Although Elizabeth had been thinking of it since encountering Sonya and her acquaintance sparring. She not have found time to spar with anyone yet - part of her had held back on doing so given how long it had been since she'd crossed swords with anyone even in practice. There was no shame in losing to someone more skilled when it was mere practice ( Read more... )

It was much cooler to ride out in the jungle than the beach, with its shade and helping Penny become used to people. Without a sidesaddle (not that that's ever stopped her before), Felicity has taken to wearing jeans while riding, noting that they're eaiser to clean then wearing stockings.

She was riding along the boardwalk when she saw someone with a sword, and she was surprised when she nudged Penny a little closer to see it was a woman. Felicity could see that she had some skill, but with little experience in even watching swordplay, she wasn't sure if she could judge...

Especially when said sword was turned toward her.

"Beg your pardon." She quickly apologized, falling into her 'old' way of speaking from surprise. "Twas only watching." Penny snickered a bit and she pulled on the reins to keep her from running.

It was not anyone familiar but Elizabeth hardly meant to go around threatening children. She wasn't threatening anyone - merely making sure she would be able to if needed. And she appeared to have startled the horse as well. "That's alright," she said. "I was only practising. I didn't mean to startle your horse."

She may've not intended to threaten anyone, but Felicity would've certainly considered holding a sword out to be a little threatening.

"It's alright, Penny just startles easily." She leaned forward and stroked her horse's neck. "Tis why I take her out through the jungle, so she may get used to be around people-and it's not so hot among the trees." She admitted.

Elizabeth sheathed the sword putting off practice now she had company and glanced over at Weatherby who was still quite content batting the plastic toys about. She nodded - it was certainly more pleasant amongst the shade provided by the trees. "Well as long as she's used to you," Elizabeth said. "I suppose that's the important thing." Elizabeth had had a pony when she was little and lived in England but when they arrived in Port Royal and it was still uncivilised, riding had been curtailed by her father who had worried - not entirely unreasonably - that Elizabeth would stray outside the grounds of government house and get herself in some mischief.

Jeyne had not anticipated, when she had decided to call upon Elizabeth, that she would be in the yard with a sword. She thought for a moment she ought not disturb her practise, and then realised that little Weatherby was there as well. Perhaps she should go and offer to mind the babe for her? At any rate, she waited until Elizabeth could see her before waving in greeting, as she did not wish to startle her.

Elizabeth finished out the form and then sheathed the sword when she recognised that it was only Jeyne. "Good afternoon, Jeyne," she said which made Weatherby burble in mimicry even if he could only at this stage manage nonsense.

"I didn't mean to interrupt," Jeyne said. "You needn't stop on my account, truly. I just came to say hello." She nodded to the sword. "I've never seen a woman grown as good with a blade as you are."

"Thank you," Elizabeth said, aware that if this was not a compliment that would apply if she had not started practising again or if she didn't keep it up. "But I could do with a break - I haven't had the most uninterrupted practice anyway." Not that Weatherby had technically interrupted - he hadn't cried much or anything but Elizabeth did have to keep some of her focus on him. And lately she had found herself not minding that. "Would you like something to drink?," she asked and picked Weatherby up, pausing her practice for now. Even with the sword at her belt Elizabeth managed Weatherby more easily than she used to (the fact he was bigger and less fragile seeming also helped with this if she was honest. He flailed his arms at Jeyne clearly pleased to have the attention of more than one person.

Weatherby kicked his feet and murmured baby nonsense at the sound of his name. It was as close a greeting as he was able to manage. "No, not at all," Elizabeth said, lowering the sword. "Hello Scorpion," it was an unusual name - though Elizabeth had known worse amongst the pirates where few legal names were in use. "Are you well?"

"When I can," she said, with another glance at Weatherby. It was perhaps not the best practice but then only being able to fight when there were no distractions was not practical either.

His next question makes her smile because when she had learnt to fight - she had been no more than the governor's daughter and fiancé to a blacksmith no matter that Will had been a pirate deep down. But she'd had practice of her skills and greater development of them at sea. "I was Captain of the Empress, a pirate ship." Pirate King was a title that would mean little to anyone here as would Pirate Lord - though they still meant something to her.

It was like Special warfare school all over again, or at least the training was reminiscent of it: leaving muscles sore and crying out for mercy. And Sonya was still getting back into shape after being 'at rest' for a month.

She was heading back to her hut when she passed by the Hidden Hamlet and saw Elizabeth with her sword. Sonya had yet to get one from her, and now seemed as good as any time-lord knew, after a six mile trek they would both be evenly matched more so.

"Afternoon." She said, walking over.

Elizabeth lowered the sword when she realised it was someone at least vaguely familiar. "Hello Sonya," she said. She sort of admired that both times she had seen Sonya she either had been fighting or looked like she might have been. "Busy day?"she asked - not that Elizabeth likely looked better after a afternoon of stop and starting sword practice.

She nodded, brushing her bangs from her face. "There's said to be openings for the ITF, and the training to get in is rough."

"Decided to get back into swordsmenship, then?" She stretched out her shoulders to keep them from seizing up, just barely cringing when she felt one pop.

Sonya looked over at Weatherby, not sure on just how Elizabeth felt on being a mother, but she had to give her credit for putting on a brave (albeit exhausted) face about it. Not that it would've made much of a difference, but there was something to be said about facing something than denying it or giving up on it.

Elizabeth had about as much interest in the ITF as she did anything else organised on the island and she wouldn't go to them if she needed help either. Though James' likely would so at least one of them was interested.

"I am," she said. "Attempting it anyway - it's not been the most directed practice but it's better than nothing." And it had been a better practice than she had expected - Weatherby had been quiet and content. He could have objected to being left to his own devices.
