Hi - I e-mailed you about this a few days ago, though the address might have been deprecated...
As I go through Prog Book and ReadMe I am collecting things for the newsletter - con logo, pre typed-up versions of award shortlists, Cyberdrome stuff etc. I could bring them along on a CD, or would you like them e-mailed in advance? If so, which address?
Thanks for your email!the_magicianApril 4 2006, 13:03:29 UTC
Yes, I got your earlier email and meant to reply over the weekend, but I was in bed most of the weekend with a cold and so didn't do half the things I'd intended (d'oh!)
Email is good, a CD backup would also be good! Yes, the gmail address is good for sending stuff for the newsletter (I'll download it at home).
This is all wonderful stuff, and I'm terribly grateful!
Who should I talk to about getting the award winners list (obviously it can wait until "on the day" and I'm happy to wait until they are announced, though if an "embargoed" floppy or similar is available then it will be kept safe and unread until such time as the awards issue is ready to print)
And is Simon the person to talk to about programme change sheets etc.? As I see the website says "For up-do-date information, including details of panel participants, see the Read Me or Newsletter"

Let me finish the ReadMe, and Simon mailing the Prog participants, and I'll get back to you. Prod me at the weekend if I have forgotten - it feels like we're juggling well-fed tribbles at the moment.
If I can figure out how to share a couple of wired ethernet connected PCs with a wireless LAN connection (assuming I can get one in the Newsletter office) then we can edit the newsletter in the bar, with people typing articles in either on the wired machines back in the office or just emailing the stuff in.
It's been my dream for a few years now, but I'd hoped to do it sooner or later, and when I heard back from Concussion last month that they did want me to do the newsletter (apparantly they'd emailed me before but it either didn't arrive or was eaten by the spam trap on arrival!) I've been scrambling around to put it into action.
I'd be delighted to get a short article from you on a subject of your choice plus any help you'd like to give with the newsletter :-)
* My powerbook. * My Win98 laptop * A wireless router * Some cables for network and power * some stationary * a Glasgow A-Z left over from Worldcon * openoffice * (Maybe windows on CD - sometimes you need it when you least expect it). * A *small* amount of pink paper left over from a con a few years back. * A few USB keys donated by S Bisson for Worldcon. * Some blank CDs (I dont have a DVD writer in the powerbook) * a bad attitude. * my digital camera. * my multi card reader.
(I expect to be driving so the above kit wont be too much trouble).
In some ways I'm almost tempted to insist that people keying in articles use something like Notepad, just so they don't put in formatting that then has to be stripped out again!
I'll be contacting people like Beyond Cyberdrome, David Wake, Ian Sorensen, the Chaos Costumers, the gamers, the GAMERz etc. to get brief articles on each of their bits of the convention so that we can run promos in the newsletter to get people along.
I've also started contacting the bids for 2007 and 2008 so that we can get their post-bid information ready for the Sunday afternoon newsletter.
And (as mentioned by the fantastic bugshaw above), we should have the nominees for the various awards in electronic format so we can get the awards issue mapped out and just have to drop in the winners (and their photos) at the con

Why don't you collect up some V for Vendetta reviews as there's a panel on it?

No problem. Only one person should be doing the layout - most others will be using text editors or similar.
Likewise it doesnt really matter what people use for picture editing so long as they are familiar with it. PSP sounds fine. (I used to use it a lot).
Yes the wireless router has several wired ports as well.
