Aeris knew it was going to be a wonderful day from the moment she woke. The rain was pouring outside, and she had found a wonderful new outfit in the clothing box. The sound of the rain was akin to a living, breathing static, that blurred out the silence of the island, and brought every little detail of it to life. She had waited at first, to make ( Read more... )

It wasn't cabin fever, per se, but...yeah, it kinda was.
He'd spent the past few weeks keeping to himself, still shaken up from arriving at this remote location. If he hadn't been hiding out in the compound somewhere, brushing everybody off who tried to talk to him, he would walk back down to the beach and just...stare. Not long, just long enough to have a smoke, but Larry couldn't help but feel that if he'd come from the water, there could maybe be a way to get back. But so far, no boats. Not even a fucking raft with bedsheets as sails.

It was raining today. And not just a nice misting, a full-on downpour. But with everybody crowded inside of the compound, there was no solace, no place for him to be by himself, still trying to sort out the mess his life had seemingly turned into overnight.

So off he went, shrugging on a rain jacket, and grabbing the last cigarette from his pack, as well as a lighter, because sometimes you just need a goddamn smoke.

She noticed the arrival of someone else almost immediately. The sound of the rain was different, and the boardwalk echoed with the sound of footsteps that were not her own.

Curious, she glanced toward her new company. The man was unfamiliar, but she smiled brightly anyway. "Its a wonderful change of pace, don't you think?"

Larry managed a half-smile.

"Change of pace? You're telling me."

He click-clicked the lighter and lit his cigarette, taking one long drag from it and dropping his hand back to his side.

Change of pace. Yeah, Larry thought. You could call it that.

She shrugged, still smiling. "But its a nice change. Its cool and eventful." She nodded. She didn't see many other people out, so she assumed not everyone agreed, but that still meant that people had to gather together to avoid it, rather than spread across the island.

Zack smiled at her from under a tree, his arms folded across his chest. There wasn't much reprieve from the rain there, but it gave the illusion of cover. He'd been watching her dance around for a short while after coming upon her on his way to some place else.

"The feeling is mutual," he shouted to her over the rhythm of the rain. He really was happy, though maybe not enough that he would dance in the middle of the boardwalks. He'd need a bit more convincing for that.

While she turned quickly in surprise, she did not start. She was in much too good a mood to jump. She grinned when she registered the familiar voice to be Zack, and waved.

"It's so lovely."

"Yes it is. It doesn't remind me of anything from home."

"This is a new start." He looked past her to watch the rain with a smile on his face. It was a new start. No one had died this time.

She grinned, spinning in a circle once more. The fabric of her dress managed to spin out around her, despite its waterlogged state. "New and exciting! I've never seen rain like this."
