It'd been one of those nights where she'd kept herself up, running and jumping and flipping, training until she couldn't even stand. The last thing Yuffie remembered was letting herself flop down in the sand with a water bottle not far off, feeling the warm pressure of Cloud the chocobo settling himself down next to her for the night. They didn't ( Read more... )

"Holy shit, you got two of 'em now?" Joe asked as he approached, his head tipped to the side as he studied the new chocobo. It was still pretty fucking weird for him to see these things, but he'd gotten used to Cloud, even if he still outright refused to ride the damn thing. "When did this happen?"

"Just now, I guess," Yuffie said. She was just accepting things showing up now, so there was no surprise that magically Joe was there too. "That's weird. But weird is in, I guess."

She hopped up and whistled for them to come over. Cloud's response was immediate, the other one taking a few moments to catch on.

"Everything in this place is fucking weird," Joe pointed out with an amused grin, watching the two of them. "So does it come pre-named or do you have to give it a name? And, hey, how do you tell if these things are boys or girls?"

"You look for the dangly bits, just like with anything," Yuffie said, and flounced over to check the collar. "Nope, no name. I'll have to think about it. Unless you're gonna let me call it Captain Joe McGeezerpants."

Lee was on his morning run of the island, having decided that taking a new route wasn't such a bad idea. The Fleet had gotten him used to routine-- the same thing, day in and day out sometimes, but that didn't mean that he was going to completely keep to it on the island.

Running down the beach, he happened upon Yuffie and her giant bird.

...or rather, two giant birds.

"Oh, gods," Lee said, stopping, "Since when are there two?"

Yuffie squealed a little bit, clapping her hands. "Lee! I just woke up here and there was another one! And it's black, so... well, more possibilities." Like breeding, for one. And travel.

She doubted that even if she managed a Gold, it would never get her off-island, but it'd be something to work on.

"What do you mean, possibilities?" Lee asked, both eyebrows raised. He really hoped she wasn't going to try something frakking crazy like riding them both at the same time or something.

Though he wouldn't have been surprised if that was exactly what she was talking about.

"What do you think I mean?" Yuffie looked at him as if he was the crazy one. "If one of them's male and the other woman's a female... jeez, Lee, you have a girlfriend, can't she explain this to you? BABY CHOCOBOS!"

Lily had only been walking on the beach, but she came to an abrupt stop at the sight of the two bird-like creatures, only pleased that there was someone -- and someone she knew, no less, if under slightly dubious circumstances -- was there with them and that they weren't running wild on the island. She had a tendency to get nervous around strange animal-type things, even ones so presumably innocent as these. It wasn't her fault.

"Woah," she said, eyes wide, as she somewhat hesitantly approached Yuffie. "Are both of these yours?" She was pretty sure she'd seen one of them around before, but definitely not two.

"You bet! One's named after Cloud and I haven't named the other one yet," Yuffie said. It was black, so maybe Zack? Of course, naming it after Sephiroth would be the funniest.

Huh, she'd never noticed before that her two favorite brooders were dating women of the chocolate persuasion. Maybe that was just some kind of thing they had.

Knowing that they were Yuffie's, Lily could relax a little, if maybe not as much as she'd have liked. She'd been warned, after all, to be careful around her. She smiled, though, stepping a little closer. "Got any ideas?" she asked, glancing over at the two bird-things again. "They're kinda cute."

"They're not just cute," Yuffie enlightened her. "They're also extremely useful, smart, and clean. Way better than horses, and better for the Planet than cars and motorcycles." For someone who'd gone on and on about stopping Shinra, Cloud sure did forget there were other threads to the Planet, like his penis-enhancement-mobile.

It wasn't the first time Aeris hadn't seen Yuffie go to bed in the dojo or wake up there in the morning, so it was merely curiosity that had her wandering the beach. It was difficult to miss the two Chocobos on an otherwise mostly empty beach, of course, but she made her way first to where Yuffie was.

"When did you breed that Chocobo?" She smiled, glancing over at it. She supposed there wouldn't have been many better things to do in the two years after they saved the world than to breed Chocobos. She just hadn't expected that another would arrive here. Clearly, the island did not want Cloud lonely. Og course, no one did.

"I didn't," Yuffie said. If she was surprised by Aeris's appearance, she didn't show it. Of course Aeris, even without crazy Cetra powers, would just show up unsurprised by more birds. "I think it's some kind of present. 'cos how would I have bred it with only one?"

She tilted her head to the side, curiously. If Yuffie had never bred it back home, it seemed odd that there would be another one here. Her tone and words didn't imply that it was anyone else's.

"Perhaps the island didn't want Cloud to be lonely?" She smiled brightly, and glanced over at Yuffie. "What are you going to name the Chocobo?"

"Well, it makes the most sense to name him Zack," she said. "I mean, just look at 'em. Him..." She trailed off, and then went to double check that. "Huh. Oops..."

"Yuffie?" Even though he'd only met her once at the party, well, twice if you count the midnight kiss, he'd remembered her name because how many times did you hear a name like Yuffie? It was pretty unusual, even for him. But what was more unusual were the giant birds that were standing right there.

"What are those?" And will they eat me? Kon wasn't worried about that at all. Okay, maybe a little, but he'd never admit it in a million years.

"Pretty boy McKissyFace," Yuffie greeted him. Mostly because she'd been waaaaay too drunk to remember his name. "Yeah, I remember you. These are chocobos. They're not chickens, they won't hurt you, and you can't fricking eat them, you got all that?"

Boys were dumb. She was just being helpful.

"All I'm saying is that I've never seen something like that before," Kon said, holding up his hands in surrender. "I'm not planning on eating anything, promise. And my name is Conner, not Pretty boy McKissyFace. Tim would have torment fodder for a month if he heard that."

Not to mention what Cassie would do to him. It was a thought that made him wince and expect pain in uncomfortable places.

"Conner, Conner," repeated Yuffie, mostly to commit it to memory. "What, is Tim the boyfriend? You swing both ways, buddy?"

"Kweh," suggested Cloud, as if to remind her to be nice.

"Pffft," she said back.
