The problem, Cable thought, with living on an island where the only real danger was the local wildlife was that animals tend to attack entirely based on their own private whims and so don't follow any particular pattern. It was an inconvenient trait, in that not only did it make security a lot harder, it also meant that no matter how long Cable ( Read more... )

Logan was taking the long way home, as he often did, and though usually he walked right by anyone he didn't know, there were some things that couldn't be ignored. Tilting his head slightly to the side, he took in the man, and then his trap, before returning his attention to the man once more.

"Let me guess," he said slowly. "You're hunting wabbits?"

His lips curled slightly, and he was smirking as he stepped a little closer. "Maybe a roadrunner or two?"

"The coyote's the one in charge," Cable replied dryly as he picked up one of the boulders and moved it back towards the tree. "I just cash the checks."

Logan quirked a brow, having half expected a confused look and then to be ignored. More often than not, his jokes and pop culture references were lost on his fellow islanders. Which, if you asked him, was such a shame. He was totally funny when other people knew what he was talking about.

Snorting softly, he watched the other man move the bolder before leaning lightly against one of the nearby trees. "Seriously though, what's with the trap?" he asked, not bothering to introduce himself as he pried into the stranger's business.

"You trigger it, you get hit by boulders," Cable explained helpfully as he turned around to pick up another one, well aware that that wasn't the question he was actually being asked.

"Unless," he added, "you're very fast."

"Practice," Cable replied with a smile as he picked up one of the boulders with his metal left hand.

"Keeps me fast," he added as he pulled back his arm and launched the boulder in Zell's direction.

"I've always liked to be different," Cable replied casually.

"I would be happy to spar though, if you're offering."

Not that he couldn't dig up Wade or Terry if he really wanted to, but it would be nice to test his skills against someone new.

Peter had sprang up into the nearest tree as soon as the trap started going off but was still watching with big round eyes. There were traps and then there were very amazing traps that were so clever they impressed even him.

"That," he breathed as he looked up over at Cable. "was brilliant."

This was one of those latter traps.

Cable smiled in response to that. It was always nice to provoke enthusiasm.

"Thank you, Peter. I try my best."

When it was clear that no other boulders were going to come rushing out of the underbrush to crush him, Peter clambered back down to the ground.

"What are you going to use it for?"

"Oh, I'll think of something, I'm sure," he replied. "Now I know I can build one."
