Date: Saturday, November 5, 2011 Characters: Dalton Teller, Darcy Teller, Audrey Teller, Anyone else Location: Blossoms Status: Public Summary: It was a nice day for an outdoor festival Completion: Incomplete
Ariel was having a great time working in the rescue booth with Mia. This was just her sort of thing, getting to talk to people and promote animal rescue and all. She had the stuff she and Mia had made set out on the table in front of her, the totes and pillows and a few plush toys, a few animal toys (bones and mice), kerchiefs, that sort of thing. She also had some stuff just for her, a few crochet blankets, a few woven baby blankets, a few scarves, that kind of thing. She had even had a card made up so she might get a few commissions on baby things.
She enjoyed chatting with people, finding the festival a lot like stuff that she might have gone to back home, more like a small town than a huge city, and she really liked it. Though she was sort of a volunteer, she was wearing a scoop neck sweater, forgoing the volunteer shirt since she didn't technically volunteer at the shelter, at least not yet.
She grinned as she looked up at the sound of a familiar voice. "Ezra!" she said happily. "Me, stalking you? I could say the same," she replied teasingly, looking way up at him--he really was tall. She leaned forward against the table, smiling. "Enjoying the Festival?" she asked. "I'm really liking it, it reminds me of home. Haven't been to anything like this for ages." She was obviously happy, leaning toward chattering, glad to see a familiar face despite not minding chatting with strangers.
Ezra own grin just got wider at the way Ariel greeted him. "Now if only everyone greeted me as happily as you just did." He remarked with a laugh, shaking his head at her teasing. "Is this really the face of a stalker?" Ezra asked jokingly, doing his best 'I'm innocent.' look as he peered down at her. He shoved his hands in his pockets, and smiled as he answered. "Yeah, it's really kind of great. I mean it's not Oktoberfest or anything, which is the only other thing I have to compare to. But it's definitely fun." He said. Ezra couldn't help but note that Ariel's happiness really was infectious and when she leaned forward while she chattered, Ezra caught his gaze lowering to move over for just a moment, a fact that surprised him.
Shaking his head and hoping Ariel hadn't noticed, Ezra rubbed at the back of his neck and wondered where the hell that had come from. "So this might be an obvious question, but do you volunteer at the shelter?" He asked more as a way to distract himself, though he was curious, especially since she wasn't wearing a volunteer shirt.
Ariel smiled. "And why shouldn't I be happy to see you?" she said, tilting her head. She was. He was a really nice guy, something she admittedly didn't have much experience in, but she enjoyed hanging out with him. "Mmm, I dunno," she said, contemplating him with a twinkle in her eye. "Naaah, not really, but neither is this," she said, cupping her jaw and batting her eyes up at him.
"I just have the fairs and fests back home to compare, this is bigger but it's got the same community type feel, ya know? It's really nice, 'specially in this big city." She sometimes felt a lot more isolated than she ever had back home, here in the city. "What was Oktoberfest like?"
She didn't notice him looking her over, really, since she was used to that reaction from men, though not from Ezra, really. "Not precisely. I'm friends with one of the women who works there, Mia." She pointed out her friend. "She helped me out when I found Tiana, my first dog, on the street. And I helped her make some of this stuff to sell for the shelter, so." She gestured at the things on display on one side.
Ezra laughed. "No reason really, plus I'm kind of fond of the happy greeting." He answered, smirking slightly. He enjoyed how bubbly Ariel always was, it was hard to be in a bad mood around her, what with the smiling and the chattering. "Oh thank God, don't know what my excuse would have been if the face didn't work." Ezra laughed, and found he was just a little distracting from commented as she pulled her own 'innocent' act on him. "Nah, it's really not. Nobody could believe someone with that smile and those eyes could be devious or stalkerish." He paused for a moment. "Though you could just be hiding a devious personality under a very innocent looking exterior."
"Is it going to sound entirely lame if I say I've never been to a state or county fair?" He asked sheepishly, it wasn't like they had ever been high priority on his list of things to do during the short times he'd spent in the states before his accident. "Oktoberfest, it's unique, and you definitely run into a lot of drunk Germans. I enjoyed it, though Neve always jokes it's only because I was born there." Ezra paused, realizing how that sounded. "Born in German, not at Oktoberfest." He clarified with a small smile.
He had to count small blessings when it seemed like Ariel hadn't caught him looking her over, that would have been and awkward situation he wasn't entirely ready to explain; because he wasn't entirely sure what was going on himself. "So this is totally a friend favor, then?" He asked, glancing in the direction she pointed. "I'm doing the same thing, working over at the bakery booth for Carrie." Ezra added, glancing down at the items Ariel had gestured to. "I'd offer to buy something, but I don't have a pet." Though he was still thinking about getting that dog, had even got Neve to say yes to the whole idea.
She grinned happily under the praise, she had always enjoyed being complimented. It might be a little vain, but her looks were the one thing she'd always been told she had, adn that they were all she would have, so hearing them praised still felt good. When he teased that she could be hiding it, though, she pouted her lower lip out at him playfully, hand playing with a strand of her hair. She wasn't truly a manipulative person, especially when she was only playing and it was obvious she was. "Awwww, Ezra... Lil' ol' me couldn't do something like that," she wheedled softly, looking up at him through her lashes. It was flirtatious though she might not realize it, so intent on playing with the teasing he had started. It was a flaw she'd always had.
"Oh now, Ezra! We are just gonna have to fix that right up at some point," she declared. "I'll keep my ear to the ground and I'm gonna drag you to the first one I hear of, though one probably won't be til next year." Everyone should go at least once." She grinned. "Oh the real Oktoberfest, that must be so cool," she said. She'd never traveled, but that really did sound great.
"Friend favor on both ends, saved me from buying my own booth for what little I have," she said, gesturing to the other pile, though there was a little more in the box under the table. "Well, not allllll of it is for the animals. And there's food, and pie," she said, "Some like what I made for Carrie's party the other day." She pointed to it too. "Oh fun. I'll have to go buy something later, I love their stuff." She smiled. "Plus you said you wanted a dog. You should talk to Mia about adopting, she could introduce you to a bunch of animals at some point and find just the right one for you."
He was surprised by how easy it was to tease and joke with Ariel, and he found he enjoyed the way she seemed to brighten that much more after he had complimented her. His words had been entirely honest, and as she pouted Ezra found his gaze dropped to her mouth momentarily before he shook his head and laughed. It was obvious Ariel was joking still, so Ezra felt better playing along. "I don't know, I still think a very devious personality is hidden underneath a pretty shell." He answered with a hint of a mischievous grin. Ezra met her gaze as she peered up at him, and he was mostly oblivious to the flirtation, even as he noted surprisingly just how distracting the look she was giving him was.
"Okay, well, I look forward to that being fixed." he said with a laugh. Admittedly going to some kind of fair with Ariel wouldn't be terrible at all, and he really did realize it was something he should experience. "I can wait until next year, you just tell me the time and place and I'll be there." And he would be, he didn't seem himself leaving Texas and he hoped that in a year he would still be friends with Ariel. " Yeah, I've been a couple times actually, and It was very cool." He said, aware that to him it might not seem that interesting; but for those that maybe hadn't traveled it would be.
"That's great, I'm sure it was nicer to just be able to go with Mia on this." he replied, glancing down at the items she gestured to. "So this is the stuff you make then?" Ezra asked, holding up one of the items Ariel had motioned to. "I left the Jones booth so I'd stop buying food, and now you're standing here telling me you've got pie at this booth. Think I might just be doomed." Laughing, he set the item back down on the table as he nodded. "Yeah, I do want a dog. So I might just have to take you up on that recommendation of talking to Mia." He really would talk to the other woman at some point, because he really was leaning more towards getting a rescue if he did end up getting a dog.
"Awww, Ezra, you hurt me," Ariel said, still pouting, putting her hand over her heart teasingly. "I couldn't hurt a fly." She bit her lip, trying to keep from busting out laughing, trying to keep up the act. She might not be wholly innocent, but while she had wiles, she never really used them like that to get her way. She rarely thought to.
"Depends on when they have'em, and I'm not familiar with Texas as Tennessee," she said, shrugging her shoulders. "Though this is close to it, without the rides and all. Though there're horses, I saw them down there somewhere." She indicated the direction.
"Some of it. DOn't do some of it normally, I usually do yarn stuff, mostly, blankets, afghans, quilt with fabric, and sometimes sew clothes," though she usually just altered stuff to fit better, since she was so small. She grinned impishly. "Everyone sells food. We also have caramel and candy apples, they're nommy, I had one earlier." And mmm, it had been another thing she hadn't had in a long time. "So yes, you're doomed."
"Well, no one better to talk to. She knows all the ins and outs you'd need." And MIa had the most adorable selection of animals that Ariel couldn't help but cuddle from time to time.
Ezra just shook his head as an amused smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Think we're even, 'cause that pout is making me feel pretty guilty." He said. If there wasn't a table between them Ezra thought he maybe would have given Ariel a hug at that point, but reaching across the table would just be strange, even he realized this. "You probably couldn't, think the fly would actually be bigger than you." Ezra smirked, shaking his head just a bit as his gaze settled on her mouth as she bit her lip. What the hell was going on? Ezra's smirk didn't falter though, and hoped Ariel wasn't offended, though she was tiny and it was hard not to notice.
"Going to take your word for it, as I've never been." Ezra said, mirroring Ariel's shrug. He really didn't have any idea what a fair entailed, and found he wouldn't mind if Ariel was the one to take him to one. "Yeah, I saw the horses when I came in. Have to figure almost any event in Texas would have horses involved, or maybe I'm stereotyping."
He nodded as she listed off the crafty things she did. "Okay, I just have to say it, you must have loads of patients. Don't most of those projects take time and are usually tedious." Granted he had never once done any of those things, he figured crafty stuff like that was always time consuming. Ezra laughed at her reply. "You are evil, I have no self-restraint and you're listing off caramels and candy apples." he said, not pouting but very nearly. "Y'know, you could at least sound concerned for my doomed-ness."
"In that case I'll definitely talk to her." And if they happened to have a big dog or something, Ezra just might end up with a pet.
The corner of her lip twitched before pulling up, the pout trying to sneak into a grin, finally pulling her lip from between her teeth to smile up at him. "Aww now, I'm just a little bigger than a fly. A bit, yeah?" She held her fingers a little bit apart, imploring him, eyes dancing with laughter.
"I wouldn't know, as I've only been in Texas almost a year now, and I didn't get out much 'fore this summer, really. Too busy and couldn't really afford it," she said honestly, shrugging. "So I dunno about the horses."
"I wouldn't say loads. It's just fun busy work for my hands, or gifts for people and stuff." Though she did like to sell a bit of it when she could. "My grandmama, she always said best to be doing something. Idle hands are the devils plaything, dontcha know." She grinned. "It's for the shelter. So you'd be donating to a good cause," she wheedled a little more.
Titling his head, the expression on his face was critical as he studied Ariel for a moment. After a moment a small mischievous smirk appeared as he looked down at her. "I don't know, you're maybe little bit bigger. But I wouldn't bet money on it." He joked, finally breaking down an laughing outright.
"Oh yeah? I've only been here for a little over a year myself. I spent a lot of time doing things I'm not entirely sure why I did now, but now point in dwelling on it." He admitted, knowing now that he hadn't always been entirely true to himself over the last months.
"Your Grandma's probably not wrong, people seem to get into trouble when they don't have anything better to do." Ezra commented, knowing he always made the worst choices when he was bored. "Why do I feel like I'd willingly take home a dog if you asked me to?" He laughed. "Now I see why Mia asked you to work this booth, nobody can say no to your smile and big blue eyes."
"Oh Ezra, you're so meaaaaaaan to me," Ariel pouted before breaking down into laughter as well. She shook her head, pushing her hair back into place. She glanced around, making sure the volunteers' kids were all still doing what they were supposed to. Emmy was clinging to Mia for the moment, so she was free and clear.
"Everyone has times like that, yeah? I just didn't have a lot of time." Or money. Money was big in being able to go out and do things. "Least you're pushing onward." She was trying, it was just really hard to push past some of her past.
She grinned. "'cause cute fuzzies need to be given a home. And I love to see the strays and outcasts find a place that gets them loved." Something she'd always wanted. "I've always had a bad habit of taking them in myself, but I don't have the room or the money." She smiled up at him. "So it's all for the good."
"Oh, am I?" Ezra asked with a smirk, his tone joking. "Not sure it's being mean if it's the truth." He was clearly teasing and he really did hope Ariel realized that, and he kind of thought she did because she was laughing and not walking away from him with a hurt expression on her face.
"True, I guess everyone does." Obviously he wasn't a minority in that area, didn't mean he regretted some of his choices any less. "I'm trying, not sure how well I'm doing with it currently." He was moving forward, he just wasn't entirely sure what direction he needed to go in.
He laughed. "So you're going to ply your friends into adopting them because you've run out of room?" It wouldn't take much in Ezra's case as he really was looking to get a dog. "That's just a little devious of you." He said as he grinned down at her. "And I'm clearly the fool that's fallen for it."
Ariel pouted at him some more, all in good fun because she was having fun teasing him and being teased. "I am NOT that small," she said, stamping her foot playfully and winking up at him through her hair before bursting out laughing at her own antics.
"You're doin' all right, I think," she told him honestly, smiling at him.
"Not devious, just highly motivated," she said, tossing her hair back. "Everything should have a home, and someone to hug them." She was a stray herself, of a sort; it was one reason she'd always taken in the strays wherever she was. "My dog, she was a stray before I got her, and her unborn pups. I dunno what would've happened to her if I hadn't found her." Or if her grandfather hadn't taken her in every time she'd needed it.
Ezra really thought Ariel had pouting down to a science, and if he didn't know she was acting maybe it would have had some kind of effect on him. Instead he just laughed and shook his head. "You're not?" He asked with a teasing smirk, laughing harder as she emphasized her words with a stomp. "I don't know, do you even reach my shoulder?" Granted he wasn't extremely tall by any means, but if he were to guess he'd say there had to be at least a nine inch height different between them.
"Thanks, I'm trying and that's all I really can do I think." he replied with a shrug, because he was trying and so far he did think he was managing fairly well.
"You say highly motivated, I say devious." he said, smirking slightly. "Okay, okay, I'm sold. Adopting a dog is the way to do." Ezra really wasn't picky when it came to how he came about getting a dog, as long as he ended up with one. "Honestly it's probably easier if you don't try and think about what might have happened to her." At least that's what Ezra thought. What ifs were always hard to try and think about, because they obviously didn't happen and yet you could spent hours thinking them over.
Ariel sauntered around the table, gaze briefly going around the booth again in a mental head count before flicking back up to him. She grinned saucily. "Look! Shoulder reached!" she declared, standing next to him, chin tilted up in defiant jest.
"I'll have you know there's not a devious bone in my body, good sir," she told him. Ariel wasn't jsut thinking about how adopting an animal helped the animal--she also knew it saved the other person money in the long run, evne if there might be an adoption fee. She'd known someone back home who bred pureblood hounds, they were expeeeeeensive. "I try not to. You should come by and see her sometime, Tiana and Sunday are always happy to meet new people."
Ezra's gaze followed Ariel as she moved around the table, and he had to laugh when she came to stand next to him just to prove she did in fact reach his shoulder. "Just barely." He answered with mock-seriousness, fighting back the smirk that wanted to appear. "Might want to tip your chin down for a more accurate comparison." Ezra added as he reached out and took hold of her chin, though he didn't tip it down. "And you're not standing on tip-toe are you?"
"Really? I still say those blue eyes are hiding a vast array of mischievous and or devious motives." He remarked with a grin. "After all you've got the perfect disguise, 'cause who's going to believe the pretty blond is devious?" Ezra really was just being a pain and wondered how long Ariel would put up with his teasing before she told him to knock it off. "Yeah? Well if you're inviting me I can't seriously say no, especially not if Tiana and Sunday enjoy meeting new people."

She was obviously happy, leaning toward chattering, glad to see a familiar face despite not minding chatting with strangers.
