It's cold out there, and Jim just isn't built for that kind of cold. It's nice for a vacation, but only when he can go outdoors to have some fun and come in again when he gets cold. Which is exactly what he's doing with the island winter: going out and enjoying the snow, but coming back indoors again as soon as he's done. It's the opposite of how ( Read more... )

It was far too cold, and Satine had no desire to be outside. All the sounds from the rec room caught her attention, and she leaned through the doorway with a curious expression on her face. There were too many blasting sounds and..was that outer space? The stars, and...it made no sense.

"What is that you are watching?" She blinked again in surprise, walking through the doorway of the rec room.

"I don't know, but I haven't ever seen anything like it before," says Jim, his eyes hardly tearing away from the screen. "I missed the beginning, but that girl there? I think she's some kind of space princess."

"A princess?" Now Satine was even more interested - and, it must be confessed, a great deal more confused. Not caring now that she had never seen this man before, and even less that this film was odd, she came around to sit down beside him. "She must be a very strange sort of princess, then. None of this looks like anything I have heard of. What are those furry things? Little creatures..running about and talking!"

"She's not like any princess I've ever seen," says Jim, not that he's ever seen a princess. At least, not as far as he knows. "I don't know what those furry things are, some kind of alien I guess? I think I missed that part when I went upstairs to get something to drink."

Satine shook her head, her eyes widening in question. This was all very strange. "And they are so close to the stars!" she said in wonder. "This is impossible. Whose mind came up with this great fiction?"

"I don't know, but we'll probably find out at the end," says Jim. "I've never seen a movie before quite like this one. It almost looks real."

"Maybe there will be some sort of clue along the way." Satine's eyes were still on the screen now, and she couldn't really take them away. Whatever film this was, it was very interesting. The sort of storyline that drew a person in. She'd missed this since the stage.

"Who's that man?"

"The old guy?" says Jim. "He's a ghost I think, some kind of a magic ghost. He just shows up sometimes."

"And here I thought ghosts were malicious, with ill intent," Satine said thoughtfully. "I thought there was a reason to fear them, but this ghost in particular..he does not seem frightening. Just..there to help."

"Yeah, I think some ghosts are good and some ghosts are bad," says Jim. If there is, in fact, such a thing as ghosts. "Just like the kind of people they were when they were alive: some people are good and some people aren't."

Satine nodded slowly in agreement. It was a funny thing to think about, but not completely unpleasant. "I suppose all things can come in good and bad, then," she said. "It is just a matter of what their intentions are. But.." She paused, pointing to the screen with one hand. "I believe he is most certainly bad."
