It'd been one of those nights where she'd kept herself up, running and jumping and flipping, training until she couldn't even stand. The last thing Yuffie remembered was letting herself flop down in the sand with a water bottle not far off, feeling the warm pressure of Cloud the chocobo settling himself down next to her for the night. They didn't ( Read more... )

Lee was on his morning run of the island, having decided that taking a new route wasn't such a bad idea. The Fleet had gotten him used to routine-- the same thing, day in and day out sometimes, but that didn't mean that he was going to completely keep to it on the island.

Running down the beach, he happened upon Yuffie and her giant bird.

...or rather, two giant birds.

"Oh, gods," Lee said, stopping, "Since when are there two?"

Yuffie squealed a little bit, clapping her hands. "Lee! I just woke up here and there was another one! And it's black, so... well, more possibilities." Like breeding, for one. And travel.

She doubted that even if she managed a Gold, it would never get her off-island, but it'd be something to work on.

"What do you mean, possibilities?" Lee asked, both eyebrows raised. He really hoped she wasn't going to try something frakking crazy like riding them both at the same time or something.

Though he wouldn't have been surprised if that was exactly what she was talking about.

"What do you think I mean?" Yuffie looked at him as if he was the crazy one. "If one of them's male and the other woman's a female... jeez, Lee, you have a girlfriend, can't she explain this to you? BABY CHOCOBOS!"

Lee didn't get why Yuffie would want one, nevermind multiple giant birds. it seemed like they'd be more trouble than they were worth.

"I guess that's just waht the island was missing," Lee said, sarcastically, "More giant birds."

"Don't be a Jealous Jane," Yuffie told him, and merrily began to inspect the new bird. He seemed like pretty good stock, actually. He? Oh, could she be sure?

She poked her head under the bird.

Whoops.

Lee watched as Yuffie inspected the bird. He could think of far worse things that the island might have given her, so even another frakking giant bird was probably for the best.

"So," He said, setting his hands on his hips, "Does it have a name yet?"

"Not yet," Yuffie said, and pushed around to check Cloud.

WHOOPS.

"Aw, shit," she said aloud. "You know, you don't pay attention ONE TIME when Billy's explaining the sex parts, and..."

Sigh.

He raised an eyebrow, not getting what the problem was at first.

"Let me guess-- no baby birds any time soon?" He asked.

"Oh no," Yuffie said, popping back up. "I just got them mixed up. Cloud's not the man I thought he was." She made a face. "He'll make a good mommy, I guess."

Lee almost laughed.

"Well, it's better than if they'd both turned out to be male," He said.

...from a certain point of view, of course.

Yuffie just grinned. "Do you really think I'd let a little thing like biology stop me? From anything?"

The laws of science were for pussies.

"I really don't think you'd have much of a choice," Lee laughed. "Besides, I'm pretty sure Cloud wouldn't be too happy about a sudden sex change, were that the case."

"I read that frogs can change their parts," Yuffie said. "If frogs can do it, other things must be able to do it too." This was all a dangerously lot like Hojo, but she just couldn't give up an argument.

Lee hadn't though the conversation could get any weirder, but apparently he'd been wrong.

"...I don't think I've heard of that before."

"Am I going to have to start assigning some readings to you?" And she'd do it, too. Luckily, Lee was probably aware that she meant nearly everything she said. "You know, we had a Materia at home that could turn anything into a frog. I wonder...."
