That worry spiked for a moment when he spied Gabrielle on the path, but her cheerful expression did a great deal to reassure him. "Gabrielle," he greeted with a wave of his hand as he approached. "Might I ask, have you been affected? Or do you find yourself unchanged?"

"I have yet to change colors or bend myself fantastically or disappear, though there's still time left, I suppose. These things do tend to last a few days." His gaze drifted briefly to her basket of goods and he nodded toward it. "I thought for a moment you had developed the power to create baked goods from thin air."

Then she laughed. "Oh no, not at all, unless you consider baking out of thin air. I thought people might need some comfort food after developing strange new powers." Her hand fished into the basket and pulled out two cookies before holding them out to Archie. "Here, I think you could use them as well."

"So what've you got, some kind of fabulous baking power?" she asked with a grin, well aware that reintroductions would likely be in order.

From what Anne could tell, Matthew could sound like whomever he pleased, including herself. But for the time being Matthew was content not to sound like people at all, but like nearly any-no, every-animal he knew or just met.
In this particular instance, when they encountered a woman on the path, he ran up to her barking like a dog. No, not like a dog, but in an uncanny imitation of Holly's whine when she wanted a treat.

When the mother got closer, Gabrielle looked up at her. "If it's alright with your mother, I have a treat for you. Fresh baked cookies to help sooth people's nerves." She explained for the woman's benefit.

Anne just sighed and nodded her head and was glad he was at least talking again, for as much as she enjoyed the bird calls and the sound of the ocean waves, they were difficult to communicate with.

She set the basket down and after shuffling through it, offered one cookie to the little boy and a few to his mother. "Remember, good puppies get treats." She said in mock firmness as she handed the cookie over.
