. Guess you're Jabu."

He'd expected another swordsman, a guy like him who could do crazy things with a blade instead of just smacking someone around, but Jabu didn't have anything with him. "You want a sword, or you wanna just try and hit me?"

"A sword?" Jabu grinned. "Hell no. This is gonna be a real fight. No hiding behind weapons." He moved into a fighter's stance, fists raised. There didn't need to be any more talking. This guy sure as hell didn't look like much, and swordsmen never had any real strength behind their punches anyway. Jabu foresaw an easy and very satisfying victory. Hell, he decided, he'd even let this guy take the first swing if he wanted to. "Come on," he said impatiently. "You gonna fight, or not?"

Date pulled himself up off the trunk. "Of course I'm going to fight, why the hell else you think I called you up here?" Jabu hadn't sounded like a swords kind of guy. Fists weren't as flashy, but this guy just wanted to try and beat the crap out of him, and punching a guy was perfect for that.

Try. There wasn't any "fighting to a draw" shit with fists. You were either down (and maybe out) or you were up. He raised up his fists and smirked back at Jabu, then almost before either of them were ready, flashed out with a straight left.

Jabu had decided that Date would get the first swing, so he was expecting this one - but not at quite that speed. He managed to dodge it, but barely.

He realized that being out of action with a head wound for an extended period hadn't done anything for his reaction time. It'd been awhile since he'd trained, and this guy was fast. Well-- that just meant he'd have to fight harder, then. His blood was pumping already.

The instant he'd regained his balance from his dodge, Jabu threw a hard right. The faster he knocked this guy out, the better; he wasn't pulling any punches, even this early on.

Asch had been out on the deck for fresh air when Jabu arrived on the deck. At first, Asch thought nothing of it. It wasn't like Jabu was doing anything unusual. But then he noticed that Jabu seemed to be looking for something. Or someone, as the first mate called over to the newcomer who was also out on the deck.

Listening to the conversation, it seemed like they were going to fight. Mildly interested, Asch moved to the edges of the deck to give them some room and where he could watch the upcoming battle better.

Abe didn't particularly approve of fighting, but admittedly, he wanted to see this. He had been watching their exchange over the network in his usual, leery fashion before deciding that, hey, they were really going to fight -- he had better not miss this.

A few minutes later found Abe on the deck. He didn't even have to look around for the fighters -- their noise was enough of an indicator. The captain was right. These two had more alike than was comforting. Abe could see a lot of damages to the ship in the future.

"They haven't killed each other yet?" he asked dryly, moving next to the redhead -- have they met? Abe didn't think so -- and promptly stepping up to the rail and sitting on it with an easy sort of balance.

Yamamoto hopped up the last two stairs that led up to the deck from the hold, trying to stuff one arm in the jacket he'd hurriedly grabbed from his room.

"Hey, am I late for the fight?" He called out.

Kara popped up just after Yamamoto, appearing behind the young man with a case of beer bottles at hand.

"I come bearing gifts," the blond pilot solemnly declared.

Wolfram had been up on deck polishing his sword when the commotion started. Having always been one drawn to sparring of any kind, Wolfram couldn't help but step over to watch. It was fascinating to him the things men would fight over and he always watched with a keen interest, keeping tabs in his head of who he thought would win.

Uni had been dividing her free time between sleep and thought lately; with the new doctor having been fully updated on the current situation, her constant vigilance in the infirmary was no longer required. Rest was unfamiliar but not unwelcome.

Still, as soon as she found that Jabu and the newcomer were sparring, she shook herself out of her stasis. That she would need to watch was a given: if not only because of the likelihood of injury, because of the duty that kept her here. The only question that remained was how.

Stepping up onto the deck with her coat and the light fabric of her dress billowing around her, Uni sighted the small group clustered as if to watch the fight, hearing the tail end of Shion's question. Ah -- it wouldn't be a good idea to risk such a wager, so instead of approaching them she instead allowed her steps to take her to another person who seemed to be spectating. Uni settled herself on a bench a few paces away from the young man, nodding politely to him as she took her seat.

It took Wolfram a moment to take notice of the woman's presence, having been nearly entranced by the commotion. Unsure quite how to respond to her nod, Wolfram just gave a half-smile and a quick jerk of his head.

"Fight...," he mumbled dumbly, not sure if she was looking to talk or just wanted a good view of the spectacle.

Oh, there was no way in the world Meg was missing this. One arrogant, muscle-bound asshole was going to get his ass handed to him. (Granted, one of them would walk away with his ego even more inflated than usual, but that didn't mean it wouldn't be fun to watch.) She would have joined the larger group, but she wasn't in the mood for alcohol or bets, so she stood beside the quieter pair of spectators.

"That's what it looks like," she said matter-of-factly to Wolfram, as the first blows were exchanged. "Don't worry about it. Beating the brains out of each other is how guys like that say 'hello.'" She would know; she'd seen more than a few like that in Kropmork.
