It's cold out there, and Jim just isn't built for that kind of cold. It's nice for a vacation, but only when he can go outdoors to have some fun and come in again when he gets cold. Which is exactly what he's doing with the island winter: going out and enjoying the snow, but coming back indoors again as soon as he's done. It's the opposite of how ( Read more... )

Lionel's mostly bored, and when he wanders through the rec room and sees Jim watching Star Wars, it's practically an invitation. It feels a little weird watching it with someone other than Jack, but he walks over and sits himself down on the couch next to Jim.

"Apparently," he says, tilting his head to watch a bunch of aliens play in a band in a bar, "this is a huge classic in the future."

"This?" says Jim, looking at him in surprise. It's the first time he's torn his eyes away from the screen since he sat down. "But it's just a science fiction movie, with funny looking Martians and spaceships."

"That's what I said," Lionel says, wholeheartedly agreeing with Jim, though he'll never tell Jack that. "There are even two more movies after this one."

He frowns a bit when a vaguely familiar face shows up on the screen. "I think I've seen that guy around."

"Which one?" Jim asks him. "The old guy? I haven't seen very many old guys around here. You really think we could have a famous actor here on the island?"

"No, the one sitting down - okay, the one who shot the alien," Lionel points out.

If he'd had a drink, Jim's words might have ended up with Lionel accidentally snorting it up his nose. "Uh, I'm pretty sure there must be a couple. Someone who looked like John Lennon used to be here. He was a pretty big musician," he adds.

Jim doesn't know who he is, but he nods anyway. "I guess odds are sooner or later the island is gonna pick up someone famous," he says. "Funny it's one of the guys in this movie, though. That guy there, the one with the darker hair? That's who you're talking about?"

"That's him," Lionel nods. He honestly sometimes forgets that he's friends with James Dean, and Lionel's finding he kind of likes it that way. "Jack's a famous actor," he points out, "so who knows, maybe half the people here are famous and we just don't know it."

"Maybe you're famous and you just never told me," Jim teases him. "And I'd never know the difference. There's nobody on this island who ever looked familiar to me."

My parents and my sister were the big Hollywood stars. Not me," Lionel says with something approaching shyness. "I've only ever seen a couple people from movies and stuff, but that's it."

"Yeah?" says Jim. "For real? Well what do you know, I was closer than I thought. You've seen a couple other people from movies here on the island?"

"Kinda," Lionel answers with a shrug. He's not sure how he feels about lying to Jim, but he's not sure how to explain why most people look at him weirdly most of the time. "They're not all movie stars, either. King Arthur's part of the theatre group, did you know?"

"King Arthur?" says Jim. "Like, the Holy Grail guy? That King Arthur?"
