Pevensie/Snow wedding

Aug 25, 2007 09:28

There could not have been a better day for the wedding had they been able to order it custom-made. The weather was fair and warm, but not too warm, and the late morning sun filtered through the leaves of the trees in the little grove where the heart tree stood. Some benches had been set up near the great white tree for the assembled friends and ( Read more... )

Jim couldn't be happier for the two of them. Jim had hoped everything would go well, and it seemed like everything had just turned out perfectly. It was what they both deserved.

With Pam busy with being in the wedding and all, he had baby duty for the day. Once the reception started he sat himself off to the side, cradling Samantha in his arms. They had managed to find her a bright, cheery yellow dress to wear the day before, and while she seemed unsure of everything going on at first, she had settled down and looked up at everything with wide, curious eyes.

"Things turned out nice today, huh, kiddo?" he asked, grinning when she grabbed onto his finger, making a pleased sounding gurgling sound. "Yeah, my thoughts exactly."

"She seems to be having a good time," said Susan happily, coming over to speak to Jim and her goddaughter. "Your Mum looked very pretty today, didn't she, sweetheart?" she added to Samantha, gently tweaking one of her tiny little toes.

He hadn't notice Susan coming over, and looked up only when he heard her speaking. Sam kicked her bare feet just a little bit, obviously feeling the little pinch.

"Susan," he greeted, looking up at her with a wide grin. "I was wondering when I was going to get time with the bride. You look beautiful. Congratulations."

"Thank you," said Susan, blushing. "And thank you for being here - this sort of thing is so much better with friends and family around. You and Pam have been such good friends to Jon and me, we're so glad you could be here."

Sansa knew it was being a very poor date to ask Caspian to hold Eddara for the ceremony and she worried dreadfully that Eddara might cry. He would have to step away and miss it and if anyone should have to do that it was her. But she couldn't because she was to attend Susan. Caspian had appeared almost amused at her worries and reassured her at once. He told her he was quite certain Eddara would behave wonderfully (he did not look as confident as he sounded there,) but then he made her smile with an octopus hand puppet. Sansa relaxed on that front, handed Eddara to him and settled her daughter in his arms, she kissed Eddara and then Caspian, before directing her concerns where they should be today, on
SusanIt was almost strange to hear any component of Westerosi wedding vows at such a happy wedding for Sansa had almost began to associate them with foreshadowing of ill luck, but she had never attended any wedding in Westeros with such a well matched pair as Susan and Jon ( ... )

"And a great deal of it was thanks to you," said Susan, hugging Sansa tightly. She would not have been able to put it together without Sansa's help, she was certain of that. "With your help with the dress and the cloaks and everything else - thank you so much." Letting go of Sansa, she smiled brightly and said, "Not only did I get a husband today but more family as well, especially a sister." Sansa had long been like a sister to her anyway, but now it was official.

Sansa felt a tiny bit smug,
a sister, not several. "Oh I was glad to do it and you know it," she said. "It was worth all of it to see you standing there in it and Jon's reaction." And it would be even better that Susan was so much closer now in her and Jon's new home. "Have you had anything to eat," she prompted, because there was lots of lovely food and Sansa did not think she'd seen Susan do anything but smile. Not that this was not completely understandable.

"Oh, no, not yet," said Susan, not realising until just then that she was actually hungry. She'd had a bit of fruit that morning but that was all. "My stomach has been in knots all morning from nerves, I could hardly eat a bite. I thought if I did I might be sick right off."

Despite her mixed feelings about the groom, Catelyn had to admit it was a lovely ceremony. She fixed a smile on her face as the party began, standing near the edge of the clearing and looking at the assembled face, most of which were at least recognized, even if she didn't know the names that went with them.

Ned knew well enough that anything involving Jon was difficult for Catelyn, even now, which made him appreciate her presence all the more. He did not allow her to stand on her own for more than a few minutes, fetching cups of wine for them both and handing one to her with a quiet greeting.

Jon was relieved to find his father and Lady Catelyn together; he knew he must thank her for coming to the wedding, but he had not relished the prospect of speaking to her alone. "My lady," he said with a smile and a little bow. "Susan and I are very pleased to have you here today. It would not have been the same without you." Which was, after all, not entirely true, but Jon was too happy today to care. It was kind, and it was true that he would have thought of her today had she not been on the island to witness it. "And thank you once more," he added, turning to his father, "for doing us the honor of presiding. Truly, we would not have had it any other way."

Catelyn tensed as Jon approached them, a blank mask descending. "We wish you happiness in life," she replied stiffly, giving him a small smile. "And I'm glad you've found someone to find it with." Particularly since it meant Jon Snow would be leaving her household at last.

It had been a beautiful wedding. More then any other day Lucy thought that Susan looked like their mother, and she seemed so happy. Lucy'd even managed to not get dirty before the wedding, to stand where she was supposed to, and smile. It hadn't been hard to smile. She'd whispered words to Aslan as they said their vows, asking him to make sure that they were happy and safe.

She had her gift for Jon and Susan wrapped in fabric. More then anything she hoped they liked them. The stars weren't much, but there were four of them, one for each of her brothers and sisters She wished Edmund and Peter were here, but they weren't, and she accepted that.

"You were the most beautiful flower girl ever, Lu," Susan told her sister, giving her a hug. "I'm so glad you were here to stand up with me." She thought of Edmund, and how he would have been glad as well if he were here; he had always approved of Jon and their relationship.

"I am too. You were beautiful. You are beautiful." Lucy hugged her sister back before pulling back to hand her the gift. "I made you something."

"Oh, Lucy, you didn't need to do that," Susan told her. Taking the gift in one hand and Lucy's hand in the other, they went to sit down so that Susan could unwrap it properly. "Did you really make these yourself?" she asked, picking up one of the stars and looking at it. "They're lovely."

The reception was well underway before Jon found a moment to sit down. It felt as though he'd been standing for days, and his feet were protesting. The suit he wore was the most formal thing he'd worn since his arrival here, and he rather wished he could rid himself of the tie-- but all the same, he was enjoying himself very much, as he supposed one was meant to do at one's wedding, and he took a sip of wine and surveyed the assembled guests with a prideful smile.

"Have you seen my husband?" asked Susan teasingly, sitting down beside him; it gave her a little thrill to be able to say the word husband, and it made her smile. "We've only been married an hour or so, I would hate to lose him already. He's quite handsome and very well dressed, so if you see him please point him back in my direction."

Jon's face took on a worried look, and he looked down at his body and patted himself down as if hunting for a missing pair of spectacles. "Forgive me, my lady," he said apologetically, "but I've seen no one matching that description. I'll be sure to send him along to the most beautiful woman on the entire island as soon as I find him, though." And then he grinned, took her hands in his and kissed her firmly on the lips. "I feel as though I want to stand on a chair and shout that I'm married," he said with a wink, "but don't worry, I'm not nearly drunk enough."

"You mustn't get too drunk," Susan laughed, though she'd had a cup or two of wine herself, "for I wouldn't have you asleep under a table this evening." After all the day's excitement, she was looking forward to later, when she would have her new husband all to herself in the relative peace and quiet. She squeezed his hands and added, "I feel as though I should go around to everyone and introduce myself as Mrs Snow."
