Although Elizabeth had been thinking of it since encountering Sonya and her acquaintance sparring. She not have found time to spar with anyone yet - part of her had held back on doing so given how long it had been since she'd crossed swords with anyone even in practice. There was no shame in losing to someone more skilled when it was mere practice ( Read more... )

Weatherby kicked his feet and murmured baby nonsense at the sound of his name. It was as close a greeting as he was able to manage. "No, not at all," Elizabeth said, lowering the sword. "Hello Scorpion," it was an unusual name - though Elizabeth had known worse amongst the pirates where few legal names were in use. "Are you well?"

"When I can," she said, with another glance at Weatherby. It was perhaps not the best practice but then only being able to fight when there were no distractions was not practical either.

His next question makes her smile because when she had learnt to fight - she had been no more than the governor's daughter and fiancé to a blacksmith no matter that Will had been a pirate deep down. But she'd had practice of her skills and greater development of them at sea. "I was Captain of the Empress, a pirate ship." Pirate King was a title that would mean little to anyone here as would Pirate Lord - though they still meant something to her.

"Yes," Elizabeth said. "And no," she admitted. "It wasn't quiet when I first arrived. The island tricks were harsher - I woke up in the dinosaur territory unexpectedly one day not long after I arrived and many of the island were plagued with visions that appeared on Halloween. There were a lot of deaths." She checked on Weatherby again - just a glance. "But since then it's been more than quiet." As much as an upheaval of her life, Weatherby had been, one she was belatedly grateful about - she could hardly blame him on the island.

Weatherby began to squirm - either he had run out of patience or knew he was being talked about. Elizabeth suspected that latter might be beyond him but perhaps. Anyway she picked him up before any crying could start and he seemed cheered by this victory. "Yes," she said. "He's only six months old and I've been here nearly three years." Elizabeth considered Scorpion's topics of conversation. "You've not been here long I take it?"

Elizabeth could understand that - the island was just odd. Though she thought more so for those like herself who came from a time before some of things on the island. "Where was your home before?" she asked curiously. He had an oriental look about him but that covered vast areas and Elizabeth had only ever been to Singapore - and had hardly been there to see the sights.

It was not a term she knew but Elizabeth had been well read enough even if a classical education was not offered to girls. And his words about having a life confirmed her suspicion. "Many people come here from death," she said. "My husband appeared immediately after his death and the island healed him. But do you mean to say you came from the after life?"

It immediately made her think of the locker. Elizabeth did not believe in heaven. She had never been very religious (Church had always been so boring) and her time at sea had cured of her any lingering belief in god. But she knew were powers that were not exactly earthly - Calypso for one. Aztec curses for another. She might have thought the island itself another strange version of the locker if she hadn't known for certain she'd arrived here perfectly alive.

The idea of wanting vengeance that badly is not unfamiliar to Elizabeth. And she would like to think she wouldn't go quietly though she might draw the line at being a spirit. And clearly she can see a fault in that bargain right away - how could he have vengeance if he couldn't remember his life. The tournament had been mentioned the other day. "But you weren't forced to participate?" she asked curious over the phrasing. Fighting in a tournament does not sound very vengeful to Elizabeth - it sounds like he was being used. It would seem most bargains involving life beyond death were little more than tricks no matter how she looked at it.

There had been a time when Elizabeth would probably have signed up for most things if it had come with the chance of offering Cutler Beckett or Davy Jones a painful death. It was an impulse she understood. But the look was worrying, a little, the only deaths Elizabeth had felt guilty over were Jack's and to a much lesser extent Ragetti's. She'd never enjoyed killing. And even though it was looking at Weatherby that made that look fade, she still stepped between him and her son. Just in case. "And now you're stuck here," she said. "With a quiet life," like everyone else. No wonder he has asked her about the transition.
