All morning, Gabrielle had been hearing about people gaining extraordinary powers and about both the celebrating and disasters that usually came with such a thing. She wanted to help those who needed comforting and it had taken a while but she'd finally come up with something she knew most people would like ( Read more... )

It wasn't Wanda's day. After discovering her particular... quirk (she refused to refer to changing sexes a power when it practically felt like an average Friday to her by that point), she'd spent almost an hour alternating between drying off and flopping around in the water like a moron trying to determine just what had triggered it and if there was more to it than that. Her efforts had amounted to a whole lot of nothing, and she was out of ideas beyond just going about her day once more until she figured it out. She was just on her way to the Compound for a shower (and a shave, since she apparently needed one now), when she spotted Gabrielle looking relatively unscathed. Not that that meant anything.

"So what've you got, some kind of fabulous baking power?" she asked with a grin, well aware that reintroductions would likely be in order.

Not at all disturbed at being addressed by someone she didn't know, Gabrielle just smiled at him. "No, just making some comfort food for those affected. I figured people would need it." She reached into her basket and pulled out a few to offer to the man. "What about you? Anything fantastic happen to you today?"

"That's definitely one word for it," Wanda replied with a laugh, tired but genuine. A few more would be 'business as usual', since this seemed to happen to her with alarming regularity. "Let's just say that I could definitely use the comfort and leave it at that."

"Well, I hope you like cookies then because it's about the only comfort I have to offer, unless you'd like a story." Gabrielle said with a soft laugh, offering him some of her cookies.

"I am an enormous fan of cookies," Wanda said, grinning as she reached out to grab a couple of the more unfamiliar-looking ones. "Not that I've got anything against stories, either. What kind of cookies are these?"

"They're Greek. They're the cookies I used to make back home when I needed cheering up so I thought others might like them while things were a little crazy." Gabrielle pointed out a few while saying their names, brushing her hand against his.

Wanda had never considered herself a sucker for foreign languages, the odd night when Aurora was getting her French on aside, but something about the way the syllables rolled elegantly off of Gabrielle's tongue made her stop, made her listen, made her... not really want to think of herself as a her so much anymore. Quickly but gently, she reached out to put one large hand around Gabrielle's wrist, something in her expression changing as she did so. "You... don't say. And what about the other ones?" she asked with an immediacy that one didn't tend to hear where cookies were concerned.

Gabrielle happily continued explaining, rattling off Greek words but making sure they were in a context the other would understand, not noticing that she was being humored. That is, until she looked up into the man's eyes and she trailed off at the fondness she saw there.

"I didn't get your name..."

"Call me Walter," Wanda said after a brief moment spent scrambling. This way, if -- God forbid -- she found herself rebuffed, she could always try again once she was feeling a little more back to normal. "I'll answer to just about anything, though, especially if you're the one saying it."

"You're too kind." Gabrielle said with a happy flush on her cheeks. It had been a while since someone had been so amorousness of her. "It's a pleasure to meet you Walter. I'm Gabrielle. I haven't seen you before, are you new?"
