Pevensie/Snow wedding

Aug 25, 2007 09:28

There could not have been a better day for the wedding had they been able to order it custom-made. The weather was fair and warm, but not too warm, and the late morning sun filtered through the leaves of the trees in the little grove where the heart tree stood. Some benches had been set up near the great white tree for the assembled friends and ( Read more... )

The reception was well underway before Jon found a moment to sit down. It felt as though he'd been standing for days, and his feet were protesting. The suit he wore was the most formal thing he'd worn since his arrival here, and he rather wished he could rid himself of the tie-- but all the same, he was enjoying himself very much, as he supposed one was meant to do at one's wedding, and he took a sip of wine and surveyed the assembled guests with a prideful smile.

"Have you seen my husband?" asked Susan teasingly, sitting down beside him; it gave her a little thrill to be able to say the word husband, and it made her smile. "We've only been married an hour or so, I would hate to lose him already. He's quite handsome and very well dressed, so if you see him please point him back in my direction."

Jon's face took on a worried look, and he looked down at his body and patted himself down as if hunting for a missing pair of spectacles. "Forgive me, my lady," he said apologetically, "but I've seen no one matching that description. I'll be sure to send him along to the most beautiful woman on the entire island as soon as I find him, though." And then he grinned, took her hands in his and kissed her firmly on the lips. "I feel as though I want to stand on a chair and shout that I'm married," he said with a wink, "but don't worry, I'm not nearly drunk enough."

"You mustn't get too drunk," Susan laughed, though she'd had a cup or two of wine herself, "for I wouldn't have you asleep under a table this evening." After all the day's excitement, she was looking forward to later, when she would have her new husband all to herself in the relative peace and quiet. She squeezed his hands and added, "I feel as though I should go around to everyone and introduce myself as Mrs Snow."

"Oh no," he assured her, "I don't plan to be. I don't feel as if I need it-- I feel giddy enough already without more wine to help it along." He chuckled. "I think you should. Mrs. Snow. Though I've nothing new to introduce myself as-- perhaps I will just wear a sign. 'Newly married to Susan Pevensie Snow.' Though they can probably read it in my face easily enough," he finished with a smile. He squeezed her hands lightly and kissed her again, feeling as though he might burst with happiness.

"You might not have a new name, but you've something else new," she said, toying with the plain gold band on his finger. She'd had Kate the Blacksmith make it a few weeks ago, along with some other things for their new home. "So everyone will know you for a married man, if your face does not give it away."

"I'd as soon have the sign," he deadpanned, winking. In truth the ring was perfect, and already he'd found himself running his fingers over it, turning it around, feeling it becoming part of him. He hoped he'd never have to take it off. "Please remind me to thank Kate for a job well done- it's very fine work." His fingers linked easily with Susan's, and he was loath to untangle them; part of him felt as giddy as when they first admitted their feelings for one another, as if he needed to be touching her as often as he could manage it. Grinning sideways at her, he murmured, "I am enjoying myself, but I half wish it were over already and we were alone."

"So do I," said Susan, tracing her thumb in a lazy circle along the inside of Jon's palm. They really would have the house to themselves, as Lucy was going to spend a few nights with Caspian and Eustace after the wedding for that very reason. There were some things she and Jon had been talking about as of late, and perhaps it was time they would do more than talk about it. "But we'll only have one wedding, and so we should enjoy it while it lasts." She let go of his hand long enough to reach over and loosen his tie just a little, straighting it a bit in the process. "You look very handsome, all dressed up."

"As do you," he said with a little smile, his eyes very intent on hers. His hand cupped her cheek as he kissed her again, his thumb dropping to trace her collarbone briefly before retreating to his knee. "I will be good," he promised, though his eyes twinkled. "You know I would not turn away from the chance to have all my family and friends together in one place. At least not until later."

"No, I know you wouldn't," said Susan, her eyes twinkling just as his were, with a bit of flirtatious mischief. She felt the way she had at the party in Narnia, enjoying it immensely but also looking forward to afterward, when she could be alone with Jon; only this time they wouldn't be sneaking off but leaving together as husband and wife. "Besides, I insist that you dance with me - now that I know you are a good dancer, I will insist on it whenever the opportunity presents itself."

"I should never have let you find out," he said, shaking his head mock-regretfully. "What a tragic fate-- Jon Snow, doomed to a life of dancing." He grinned then, and said, "You really are the most beautiful woman on the island, you know. And I say that with only a slight bias."

"Doomed to a life of dancing with his wife, yes, how tragic," Susan agreed solemnly, then burst out laughing. "Careful, Lord Snow," she teased him, "if you keep talking like that, we may not make it through the rest of this party before I have to have my way with you."

"Is that right, Lady Snow?" he laughed, his eyebrows up and a smirk on his face. "Well far be it for me to prevent the Lady from having her way. Only don't tell her, I think I might enjoy it." He waggled his eyebrows at her, laughing, thinking he truly had never been happier in his whole life.

"I don't need to tell her," said Susan mischeviously, "she already knows you enjoy it." Laughing, she got to her feet and took Jon's hands in hers. "I'll claim that dance with you, Lord Snow," she said, tugging him to his feet. "Your mother will want to dance with you, as will Sansa and Jeyne and Pam - and I think you should ask Arya too, for you are the only one she won't stab for asking - but your wife gets the first and the last."

"Indeed," Jon said, not even pretending to be grumpy about the dancing. Just then he could not have denied her anything even had he wanted to, but he found he was not nearly so self-conscious about dancing in front of people as he had once been. "You see, you are an excellent teacher," he murmured as he took her in his arms and began moving easily through the steps. "Two years ago I would not even have known where to put my arms, let alone my feet."

Pam had seen Jon earlier during the reception, but hadn't gotten a moment to talk to him, so when she finally caught him sitting down, she snuck up behind him a minute or two later and took a seat next to him.

"So... I heard something about you getting married today. So odd, don't you think?" She smiled widely at him before leaning in to wrap him up in a tight hug.
