It's cold out there, and Jim just isn't built for that kind of cold. It's nice for a vacation, but only when he can go outdoors to have some fun and come in again when he gets cold. Which is exactly what he's doing with the island winter: going out and enjoying the snow, but coming back indoors again as soon as he's done. It's the opposite of how ( Read more... )

It was far too cold, and Satine had no desire to be outside. All the sounds from the rec room caught her attention, and she leaned through the doorway with a curious expression on her face. There were too many blasting sounds and..was that outer space? The stars, and...it made no sense.

"What is that you are watching?" She blinked again in surprise, walking through the doorway of the rec room.

"I don't know, but I haven't ever seen anything like it before," says Jim, his eyes hardly tearing away from the screen. "I missed the beginning, but that girl there? I think she's some kind of space princess."

"A princess?" Now Satine was even more interested - and, it must be confessed, a great deal more confused. Not caring now that she had never seen this man before, and even less that this film was odd, she came around to sit down beside him. "She must be a very strange sort of princess, then. None of this looks like anything I have heard of. What are those furry things? Little creatures..running about and talking!"

"She's not like any princess I've ever seen," says Jim, not that he's ever seen a princess. At least, not as far as he knows. "I don't know what those furry things are, some kind of alien I guess? I think I missed that part when I went upstairs to get something to drink."

"Buttercup?" Joffrey looked derisively at the screen, "What sort of name is that for a supposed princess?"

Never mind that he'd no idea what he even looking at, "What sort of devilry is this?"

"Sounds like something that a little girl'd name her puppy," Jim agrees, but he's kind of enjoying the movie all the same. It's a little odd, but it's fun. "You haven't seen this before either?"

"Does this look the sort of thing I would watch?" His head was held high, his look no less derisive than it had been before.

"Well, I never met you before," says Jim, spreading his arm out along the back of the couch so he can look behind him better. "I don't know what you like."

Lionel's mostly bored, and when he wanders through the rec room and sees Jim watching Star Wars, it's practically an invitation. It feels a little weird watching it with someone other than Jack, but he walks over and sits himself down on the couch next to Jim.

"Apparently," he says, tilting his head to watch a bunch of aliens play in a band in a bar, "this is a huge classic in the future."

"This?" says Jim, looking at him in surprise. It's the first time he's torn his eyes away from the screen since he sat down. "But it's just a science fiction movie, with funny looking Martians and spaceships."

"That's what I said," Lionel says, wholeheartedly agreeing with Jim, though he'll never tell Jack that. "There are even two more movies after this one."

He frowns a bit when a vaguely familiar face shows up on the screen. "I think I've seen that guy around."

"Which one?" Jim asks him. "The old guy? I haven't seen very many old guys around here. You really think we could have a famous actor here on the island?"

Cecily had been on this island for almost five months now and she had yet to see a movie for they had never interested her before. But when she came upon Jim watching one, her interest suddenly peaked. She snuck up behind him and quickly placed her hands over his eyes, letting a little laugh escape from her smiling lips.

"You're not very good at being sneaky," says Jim with a laugh of his own, reaching up and taking both of her hands in his. "I'd know that laugh anyplace."

Cecily let out a small laugh once more, leaning over his shoulder and gently kissing him on the cheek. "That was, of course, the test, Mister Stark." She turned her head to look at the screen in front of them. There was a moment of pause where Cecily merely watched the movie, not having the faintest idea of what was happening. "Whatever is this?"

"I have no idea," admits Jim, looking away from the screen and at Cecily for a few moments. "I missed the beginning and now I don't know what's happening at all."

The movie that Jim is watching is a prime example of why I don't often see films. Nothing against Hollywood and the makers of fine cinema, but at twenty-one years old, I've had more than enough blood and gore in my life than I can handle and I certainly don't want to spend my time immersing myself in more, fictional as it may be.

"Whoa," I say, because it's the only thing I can think to say as some bank robbery goes wrong and there's a whole lot of shooting. The only one I recognize is Harvey Keitel, although I'm not sure why I even know him.

"Yeah, I don't really know what to make of this," says Jim, looking up at Odd with a bit of discomfort and uncertainty. Not that he has a real problem with the violence, but it's a lot more than he ever expected to see. "They sure didn't show stuff like this on television where I come from."

"They showed it where I came from, but only on cable." My own television set was inherited from Stormy after her death and it was approximately twenty inches wide and had four channels. "That's an awful lots of blood."

Luckily it looks extremely fake. As long as it continues to look fake, I'm sure I can handle it.

"I've never seen that much blood," agrees Jim, "and I've seen blood before." Quite often his own, to be fair. "Are they just going to kill everybody?"
