Pevensie/Snow wedding

Aug 25, 2007 09:28

There could not have been a better day for the wedding had they been able to order it custom-made. The weather was fair and warm, but not too warm, and the late morning sun filtered through the leaves of the trees in the little grove where the heart tree stood. Some benches had been set up near the great white tree for the assembled friends and ( Read more... )

It had been a beautiful wedding. More then any other day Lucy thought that Susan looked like their mother, and she seemed so happy. Lucy'd even managed to not get dirty before the wedding, to stand where she was supposed to, and smile. It hadn't been hard to smile. She'd whispered words to Aslan as they said their vows, asking him to make sure that they were happy and safe.

She had her gift for Jon and Susan wrapped in fabric. More then anything she hoped they liked them. The stars weren't much, but there were four of them, one for each of her brothers and sisters She wished Edmund and Peter were here, but they weren't, and she accepted that.

"You were the most beautiful flower girl ever, Lu," Susan told her sister, giving her a hug. "I'm so glad you were here to stand up with me." She thought of Edmund, and how he would have been glad as well if he were here; he had always approved of Jon and their relationship.

"I am too. You were beautiful. You are beautiful." Lucy hugged her sister back before pulling back to hand her the gift. "I made you something."

"Oh, Lucy, you didn't need to do that," Susan told her. Taking the gift in one hand and Lucy's hand in the other, they went to sit down so that Susan could unwrap it properly. "Did you really make these yourself?" she asked, picking up one of the stars and looking at it. "They're lovely."

"There's one for each of us. I put a little piece of the wardrobe in each one." She nodded, not sure she should mention Edmund and Peter.

Susan's eyes teared up a little bit, thinking of the two that were not here - and of Mother and Father as well. "That's the sweetest gift I've ever gotten," she said, pulling her sister into a hug. "They'll look lovely in the new house." She hugged Lucy tightly for a moment before letting go, carefully re-wrapping the gift so it wouldn't get dirty. "I miss our brothers," she said, "and nothing will ever replace them, of course, but you've gained some family today as well, you know." She kissed the top of Lucy's head. "Have you met Jon's little sister Arya yet?"

Lucy wished they could have been here too. To see her father walk Susan down the aisle, their mother likely would of cried. But she wasn't going to think of that right now.

"Jon has a younger sister?" She knew he had siblings, she'd met Sansa, but not anyone younger. "Is she here?"

"Yes, she is," said Susan. "She's just a little older than you, and she looks very much like Jon. I think you two would get on quite well. There's Sansa, whom you've met, and Robb, also - he was in the wedding party - and his wife, Jeyne. And then there are two younger brothers, Bran and Rickon, who used to be on the island but aren't anymore, and their mother, Lady Catelyn, who is here as well." Lucy would definitely have liked Bran and Rickon, Susan thought, and she miseed Rickon a great deal herself, graffiti and all ( ... )

Lucy just stared at her wide eyed as she went through the list of names. "I hope not. I'm not very good at tests." It was a large family though, and while confusing, Lucy liked large families. She liked family.

"I was just teasing with you, Lu," said Susan. "There's no test. But the Starks are very dear to me, and I know they'll consider you family as well."

"Sansa is nice, but..." Lucy pursed her lips, not sure if she should tell her sister about that strange day with Catelyn Stark just after she arrived. She couldn't not tell her though. "Her mother, she sees things. Shadows."

"Shadows?" asked Susan, her brows knitting together in puzzlement. "What do you mean, shadows?" Even if she and Lady Catelyn were not exactly the best of friends, she didn't think her at all unstable or delusional, but perfectly normal.

"She kept saying there was a shadow on the rock, and that it would try and hurt us. Kill us maybe. I couldn't see anything Susan." She looked up at her sister, hoping she would know that she wouldn't lie. She never lied. Lucy had avoided the woman after that day.

Susan frowned a little. "Perhaps she was imagining things," she said, "and decided it would be better to be safe than sorry. I'm sure she didn't mean any harm." Just because Jon and Lady Catelyn didn't get on didn't mean she was in the habit of frightening children for no reason; she must have had a cause. She would speak to Robb about it later, she decided, since if something dangerous was going on, he should know, and if his mother was seeing things, he should know that too. But it would keep till after the wedding - everything seemed all right, for now.

"Don't worry about it," said Susan, smoothing Lucy's hair. "I'm sure it's nothing. But I'll talk to Robb about it later, just in case."

Lucy nodded, happy that Susan had listened to her, and would speak to someone about it. "It's a wonderful day Susan." She changed the topic back to happier things. "I'm glad you're happy."

Jon was glad to get a moment to speak to Lucy alone. "Lucy," he said, giving a slight bow and taking a seat next to her. "I'm glad I found you. I wanted to tell you again how glad I am that you'll be living with us." He grinned. "I'm looking forward to having another sister." He didn't know her very well just yet, but what he knew he found to be everything Susan had always said of her; she was true and brave and loved to have fun, and Jon liked her immensely.
