Jobs like this were always pretty easy, which was good because events and parties and festivals were Audrey's bread and butter; they made up for the less steady times. Not that this was a paying gig, but it was good practice and she got to be around people, put herself out there. It also looked like a lot of fun. She was ridiculously proud of Dalton for getting it all put together, and she wouldn't have missed being in on it for the world. Which was what she'd told Cal when she'd told him she'd need the night off ( ... )

The festival seemed to be going well and Ezra was enjoying spending the afternoon at the Bakery's booth. Although he had to keep reminding himself that he really shouldn't be buying half of the baked goods for himself, even if they were so damn tempting and he was hungry. When he had first offered to help Carrie out, he hadn't been entirely sure about it; he liked talking to people though, and that's essentially what he was doing while assisting at the booth. Plus it was nice catching up with Elliot, he really needed to make more of a point to get together with the other man on a more regular basis ( ... )

Ariel was having a great time working in the rescue booth with Mia. This was just her sort of thing, getting to talk to people and promote animal rescue and all. She had the stuff she and Mia had made set out on the table in front of her, the totes and pillows and a few plush toys, a few animal toys (bones and mice), kerchiefs, that sort of thing. She also had some stuff just for her, a few crochet blankets, a few woven baby blankets, a few scarves, that kind of thing. She had even had a card made up so she might get a few commissions on baby things ( ... )

Ezra own grin just got wider at the way Ariel greeted him. "Now if only everyone greeted me as happily as you just did." He remarked with a laugh, shaking his head at her teasing. "Is this really the face of a stalker?" Ezra asked jokingly, doing his best 'I'm innocent.' look as he peered down at her. He shoved his hands in his pockets, and smiled as he answered. "Yeah, it's really kind of great. I mean it's not Oktoberfest or anything, which is the only other thing I have to compare to. But it's definitely fun." He said. Ezra couldn't help but note that Ariel's happiness really was infectious and when she leaned forward while she chattered, Ezra caught his gaze lowering to move over for just a moment, a fact that surprised him ( ... )

Ariel smiled. "And why shouldn't I be happy to see you?" she said, tilting her head. She was. He was a really nice guy, something she admittedly didn't have much experience in, but she enjoyed hanging out with him. "Mmm, I dunno," she said, contemplating him with a twinkle in her eye. "Naaah, not really, but neither is this," she said, cupping her jaw and batting her eyes up at him ( ... )

Everything was set up, the horses were all saddled and ready to go and Shosh was just hoping that the day would go well. To ensure that she at least didn't fuck things up with her glowing personality Shosh had asked Rori to help her out with the rides. Rori taught lessons at Iron Hollow and was just over all a better people person, or better at faking the whole 'people person' thing. Thank god for best friend's is all Shosh had to say about that ( ... )

Rori leaned over the horse she was leading, arms over the saddle and chin propped on it. Like all the steady horses they'd brought, the horse didn't even bat an eye at her at the way she leaned against him, looking over at Shosh. "Well, lovey, considering you just texted him like ten minutes ago, yes, you would be being a worried mom. Relax, Shosh. Noah seems to have Sloane well in hand, I wouldn't worry just yet." It was amusing for her to see Shosh act like this, since she was pretty sure that Sloane was A-okay fine.

"So what's up, Shosh? You don't usually jitter like this, even over Sloane." Her friend wasn't usually a worrier type, not even over Sloane. Of course, she was a concerned mother, she wouldn't ever think otherwise, but Shosh wouldn't have let Sloane go off with Noah if she hadn't trusted him to take care of her for awhile. "Do I need to go kick someone's ass or something? 'cause I will, you know."

Shosh fidgeted with the lead line she held, laughing slightly as Rori pointed out that texting again would seem a little overbearing. Really Noah wasn't much younger than her, and could easily handle a four year old; that didn't mean Shosh didn't worry. "This is why I keep you around, you point out when I'm going a little crazy." She laughed, knowing it must be a sight to see her worrying like this. She so rarely did, and Noah spent hours with Sloane at the ranch, this wasn't any different, really ( ... )

"Well, Shosh, I hate to tell you, but you're always a little crazy," Rori deadpanned, "But I guess that's another reason to keep me around, to remind you of the fact." It was weird to see her worrying to this degree, it was one thing for her to worry over Sloane a little, and another to be overbearing.

Rori shrugged, a weird movement considering she was draped over the back of a horse. "Only someone that knows you real well." And she knew her friend really well. She tilted her head, brow furrowed in question. "What'd she say?" she prompted, wondering what precisely was going on and who she was going to have to hurt.

She frowned, getting angry at her next words. "What the fuck?" she said, trying to keep her voice down because there were kids in the area. "You don't know how to be that much of a bitch. How could anyone say something like that?"

It wasn't always easy for Jake to manuever among crowds of people these days, and it was a reason he often shied away in the past year or so from large things like this. However, today he was actually looking forward to getting out, since he had Star and Neve and her girls to accompany him. The Fall Festival sounded like fun, at least to him, and he would get to spend some time with his... was girlfriend the appropriate term at their age?... and the kids, and maybe they would warm up to their dating situation a bit ( ... )

When the Fall festival had been brought up, Neve had at first been hesitant just because she wasn't sure how her girls would take it. She wanted to spend time with Jake, Star and her girls though. If they were going to make this work and help the girls to adjust to the idea of them dating, they would have to do outings like this and Neve would just have to accept that Mackenzie was going to be kind of distant until she really adjusted. Plus, spending the day with Jake was something Neve was looking forward to, something she always looked forward to ( ... )

Jake knew it would be a bit awkward to do the more family type things for awhile; this wouldn't deter him, however, from doing them. They both had kids, and they were an active part of their lives. They would make this a part of their lives. At least the girls had been polite, that much he was grateful for.

"Oooh, brownies. From where Belle's brother's girl works?" Star said, perking up at the mention of those particular brownies. They were so GOOD. "Oh, is your Uncle doing something here?" she asked curiously, content to let the adults follow behind them and to the side. Miss Neve could watch out for him today, she thought, though she didn't really mean it. It was second nature to help him out in public situations.

Neve wasn't expecting a seamless transition into this, into including their girls in this. She wasn't going to shy away from doing these things though, and she hoped in time her girls would adjust, and that Star would as well. She wasn't expecting Jake's daughter to be thrilled about this, and at least she had managed to be polite in greeting her earlier.

"Yeah, Uncle Ezra's known Carrie since March or something. He goes in to taste test for her every once in awhile, Mom says that if he wasn't so active he'd be doomed by the amount of chocolate he eats." Shelby replied, smiling brightly. "And yeah, he's helping at the bakery's booth. Carrie asked and he couldn't say no, and anyway Belle's brother is working as well and they're friends." She chattered away, trying to ignore the fact that her Mom and Jake were behind them, because that was still so weird to see them out together.

Luke probably wouldn't be attending if it weren't for Darcy--mostly because he likely wouldn't have known about it but also because he'd never really been plugged into community-type social events. He was working on it, sort of, even though his default state was still homebody and probably always would be. He'd mentioned it to Iz, though, because it'd sounded like something they could probably do together. Food and craft booths and hayrides and such should be fun, and it got them out a bit.

Even if Darcy hadn't told Luke he'd better be there.

He didn't see her yet, but it was a big area, bigger than he'd expected, and crowds were forming. It occurred to him that this was all hers, hers and her siblings'. He couldn't imagine it, but he was trying not to think about the possibility that she might be way out of his league.

"We should find some funnel cake or something," he said, "funnel cake seems like it'd be a festival-type thing."

"You know my language so well." Isaac laughed, throwing an arm over Luke's shoulders and he surveyed the area.

It was nice to be outside in decent weather with the bustle of people around them. Took them both out of their own heads.

"Makes me miss New York a little. We used to go out to the suburbs for apple picking in the fall."

"I'd hope I would know it by now," Luke said, stumbling happily into Isaac as he tried to follow the smells in the general direction of food. Some cider might be good too.

"No, me too," he said, "it's not nearly nippy enough for this time of year. I bet it's nice and brisk in New York, and windy. We'd be picking way more apples than we'll ever use." He smiled a little, missing their little tradition. "Now I want caramel apples. We could attempt to make some."

"Hm, how hard can they be?" He squeezed Luke's shoulder before letting his arm drop and investigating a nearby stall. "Warm up some caramel, dip in apple, right? Bet we could manage it."

"And I always used those leftover apples. They made great decaying art for the more conceptual student shows."
