Question for you all!

If there's one thing I know about writers and fandoms, it's that there's A LOT of them. Not just Twilight, or Harry Potter, or even Mortal Instruments, but fandoms on tv shows, games, anime. Fanfiction.net alone probably has millions of fics. There's always something new or something discovered. As a writer

That's a really tough question because as a fan of their writing I'd never want auderyii_fic or majestamoniet to stoop to the Hannah Montana level but who am I to say anything? I mean, we have to admit that this is a fic community for Twilight, preferably Jacob/Bella but still. SMeyer's writing is bad. As an English major it's painful for me to read the books. But we have so many quality fic writers because of the series. Who's to say that Hannah Montana would get some quality writers too?

The only part of fanfic that I'd necessarily be cautious of are the lemons. Because Twilight has such a large fan base we can get away with it. But as you said, Hannah Montana is more or less kids and preteens. Then again, I'm 19 almost 20 years old and still love Wizards of Waverly Place to this day, but that's another story. Caution would be the word I'd use, and clear warnings about what the story entails when posting.

Because there are not very many ~quality fandoms out there I think we shouldn't judge the fic quality based on the fandom.

I think we shouldn't judge the fic quality based on the fandom Too true. Bad fics have no borders, and the most epic fics are diamonds mixed in with cubic zirconium.

Hmm... This one's a doozy. I've dipped into other stuff like that, too (mostly anime) and I never really found good, quality work in the cartoons and animes aimed at younger people. (Avatar: the Last Airbender being a major exception. They have some seriously good fics hiding in there, but I think that's because even a lot of older people enjoyed it, too).

I wouldn't be too quick to judge based on fandom, but some might be amature-ish because they are aimed at a young audience. I wouldn't bash them for being amatures. Hell, I'm older and I'm still getting the hang of writing, too. We all have to start somewhere, and if that's Hannah Montana, so be it. At least they're writing something, and that's how you get better

There's nothing wrong with writing *quality* fic for any level of a fandom.

I think fandoms like Hannah Montana are important because they offer young readers/writers a launching point into the fanfiction world. Back when I was in middle school (over 8 years ago, goodness) I discovered fanfiction via the X-men fandom. I watched the X-men cartoon on Saturday mornings. But I quickly found that most of the X-men fanfic was written for an older audience (people who'd read the comics and such) and honestly it didn't appeal much to me. I didn't care a whole lot for the "mature, experienced" writing. To my young brain it moved too slowly and focused on more adult concepts I didn't find as fun to read about
