S.N.A.P.E. September-October Art Contest

Sep 18, 2006 12:45

J. K. Rowling has said that someone loved Snape. I can't help but feel that it must have been his mother, the former Eileen Prince. He put her maiden name in his private nickname, identifying with her in secret, perhaps deriving strength from that identification, while maintaining his father's surname in public. ( No 'Lord Voldemort' for him. )

I'm really not an artist, but I had to do this:

I love this, Severus spying on his mother from the bushes. When I look at the original painting again, I see someone there! It's very inspired that you saw it first.

The hedges are beautiful, by the way -- all the dots. It must have taken forever.

Thanks for your entry!

Thank you! I'm glad you can see the the story in the picture. Btw. I forgot to mention I named it Spy Kid and I see you named it Spy Boy. :D

Better late than never, eh? ;)

Here's my entry, "In the Knight Bus", based on "In the Omnibus". The other lady was even less used to riding the Knight Bus and is lying sprawled somewhere out of the frame - trust me, I know ;).

This is very well done. I love the way you show 3-dimensional space and motion, here and on your other recent S.N.A.P.E. entry. Incredibly sophisticated, for ArtPad!

Thanks for your entry. You've made my life much more difficult, in terms of choosing a winner!

The competition is tough :D... I suppose there have been more entries to previous contests, but this one has very, very good stuff indeed. Like some, I felt a bit guilty making fun of a Cassat work - I like her art :).

*g*
I'm glad you like what I did... But me, I keep wondering how you and jen_deben can have such control over that stupid mouse and draw so meticulously! You both have a wonderful sense of colour to. I feel like I'm just messing around a bit :D...

This is too funny! It took me a moment, but then I got it, and LOL!

Okay, I finally got my act (and my bravery) together. Not the most original of concepts, but here is Snape's first bath, off Cassatt's The bath.

*winces and apologized to Cassatt*

The other entries are amazing!

Oh, but this is lovely. You've even kept the Japanese tone of the original painting, in Eileen's robes, especially. Poor Severus... a tub bath. No wonder he prefers to remain greasy.

Thanks! I don't know how I will pick a winner out of all these great entries!

Hi! I love this contest! Here's my entry anonymous October 28 2006, 03:21:55 UTC
My sister is mary-j-59, and she told me about this contest yesterday. I hope it's ok for me to enter.

My entry is called "Children playing with kneazle." It depicts baby Severus on his mom's lap, playing with a kneazle, held by his cousin Arabella. (Well, I suppose they could be cousins!) It's based on Cassatt's "Children playing with a cat"

Here's the original:

This is a wonderful painting, and very funny! The kitty's face is fabulous -- it certainly looks skeptical about that potion -- almost as much as little Sevvy looks determined! Your faces are amazing.

Thanks for entering!

I will have to learn how you posted that image. The link works fine.

I hope you enter our next contest(s). Keep an eye on snapeartcontest for more challenges.

Oh, thanks so much!

I really think the drawing is kind of awful -- I don't know how other people managed such beautiful work with this artpad thing! ( you wouldn't believe I can actually draw in real life, would you?)
But I do think it's funny, and I'm glad you agree :)

As to how I posted the image, I grabbed it with grabber and then went to imageshack and had them host it. I'm not sure if you're a windows person. I have to admit I don't know how you grab things in windows (it's super easy on a mac).

Well, I had fun trying this contest -- & maybe I will try another in future.

I'm glad Mary told me about your community -- you're obviously a very nice and talented group of people.

Have a good weekend, and happy halloween!

~Deirdre
