Is LiveJournal Dead?

Is LiveJournal Dead ?
Why would I post this to our community? Well, for one, asking is LiveJournal dead does have a lot to do with the economy in general, when you stop and think about it. And, more to the point, LiveJournal is still the platform we have chosen to use for this community forum. (More on that later.)

Many livejournal.com users have ( Read more... )

I have a DW account, as well as my LJ. I started it initially for backup in case LJ had another attack of the Stupids(TM).

I crosspost, because I have friends in both places.

I prefer DW/LJ over FB or Twitter, because you can have a decent conversation/discussion here. You also get to see everything your friends post -- that is everything *they* give you access to vs. what FB thinks you should see.

Heh! LJ *always* has more attacks of the stupids - even when you think that there possibly, no way no how, could be any more after xyz event lol

Totally agree with what you say about the quality of conversation comparison.. and especially so with the way FB manages what you read.. that has always limited my interest in using FB in a really big way.

Etsy? What's that?

It feels a bit retro now, but as well as being a decent blogging application LJ is the first real modern social network, and it's got a lot more depth than FaceBook / Twitter, yet is easier to operate than WordPress.

I'm glad there's some policing, as I remember when some really nasty stuff would get on here, though I'm take your word for it that the mods have been over-zealous ( ... )

LJ is a very decent blogging application, and way, way more depth than I ever get with FB, G+ or Twitter. I like WP, but as for conversations like these? Bleh, forget it, yano?

The DDOS attacks have been incredibly disruptive and annoying, but like yourself, I sort of had that same, eh, staying in here and facing down the attackers -- whoever they are? lol

Interesting observation you have made there about the quantity vs quality around here now. I haven't really thought about that, to tell you the truth. And I think that might be right for my LJ flist as well.

I do not think LJ is dead, but I think the die off has started and unless the company is sold it is irreversible. They cannot be trusted with monetary information because they switched loads of customers over to auto pay, (including me) and then denied it. This means I can't pay them anymore ( ... )

Pretty harsh indictment there. I can't say that having had all that has happened to you, if it happened to me, I would feel any different.

I do think that LJ may very well get sold again. But is that really the "fix"? Customer service just about anywhere these days is crap. Companies aren't into paying for it. Everything has become commoditized. Granted, LJ is owned by a Russian co, but is FB customer service any better? FB security???

I like reading updates, but I do tend to be on twitter more. Of course, lj does allow you to crosspost your stuff to a twitter and facebook feed so you could consider doing something like that.
