It's cold out there, and Jim just isn't built for that kind of cold. It's nice for a vacation, but only when he can go outdoors to have some fun and come in again when he gets cold. Which is exactly what he's doing with the island winter: going out and enjoying the snow, but coming back indoors again as soon as he's done. It's the opposite of how he was spending his time before winter came, but at heart Jim's just a warm weather kind of boy.
He hasn't even gone outside at all today; the island's in a bit of upheaval and there's not a lot of fun to be had, and Jim's just trying to stay out of everyone's way. Right now that means sitting downstairs in front of that spectacular giant television and watching some color movie he's never heard of, starring people he's never seen before.
He doesn't know quite what to make of it, but then that's the way of a lot of things on the island and Jim's starting to get used to it.
